Disney's Fort Wilderness is exactly what you would expect from Disney. The campground is pretty, spit-shine clean, and safe. The amenities and activities are excellent, particularly for families with children. Conversely, it's pretty expensive -- especially if you also go to the theme parks! -- and "Disney-fied", which is to say all very carefully plotted out in a conference room somewhere in Lake Buena Vista. That's not necessarily a bad thing, so long as it's in line with your expectations. For us, we had a great time during our visit. We did go to Magic Kingdom one night for the Christmas event, but for the most part we stayed at the campground to enjoy the facilities there. There is quite a bit to do; some of it at a substantial additional cost. One could use the Fort solely as a launching pad to focus on the theme parks, but even as a nearly-standalone family-friendly resort park, it stands out as quite a good one. I ding them a point because the restrictions on campfires at the sites are rather strict, and that's a pretty fundamental part of camping for me, but it's certainly not enough to keep me from planning a return visit. I'm sure we'll have many more to come. We camped at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground in a Travel Trailer.

All sites at Ft Wilderness are small. Everyone knows that but all accept being super crowded as you are at Disney. Some sites are however ridiculously small. Designed in 1971 to accommodate 1965 14ft Scotty rigs we all know getting into the sites can be a challenge. I watched a 40ft fifth wheel take about an hour and a half getting into a 300 loop site in the dark. Great entertainment for me...bad for him. Getting into some sites - like 357 - can however be a significant emotional event. We were assigned to site 357 as we had pets and had requested the outside loop. Sites 357 and 359 are outside loop on a curve to the right as the loop ends to the road. As a result the end of the way too short sites angle toward each other and literally become one...literally!! The trailer in 359 was so close that our neighbor was sitting out one day in the only space he had to sit and he could have put his feet up on our door steps. How fun is that? I like meeting my neighbors, but really, at over $100 a night with tax to be able to hear your neighbor snore thru the night...ridiculous. One last horror story. We got a ticket by the Disney police because my truck had 2 wheels off the pavement so we moved the truck and the golf cart onto pavement. This was so small however that we had to walk sideways to get into the golf cart so we could back it out into the street so that we had space to roll up the canvas sides of the cart. We took it all in stride as we love Disney but at some point Disney has to understand that just because people love your characters they will reach a point where they get disgusted and feel taken advantage of and look for other forms of entertainment. There are a lot of campgrounds out there!

Do not, do not, ever, ever, stay in any preferred loop at the Fort (particularly 300). I will never again stay in any preferred loop. Stand your ground. If you don't like your site don't take no...demand another site even when they say they are completely full...they are always full so they can always say that. We camped at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

A very nice and large campground. Many things to do here. The biggest drawback for me was the site. We were near the end of the 1600 loop. Not much privacy. If we return, I will get a premium site, which has a larger concrete pad and a little more room. We camped at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground in a Motorhome.

Very clean, well kept park. If you are going to spend all your time going to Disney -- or if you have small (pre-tween) children that will spend their days at the pool swimming and doing other activities -- then it may be worth it. Purely as a campground, it's very clean but not particularly great in any way. More expensive sites have more paved area. Less expensive sites have fine gravel to deal with. All have good hookups, reasonable space, and close access to amenities. If you're just using this park as a base camp for accessing all of Orlando, look elsewhere. It's really designed for Disney-goers--or folks who want to pay hundreds of dollars for dining and entertainment on site. (E.g., dinner show was $300 for four people. Horseback riding, $200 for four people. Archery, $190 for four people.) On site dining services are easy (and priced accordingly), but the food is kid stuff: pizza, burgers, etc. and nothing more. Most people tool around in golf carts, though nothing is so far that you need to do that. Need a cart? Better reserve in advance...and, guess what, they are $65/day. We camped at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Lots on site for small kids. For bigger kids and adults, expect to pay a lot to be entertained. Disney is not great at service--they have just learned that when you pay through the nose, you'll be willing to stand on line for a while or wait on hold forever. If you need to make reservations etc. try to do it in person; phone calls were aggravating.

The only reason you would stay here is if you were going to one of the Disney parks. I requested an early check in at noon and got right in. I also asked for a treeless site so the satellite would work which they got me. Get a site away from the main roads or you will hear the buses all the time. My site was in the 600 loop and was good for me. The bus transportation around is busy but you may find yourself waiting 20-30 minutes at every stop. We stayed for 9 nights in the 900 loop. It was wonderful. I am glad we opted to rent the golf cart as it made getting around much easier. The whole vacation was great. No one does it better than Disney. We camped at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground in a Motorhome.

