Grand Oaks Resort & Museum, Lady Lake, Florida

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We stay here a few times a year, and love this quiet park. Set up to support equine & dog events, therefore lots of open space for horses and dogs. They also support personal events as well (weddings, reunions etc) The park is located a distance off I-75, and the back roads are narrow to the RV entrance. We had no issues with a 40' motor home and tow, just took it slow around corners. You can now reserve on their website, see what is available for the dates and chose your site. When you arrive at park, you can go directly to your site as there is no office or formal check in process. Once settled, they will come by with a check in packet with information. Our site pad was concrete, level, full 50 amp hook up with patio and picnic table. The remainder of the site is asphalt/gravel. Good green space between sites. Easy in and out for big rigs. There is no shade on the sites. They don't have cable, but because our site was open, we had great satellite. Most sites are no shade, open to sky, there are a few back in that are close to trees. They added a pool and spa. As stated above the park is designed for events, therefore no other activities. There is a pool table and TV in the lodge. Grounds are clean! They were working on grounds as we arrived a few weeks after Hurricane Irma. Staff is very friendly and helpful. 2 runs, one each for large and small dogs. Also lots of green area to walk dogs. The laundry room is small, but efficient. There is a museum and cafe on property. The cafe has a full service bar. We ate at the cafe this visit, good food. There is also a fishing pond. If you like quiet, no activities except events, would highly recommend if staying in the area more then a night! We camped at Grand Oaks Resort & Museum in a Motorhome.

Dunedin RV Resort & The Blue Moon Inn, Dunedin, Florida

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $58.00
Overall Rating:

We have stayed at Dunedin park multiple times the last 3 years. Arrived right after Hurricane Irma, and the park was empty and quiet. Park is located about 30 minutes off major highway but good roads in. Internal roads good, good size check in, and check in was easy. Our site was pull thru, level, concrete, full 50 amp hook up with patio and picnic table. Our site just fit the 40' Rig plus tow. The sites up front are tight to get into, therefore easier to unhook tow in check in area before proceeding to site. There is additional parking located nearby. Some sites are open, other have tress that drop acorns or leaves certain times of year. Park maintenance was working hard to clear storm debris. WiFi was out due to the hurricane, and was not available even after two weeks. Park doesn't have cable. We were on an end site, therefore able to get satellite. There is a small dog park, good size pool, large club house, plenty of activities. This trip I found a borrowing library in the main club house. The bathrooms are clean as are the good size laundry rooms. However, the bathrooms and laundry rooms are starting to show age. Bring bug spray as the park is surrounded by wetlands. We camped at Dunedin RV Resort & The Blue Moon Inn in a Motorhome.

Lake City RV Resort (formerly Oaks "N" Pines), Lake City, Florida

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

Right off I-10, approximately 6 miles East of I-75. Easy on & off I-10, roads in are fine. Check in was easy, manager was friendly and helpful. Internal roads are gravel, but fine. Our site was long, pull thru, grass, full hook up, open to the sky with a small patio and picnic table. Our site's picnic table was broken. The sites are narrow, center is level, however the edges are higher as we had trouble extending our steps without hitting our patio or grass. Our right slide was slightly hanging over the next site's patio. We got great satellite reception, and wifi was fine.

This is an old Florida park that has had some recent upgrades. Laundry room was in a separate little house in the middle of the park. Laundry room has 4 washers & dryers. Newer, and efficient. Wash 1.50, dry 1.00, very clean!

We came in right after Hurricane Irma, and the internal roads were cleared of debris. The maintenance crew was out the two days we were there taking care of the trees, debris as well as cutting the grass. Conveniently placed trashcans & dog waste stations located around the park. They empty them every day. The grounds are maintained.

There is two small ponds with a warning on alligators (that's a given in Florida). A small fenced dog park, as well as green areas to walk dogs. Small, quint, very clean clubhouse with pool table, coffee station, book library. There is also a picnic pavilion and horseshoes.

