Great park if you can get one of the sites that has electric. Many of the sites are quite sloped. It was tough to get the camper level. Our site was right across from the bathroom which was convienent. Other than the slope of the sites they are very nice and roomy. Get there early if you want an electric site. We would definitely stay again. We camped at Cumberland Gap National Historic Park / Wilderness Road Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

We arrived in the late evening to this campground, which has very easy access to the highway but it still set back enough not to hear cars unless you are on one of the outer sites. As the previous reviewer mentioned, you need to fill water first, before heading to pick a site. We did have to wait behind another rig at the dump station who was filling water, but we had to dump so no big deal. Another rig pulled in behind us while we were filling.

It is a huge campground though only loops B and C have power. Really enjoyed the fact that the whole campground is very wooded. Decent separation between sites and plenty of room to spread out, as it wasn't too crowded. After picking our site and paying our fees in the self service, the campgound host came by and was super friendly. Bathrooms clean and showers were hot (and free!). We only spent two nights here while visiting the National Historic park, but wished we could have stayed longer. Great campground in a beautiful area. We camped at Cumberland Gap National Historic Park / Wilderness Road Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This is one of the few national park campgrounds with electric and hot showers...sections B and C have 50 amp service....no water or sewer but you can fill your tank with fresh water and their is also a dump station.....park is big rig friendly and most of the sites are level although ours was a challenge....all sites are asphalt and their is alot of shade and sites are somewhat private....the host was very friendly and helpful....the showers were big and plenty of hot water... everything was very clean....this is a very nice national park with a lot of hiking and some biking trails, a lot to do in the area and shopping with restaurants nearby....cell service ATT was fine so we used our hotspots for WiFi and was able to pickup several tv stations with antenna....this campground is first come first serve so no reservations....we will be back again.... We camped at Cumberland Gap National Historic Park / Wilderness Road Campground in a Motorhome.

The park has sites with electricity on loops B and C. The sites are paved and are completely tree covered. No water and no sewer on any of the sites. The ranger station is unmanned. The first thing you do as the signs direct you is to fill your water tank at the dump station which is a strange request since you don't usually take water from this location. However the fresh water is separate from the unpalatable water. The next thing on the list is to look for a site in the B or C loop that is available. Take any site that is open and set up your rig. After you are set up return to the ranger station and fill out the registration card, put your fee in the envelope and deposit it in the metal can. Take the stub and clip it to the post in front of your site. Sites are all on a first come first serve basis. We arrived on a Monday and had a good selection of sites. The weekends are the busy time so come early. We camped on E17 which is in an open grass area and it had electricity. The campground host pointed it out to us. Other than being in open sun light, it was a great spot. No one else was near and we had open sky for satellite reception. I thanked the host for the suggestion. The campground was neat and clean, good paved roads with easy access and good space between sites. This is a great National Park with good hiking trails. Route 25e is the major road to take to get to the park and it is a good four lane highway. The park is worth the trip with some excellent vistas for viewing the surrounding hills. We camped for two days and could have stayed longer. Maximum stay is 14 days. We camped at Cumberland Gap National Historic Park / Wilderness Road Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Visit the visitor center on the other side of the tunnel. View the two excellent movies about the Gap and the travels back in the 1700's. Drive up to Pinnacle Rock for an excellent view of the three states: Kentucky, Virginia and Tennessee.

A great government park. It is a wilderness environment with well spaced sites, fire rings, and tables. RV sites with electricity are paved, tent sites are gravel and no electric. We arrived on a holiday weekend mid-afternoon and there were a number of RV sites to accommodate our 30' trailer. There is access to NP hiking trails direct from the campsite. We camped at Cumberland Gap National Historic Park / Wilderness Road Campground in a Travel Trailer.

The campground is on the other side of the Cumberland Gap from the NP visitor center and is actually in Virginia rather than KY or TN. It's worth the trip, though.

We loved visiting this national site. The rangers at the Visitor Center were very nice and helpful. We enjoyed the film in the center and the history displays. We spent two nights in the campground which was about 25% full in late March. There was only one bathroom functioning at that time but it was clean. The shower nozzles needed repair as they were leaking but the water was warm. Even with these minor flaws, the campground was so peaceful and relaxing. We took a seven mile round trip hike from the campground down the road to catch the Boone Trail to the Wilderness Trail to the Cumberland Gap and then up to Tri-State Peak. Note that several of the attractions like Gap Cave and Hensley Settlement tours were not open for the season while we were there. It still looked like winter as the trees had no leaves. But we really enjoyed essentially having the trails to ourselves. What a treat! Note that there is no water at campsites so come with your fresh water tank full or fill up at the available area when you arrive. We camped at Cumberland Gap National Historic Park / Wilderness Road Campground in a Motorhome.

This campground continues to impress. The site (C17) was a bit un-level. The bathhouse was clean and the showers were clean. The overall campground was spotless! My wife and 2 dogs loved the long walks this place offers. The electric worked well. We do wish they had water and sewer there. The dump station was spotless too. This last say was short but good. The bad is some items such as the showers are showing age. The door locks on the showers are showing age. The campground needs more electric spaces badly! The camp host were OK and seem to make efforts such as cleaning the bathrooms each night. The site we had (B7) was mostly level. The trees provide plenty of shade. We will return. I rate this park against other NPS parks. It has electric and showers, which is rare. The showers are decent. There are only a few level spots, for a large rig. If you are lucky enough to get one, the park is a real pleasure to stay in. Of course, there are some low tree branches. You would think that NPS owns an RV roof repair business also. Here's the formula, for the lame NPS managers: Walk the campground roads and sites. If a tree branch is less than 14' from the ground, cut it off. Job done. This stay in this park was good. The showers were clean but the shower heads needed replacing. The sheer number of sinks is too few. The sites were as good as normal. The picnic tables are in good shape. The electric on our site was working well. My wife and I noted a few mice scurrying around. Come to think of it, we also noticed a few chipmunks and lots of squirrels too. We did notice a large rattlesnake near the campground. The lack of playground equipment and the lack of a pool make this campground more of an adult campground. I can also say I seen no adult beverages being consumed while we were there. Lastly, the dump station worked well. We camped at Cumberland Gap National Historic Park / Wilderness Road Campground in a Motorhome.

Beautiful park in the fall and good hiking trails. Chose no-hookup site in loop D, not level and poor cellular but later moved to an electric site in loop B which also had pretty good Verizon and was level. This stay was as good as the others. Still the same things jump out such as clean bathrooms and showers. The sites are well taken care of. The overall campground was very clean. Safety is still very good. The staff here even takes the time to cut back a few trees. I saw several trees that had been taken down due to being dead or just in the way. The lack of certain things such as playgrounds, pool, and other such items are of no concern to us. We camped at Cumberland Gap National Historic Park / Wilderness Road Campground in a Motorhome.

Great place with a campground to boot. The site B3 was mostly level and offered good shade. The fire pit was clean and the grass was mowed. Overall, the place was in wonderful shape. The bathhouses were clean. The staff or hosts were nice. We will be returning soon. We camped at Cumberland Gap National Historic Park / Wilderness Road Campground in a Motorhome.

Another good stay here! This campground rocks! We stayed here for a week and wanted to stay for 4 weeks. The sites are mostly level and the bathhouses are very clean. Safety rates very high as we seen park rangers several times during our stay. This campground had 3 hosts. Plus, this campground has group camping areas. There was a huge group here and the park facilities served them and us well. We will return to the campground.