While certainly not inexpensive, the combined value of proximity to entertainment, dining options, size of site and ease of access makes this my families top rated campsite. We purchased Disney gift cards at a 10% discount thru BJ's and used those to pay at checkin which did help save a little. We camped at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

First off, we drove down from Wisconsin and arrived a day early. We called them to see if we could get in a day early. The lady on the phone was awesome and got us in a day early. I question the price as it seemed like we paid way too much for an extra night's stay that didn't even include a ticket to the park. We did arrive after dark and check-in went smooth. They do have security at the gate that checks IDs so that does keep unwanted guests out or at least you would hope it does. When we drove around our loop it looked so festive and welcoming. Backing into the site was a little bit of a challenge in the dark. It was further complicated because the area to back in is tight and that was even worse when the person across from us has his vehicle parked partially in the road. I did manage to get backed in after a couple of tries. The next day I did notice someone in the loop trying to back in, they got so frustrated that they just drove off. Just be aware that backing in can be a challenge and tight at some of the sites. The site itself was level and had a paved pad. Behind the pad was a sand, crushed shell area that we used to grill in (propane grills only since you could not have a fire due to drought). We had great shade at the site and all the hookups worked great. The pool was nice. It had a small water slide. The water level for the entire pool was less than 4 ft so very kid friendly. The bus system was great. They run past our stop every 20 min or less. On the first morning we were not sure exactly what we were doing but the driver gave us great advice that helped us get to Magic Kingdom. We camped at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This is simply the best campground that I have ever seen. It is exceptionally clean and well serviced. A visit to Disney is not complete without taking a day off from the parks and enjoying the amenities of the campground including playgrounds, pools, horses, and live entertainment. While visiting the parks, you can park your vehicle and use Disney transportation to anywhere you want to go. Many sites have been recently enlarged to accommodate big rigs. Most sites are private enough because they have many trees. My favorite loop is 1100 but others are equally good. I have stayed in this campground at least 10 times and 3 of those have been in the past 10 months. I would not consider another campground in the Central Florida area. We camped at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground in a Motorhome.

We absolutely loved this park. The interior roads were easy to navigate. Sites were very clean. There were a few play grounds to choose from for the kids as well as a beach area. The kids loved watching the horses at the stables as well as riding the boats. Internal buses made it easy to get around. Very clean, lots of shade, friendly staff, and secure. Tips for other Campers:

After checking in at drive thru spots, there was an area to pull thru and disconnect/reconnect towed vehicles. When checking out, we went to park motorhome in overflow lot to do one last character dining meal and found the parking lot to be quite full of small trailers taking up large pull thru spots, a couple people parked on the sides of the parking lot making it a tight squeeze to maneuver, we spent a bit longer than we anticipated idling and circling for a space.

This is one of the best parks we have ever seen and it is huge. Obviously it is expensive, there is nothing cheap at Disney. The grounds are really nice with a mix of oaks, pines and cypress trees providing at least partial shade most places. There are some sites more open for better satellite service, but they provide cable TV. When a campsite is vacated the staff cleans it promptly, never seen anything approaching this at another campground. Lots of paved paths for biking and walking as well as campground shuttle buses and buses to the parks. Pretty enjoyable to sit on the campground beach and watch the Magic Kingdom fireworks. We camped at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground in a Motorhome.

I guess the only reason you would stay here is if you were going to one of the Disney parks. Our spot was hard to get into to start with. You receive a lot of cable channels but most are scrambled for some reason. The park is very noisy. The sites were close together in the loop I was in. Oh and the price. Yep! $175/night, but it was very nice. I was fishing from my site. Ice is available at every bathroom. The bathrooms are within a few hundred feet of every site. Trash and recycle are within a few feet of every site. Everything is spotless. There is a Disney employee hosing down the site before you arrive. A note on the price, $175 was actually $10 more than the All-Star resort with a resident discount. Our stay was over spring break and if you want to be at Fort Wilderness over spring break I guess you will have to pay for it. There are only back in sites at Disney World. It's Disney World. If your board, its your fault. Never saw anyone until sun down. Apparently everyone is at Disney, or the pools, during the day. We went to the Hoop-de-doo review the first night.

Expensive? Yes, but worth it! Campsites are clean and constantly maintained, after a camper leaves a cleaning crew comes in. They pick up any debris, rake, hose down the site. I never saw a trashy site. Comfort station is also clean, showers roomy and are very tidy. Loved all the amenities, but the pool is more geared toward younger kids. Camp stores have basic camping supplies and groceries. We rented a golf cart and it was worth every $, not only did it make getting around very convenient but the kids LOVED sitting in it, even when we weren't using it. The restaurants/quick service is all good and we can't wait to go back. A must for any camping/Disney loving family. We camped at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground in a Travel Trailer.
