Latitide And Longitude -, Conversion Options

OK, I have a problem and since I am not an expert, I am asking this forum for help.
I have a Gaming GPS which quotes as an example 28.52.201N and 082.46.982W
HOWEVER, I found around co-ordinates quoted as 28.54.99W and 82.52.29W.
The co-ordinates are irrelevant but I wonder how to change one system into the other or vice versa.
One set of quotation is all the way with TWO(2) digits and the other with 2 and 3 digits.
I wonder if there is a way to change one system into the other and vice versa.

Hi John Blue, thanks for your answer but you forgot that I said I am stupid and I need elementary explanations.

I give you the reasons for requiring accuracy in the translation, I am a fisherman spending my winter months in Florida and we exchange co-ordinate among fishermen regarding good fishing points. (a wrong interpretation may take me to Mexico instead og around the corner)
My GPS is programmed to input the co-ordinates as an example 28.52.201 N and 082.46.982 W but when I get co-ordinates I.e. 28.54.99 N and 82.52.29 W, cannot be added to my GPS system.
My question to you, if you have a formula to convert is, how do I input in my GPS the co-ordinations that are expressed in a different format.

Galli,

The GPS coordinate converter works for me. Try this go into your GPS and change it to read degrees. All GPS systems should be able to do this. Now it is less trouble to read and will look like this 28.675453 -104.675423. If I input your reading I get a output of 28.54 -82.52 degrees. See if that will work. If so have other people sent you the information in degrees format. We use only degrees system on this website and you can get it down to a couple feet on a map.
