Full Version: Best Ky Campground Close To Lake?
RV Park Reviews Campground Discussion Forum > RV Park and Campground Discussions > General Chat
Hi, I'm new to the site. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good campground in Kentucky where the campsites are close to a lake, preferably a lake where it's easy to fish from shore. I have two small children and would love to get them started on a love of camping and fishing like I have. Thanks for your help! D~
Cave Run Lake, Salt Lick, KY (near Morehead) has 2 nice parks. It is part of the Daniel Boone National Forest. We just spent 3 days in the Zilpo campground for a family reunion. The other campground (Twin Knobs) looked just as nice. They are on opposite sides of Cave Run Lake. The swimming beach was very nice. Some of the sites border the lake so I guess you could fish from your site. Only problem is limited electricity. Most sites don't have it. From what I could tell, only the inner circles of the loops have the electricity which means you wouldn't border the lake. There aren't any water or sewage hookups either. Although, there is water available in several locations in each loop. The bathhouses were very clean. The entire park was clean. The sites are a nice size and offer plenty of privacy from your neighbors. Here are links to the DBNF website, Zilpo and Twin Knobs:

I will get a review posted soon.

Heres a website listing alot of campgrounds in Kentucky. This happens to be just for Kentucky but I have the home site for all the states and Canada Here is the website for Kentucky

And here is the main website for all states....

I have used this one and it shows areas by sections of the state and towns so it may help find ones close to you as you only said you were looking in Kentucky. Happy Trails

Look at "Land Between the Lakes" over in west side of state. This place is full of fishing holes and RV sites. Very large park with water on three sides.
I second John's advice. We stayed at Hillmans Ferry a few years back and toured Kenlake and Kentucky Dam Village state parks and they looked to be very nice.

Ditto John and Mastercraft's comments above. Hillmans Ferry was great, and the price is very low, especially with a Golden Age Passport.
