We retired and started full-timing at age 55. We finally hung up the keys last year, at age 68.

One piece of advice I can offer from our experience is to start out with the least expensive rig you can tolerate, which is what we did. We bought a five-year-old truck and fifth wheel. That first year told us whether we wanted to continue on the road and whether a fiver was for us. (You take a real financial beating when you buy a new rig and later sell it.)

Our story is similar to others I have heard: The first few years we traveled frequently, stopping only for a few days or less in each location. After seven years, we decided where we wanted to spend our summers and winters, and we simply "commuted" between those locations (the Oregon coast and Arizona/Mexico).

Remember, full-timing is not an irrevocable decision. You can quit any time.

Hope that helps, and good luck.
