Bulltown Camp COE, Burnsville, West Virginia

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful campground with views of the lake. Several drawbacks: no connectivity, no TV, no cell service. You can pay an extra fee, about $6.50 a day for Internet. The horizontal roads through Loops C and D are the best sites as they tend to be level with full hook ups. Because the sites are situated on tiers, many sites that are lake front still have lovely lake views. The lake front sites are mostly nice, but usually don't have sewer hook ups, at least not in C loop. The sites along the outside edges of the loops looked like you'd have a terrible time getting level, for the most part. They are along a fairly steep grade. E and F loops don't allow pets, so be careful to read all restrictions in choosing a site. Also know that you are a long way from town with curvy, rather bumpy roads to travel to get there. There is a Walmart about 20 minutes away, though. We camped at Bulltown Camp COE in a Motorhome.

Elizabethtown Crossroads Campground, Elizabethtown, Kentucky

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

Our first site was so un-level and the utilities so misplaced and impossible to hook up, we had to go back to the office and ask for another site. The second site was still not level and you had to jump out of the motorhome to reach the ground. The best thing about the campground was pretty trees. The interior roads were somewhat narrow and curvy. We camped at Elizabethtown Crossroads Campground in a Motorhome.

Pacific Shores Motorcoach Resort (Formerly Outdoor Resorts), Newport, Oregon

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $115.00
Overall Rating:

We booked an oceanfront site for a week--and the view was incredible. We could whale-watch from the patio. The beach was just below, but there is a rather steep walk with switchbacks to get to it. Nice wide beach with a little bit of tidal pooling at low tide if you climb up on some of the rocks. You can see Yaquina Head Lighthouse from the front sites. Even if you don't book oceanfront, you can whale watch from many overlooks with benches and tables. The sites are nicely landscaped. We camped at Pacific Shores Motorcoach Resort (Formerly Outdoor Resorts) in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The resort is convenient for exploring the Oregon coast. Visit Cape Perpetua (45 min. drive south), Seal Rock (25 min. south), and Depoe Bay (great whale watching, 5 miles North). Eat at Tidal Raves in Depoe Bay.

Nehalem Bay State Park, Nehalem, Oregon

The beach is wide and just over tall dunes from the campground. The only downside to the park is lack of sewer hook-ups. We camped at Nehalem Bay State Park in a Motorhome.

Fort Stevens State Park, Hammond, Oregon

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Our site was level and we had no trouble parking our 40 ft coach in it. We did see some other sites that weren't as level and a few sites that people couldn't park their units in because of tree placement--so be sure you look not only at your site, but the ones opposite for trees, before you make your reservation. This park has the most beautiful bike trails we have ever seen. The fort is also full of fascinating history. We camped at Fort Stevens State Park in a Motorhome.

Edgewater RV Resort & Motel, Lakeside, Montana

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

Super clean campground, all level sites, and friendly helpful hosts. Highly recommend. We drove our car up to see the west side of Glacier NP one day, about an hour away. Beautiful Flathead Lake is right across the street. My dog enjoyed the little dog run--lots of great smells to sniff. We camped at Edgewater RV Resort & Motel in a Motorhome.

St. Mary / East Glacier KOA, St Mary, Montana

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We reserved a deluxe patio site. It was not at all level--and almost impossible to fit our 40 ft motorhome with tow in the site. It was sleeting with 70 mph wind gusts, so we weren't happy about all the extra effort trying to set up. Eventually we had to move to another site. The regular less expensive sites were longer than the deluxe. Fortunately, the campground staff was able to accommodate the change. The wind nearly tore the door off RV and car ever time you opened it. Trash was blowing everywhere. In fairness to the campground, not much they could do about the wind, but we would not return. We camped at St. Mary / East Glacier KOA in a Motorhome.

Casper KOA, Bar Nunn, Wyoming

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

We arrived at 1:30 but no human was there to check us in. We found info inside the office about where to park. That would be bad enough but the place is an ugly gravel parking lot. No shade or landscaping. There are cable boxes but no cable available. Unfortunately, we couldn't get in any other campground in the area, so we were stuck here. On the plus side, 50 amp electric. We didn't hook anything else up because this was an overnight stay on our way to Grand Teton NP. Awfully expensive for what you get. Worst KOA we've seen. We camped at Casper KOA in a Motorhome.