It's a good park, located close to major highways, just needs to be updated as far as making some sites wider for today's big rigs. Our RV neighbors were quiet. There is an area of full timers, but they appear to maintain their sites. The park is along one side of I-10, therefore heavy traffic noise. The AC & fans buffer the noise but you can hear it, but didn't bother us. We camped at Lake City RV Resort (formerly Oaks "N" Pines) in a Motorhome.

Jones RV Park, Norcross, Georgia

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Very basic park, mainly full time residents. Park located close to i-85, few miles from i-285 and close to Atlanta. Located in a commercial area with some housing nearby. Called in before arriving and we were told to just pick a transient site as we were arriving after the office closed. Staff answering phone was friendly. We followed GPS and it took us to the park. Stopped at office, picked up park map. No other instructions. Followed yellow arrows to transient area. We drove past all the sites, and only one was open, so we came around again, and took that site. Our site was dirt/sand base, narrow long pull thru, full hook up. There was a tree next to us, but were able to get satellite. The site next to us had a reserved cone, and the RVer came in right after us. He told us they reserved it for him. There were no other sites open, and we watched an RV come in later, and leave because there wasn't any open sites. We only noticed one other overnighter, as the rest of the limited stay spots seem to be full timers. If you call, tell them to assign you a site to reserve. If we came a little later, we would have not been able to stay. There are two electric hook up sites out front the office, but those are on a slight hill and have a sign for registration. Sites are close together, the other side of our site was packed with cars. Little green space to walk dogs. We were there on a weeknight, therefore quiet evening. Noise starts around 6 in the morning when people are leaving for work. Basic rate is $35.00, put payment in envelope, drop in rent slot at office. This worked for a quick overnight stay close to Atlanta highways but not for extended stay. We camped at Jones RV Park in a Motorhome.

Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground, Swannanoa, North Carolina

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $51.00
Overall Rating:

Located about a mile off I-40. Narrow roads to RV park. Office on hill, won't be able to unhook. Check in easy, staff very friendly and helpful. Our site was at top of park on side of mountain. It's a steep climb to the top, however, our 40 ft plus tow had no issues. We were escorted, which made the climb easier to navigate. Our site was gravel, pull thru, full hook up, close to level with picnic table & fire ring. Site was long enough to fit Rig and tow.

We were in an open area, although surrounded by trees, we were able to get satellite. They have cable too. WiFi worked great. Unfortunately, we were here when Hurricane Irma decided to come thru, but we still had a great view.

Best maintained park we have ever stayed at! Office with small store, laundry room and exercise room located in front of park. There are bathrooms & laundry room located at top of park too. There is a gate at front of park, and you are given a code. Only one dumpster located at front by office. Small dog areas, some grass but didn't walk dogs because of storm, so there could be additional areas around park. This is a beautiful park and we will be back again! We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Motorhome.

Natural Bridge / Lexington KOA, Natural Bridge, Virginia

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Right off a I-81 exit. Park entrance is straight across exit at stop sign. Hilly coming into campground but didn't scrap tow bar. Office is further up driveway on right, check in was easy, staff very friendly. Road down to site was narrow but no issues. We were escorted to our site. Our site was down in the open area, gravel, wide, full hook up, but had to level the Rig. Site had picnic table, fire ring and some grass. Bottom section is mostly gravel & open, however surrounded by trees, and we were unable to get satellite. Cable worked fine. Older campground but appears they are working on updating some sites. They maintain the property however some of the gravel roads have erosion due to rain. Good laundry room - wash - 1.75, dryers are very efficient, clothes were dry in 20 minutes. Surrounded by a farm, quiet, couldn't hear road noise. Play ground, pool and small store. Small dog park, dirt, no grass. However, there are plenty of roads and some grassy areas out front to walk dogs. Park has multiple hills, and there are tiered sites with decks that appear nice. However, we have a 40 ft plus tow, and would not be able to maneuver to exit those sites. We stayed one night as we were passing thru. We camped at Natural Bridge / Lexington KOA in a Motorhome.

