We are planning a trip East to north part of the State of New York and then travel down to the Southern states and then home to California. I am concerned about weather back East with tornados, hurricanes, heat, cold, etc? Just what time of year is it best to travel back there?

Tornadoes are very rare in New England. Hurricanes are not common, and you will have plenty of warning.

Fall is the best time, like right now, and especially October. It gets a little chilly at night, need to break out that homemade knit sweater to sit around the campfire. Love waking up to a crisp fall morning with a hot cup of coffee.

It will rarely get down to freezing, and most afternoons you will be taking off long sleeves and wearing short sleeve shirts.

Just be aware of the metro area's of DC, Baltimore,Philadelphia , NY City. Traffic can get real tough. Try planning your travel around weekday morning and evening commuting.

Just one unexpected accident will turn into miles of gridlock...
