I'm planning a trip to PA this summer and am having a difficult time finding campgrounds that are Big Rig friendly. Does anyone have recommendations? I'm planning to visit Pittsburgh, Johnstown, State College and Pottsville.

Hi, according to the book, "Big Rigs, Best Bets", the Jonestown KOA has several sites. # 57 is over 100'. Sites #69, 70 & 71 are in the 80 - 85' range and #63 is 70'. If you can live with 30 amp service, #46, 49 & 56 are 75' long, 53 & 55 are about 85 - 90' long.

The nearest big rig friendly site I can find to Pottsville is at Pine Grove. Twin Grove Resort and KOA. Sites R44, R50, R56, R62, R68 & R75 listed as being in the 90' range.

The nearest I can find to State College is in a town called Woodland. Woodland Campground. Sites 25, 27, 28, 29 & 30 LL 90'+

As for the Pittsburgh area; nearest big rig friendly location is in Somerset. Pioneer Park campground. Sites 385 - 390 all approx 90' long.

I haven't been anywhere near these sites, just going form the listing in the book.

    Good luck.

We stop at the Jonestown, PA KOA every January on our trek south to warmer weather. I've seen a number of 40'-45' Class A's there and some pretty big HDT drawn 5'vers that didn't appear to be overly crowded into their sites. Getting around on the park roads can be a little snug in places, but doable.

Jonestown isnt Johnstown. There are several private campgrounds in Somerset county which is close to Johnstown. Like Pioneer park.
