Hi Pneal,
Fort DeSoto has great beaches, but you need to bike or drive there from the campground. It is not practical to lug your beach stuff for 1200 yards, the distance from the campground to the nearest beach. You can do a Google Maps search using (Fort De Soto, Tierre Verde, FL) without the brackets and you will see the area. The campground is on Mullet key and the nearest beach is the one where Pinallas Bayway ends. The best beach is North Beach, quite a distance away. When you use their reservation system they have quite truthful photos of each site. The whole park is as beautiful as everybody says and is well worth it if you can live with the limited hook-ups. I have some photos on my website,
http://web.mac.com/wolfgang.prigge1/Site_3...es/Florida.html , the pictures 880 to 996. The quality of the photos is not the best, they were taken with a video camera, but you can get a good idea.