Big Pine Campground, Custer, South Dakota

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

I was scared when I saw how hilly the campground was but have no fear--the sites are level. And they provide guidance into your campsite to avoid hitting the pines, which smell wonderful. The owners are amiable and helpful in every way. The campground is convenient to everything you want to see in the region. We camped at Big Pine Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

See Crazy Horse (The video is so touching!), Rushmore, Wind Cave, Jewel Cave, and Custer State Park. Saw bison, prairie dogs, pronghorn, longhorn steer, deer. Kayaked Sylvan Lake. It's all wonderful! But don't take a big RV over the roads like Needles or Iron Mountain into Custer State Park. Take your car and go slowly.

Badlands / White River KOA, Interior, South Dakota

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

BEWARE: GPS will not take you to this park--although if you use your phone GPS it might work. The problem with finding the park is the sign that tells you which KOA it is can't be read easily from the road. We couldn't see the "badlands" or "white river" because they are written in black steel or something above the KOA Holiday sign. We didn't think it was our KOA. That said, the park itself is decent. Really nice dog park inside. Sites are level with gravel. But the pull-throughs are not necessarily long enough for your vehicle and tow. Ours wasn't. The website info wasn't accurate. Only the sites with fancy patios would have held our 40 ft with tow. We had to park nearby. The campground workers are extremely nice and helpful. One other warning: we started to walk the dog near tent sites along the side of the property the first night we got there and a HUGE rattlesnake was lying in the grass. BE careful! We camped at Badlands / White River KOA in a Motorhome.

Persimmon Hill (Enid Lake) COE, Enid, Mississippi

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

This park is hard for us to rate. The park itself is lovely. Administration while we were there was weak. Cars were parked in our site when we arrived. The rangers did come and direct us to another site, but it was a bit disappointing not to have a lake view when we had reserved our site many months ahead. And even though a ranger told us where to change our site to, another ranger came along the next day and tried to charge us $40 more. They said they couldnl't go online and change the site we were assigned--and neither could we because the website prevents changes that close to arrival. We camped at Persimmon Hill (Enid Lake) COE in a Motorhome.

Rock Port / RiversEdge Campground , Rock Port, Missouri

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

Large pull-through sites and easy access from the Interstate make this campground a good stop-over place. We stayed two nights to catch our breath on the long haul to western national parks. The setting was peaceful with a cornfield adjoining the property. Lots of grassy areas and a playground if you have kids. If there's a river, we didn't find it! We camped at Rock Port / RiversEdge Campground in a Motorhome.

Riverside RV Resort, Robertsdale, Alabama

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

This was a one-night stop for us. The park is pleasant with large, level pull thrus available. Concrete pads with full hook-ups. No picnic table on your site but there is a pavilion with tables, chairs, and big TV right by the river. Easy access from Interstate but our GPS tried to take us on down the road past the park. It's right at the exit from Interstate. We camped at Riverside RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Fort Pickens Campground, Pensacola, Florida

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This park turned out to be a bad choice for us in a 40-ft motorcoach. Site 16A was plenty long enough but we couldn't get into it because of trees on 3 of the 4 corners next to the road. We scratched the coach. Then the park relocated us for one night to site 30. It was okay (except the electrical unit get blowing out) but we could only have it for one night. They tried to place us in site 31 the next two nights, but although the website said the site would hold a 43 foot coach, it left the front end of the coach right at the edge of the road. That might have been okay--but it was on a corner and other people couldn't make the turn without backing up a few times. We were afraid of being hit, so we left the park after one day. The interior roads are too narrow, especially the corners for large units. That said, the beach is gorgeous. We watched dolphins frolic on our beach walk. We camped at Fort Pickens Campground in a Motorhome.

Stagecoach RV Park, St Augustine, Florida

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Pull-through sites were big enough for 40 ft coach with a tow, though we did detach so we could get out and about in the area. The sites are spacious with gravel surface. Nice dog park, but we didn't use it. Interior roads are easy to navigate. We camped at Stagecoach RV Park in a Motorhome.

Close to St. Augustine, World of Golf, and Washington Oaks State Park and Gardens. It rained or we would have kayaked on Pellicer Creek. We enjoyed seeing Washington Oaks State Park with its lovely gardens and pleasant walking trail, part of which abuts the Matanzas River.