Roamers' Retreat Campground, Kinzers, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

Small park located off Route 30 about 10 miles East from downtown Lancaster. Check in was easy, and staff very friendly. Site was pull thru, gravel, 30 amp, but Rig needed to be leveled. Water pressure was ok. Sites are close together, some shady some out in the open. We had an open site, however couldn't get satellite. Basic cable was good. Fire ring & picnic table. Small dog park, but green space to walk dogs. Roads in are gravel, enough room to maneuver, and they provide directions for best route to site. Next to an Amish farm on one side and a museum on the other, beautiful views of farmland. Quiet basic park, small playground, small store and no pool. Has mainly seasonal & full time residents, and therefore some trailers/RV need upkeep. They appear to be adding new trailers to be used as rental cabins. Good for an overnight stay. Close to Lancaster, and attractions. We camped at Roamers' Retreat Campground in a Motorhome.

Lake George RV Park, Lake George, New York

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $85.00
Overall Rating:

Huge park located about a mile off I-87, 3 miles from Lake George Village. We arrived mid week, and no one was in the guard shack. We proceeded to the office for check in. They do have someone in the guard shack for the weekends that will direct you. Check in was efficient. Staff very friendly. The park is heavily wooded. The roads are ok for big rigs, paved, just wide enough, some tight turns and hilly roads on the upper portion. We bottomed out on a steep dip when getting to our site. Our site was extra long and wide. Pull thru, full hook up, fire ring, picnic table, heavily wooded therefore no satellite but they have good cable. The site was dirt, and it rained, which caused a mess. Water pressure was good. Beautiful, good size dog park. Big area for large dogs, which we have, it was great to let them run and play with other dogs. Great green space to walk dogs around park. Internal trails that take you by two ponds and around the park. They have laundromats, didn't use them, but checked them out. Modern machines, wash $2.00. dry .25 for 10 minutes. Wi-Fi was good until Friday when more people come in, then spotty. Multiple pools, including an indoor pool. There are arcades, playgrounds, tennis/pickleball courts as well as additional activities for kids & adults. There is a café, and the office has a good size store. There is also a trolley service to Lake George Village, but after labor day, the trolley didn't run, and the café wasn't open. We arrived after Labor Day, it was quiet until the weekend, then the park became noisy. This park would have received a higher rating if the site wasn't all dirt. Close to outlets, restaurants and six flags park. We camped at Lake George RV Park in a Motorhome.

Arrowhead Marina & RV Park, Schenectady, New York

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

Mile off I-890 and close to I-90. On Van Buren Lane, turn immediate right after railroad tracks and follow RV park signs. GPS has you going straight and into a neighborhood. The beautiful park is along the Mohawk River. We called before they opened for the season to reserve a site for a week. Because they were already booked, we were assigned a partial hook up site. We were assured that if there was a cancelation we would be reserved for a full hook up site. When we arrived, we had a wonderful surprise. As promised, we only had a partial hook up the first night , the next day we were able to move to a full hook up. They gave us one of the best sites in the park as we were front row on the river. The owner took great care of us! The partial hook up didn't have sewer, but was pull thru, close to level and heavily wooded. Our river side site was back in, gravel, close to level. We couldn't get satellite at either site, but they have cable. It worked good. There is internet connection, although didn't stay connected, therefore wasn't very good. We had a picnic table, fire ring and concrete patio. There is grass area between sites. Water pressure was ok. Both sites were long enough to fit rig and tow. There is additional parking in the park. Site payment is cash or check. There is a small laundry room, 3 washers and 4 dryers, which was adequate. There is a nice size dog park and plenty of green space to walk dogs. And, yes, there are multiple train tracks in the area, therefore multiple trains, but not running all day and it's not too loud to be a bother. There is a paved trail close enough to walk and bike. The park is clean and well maintained. This park is quiet, no kid activities except the river. We enjoyed the quietness and will stay again at this park. We camped at Arrowhead Marina & RV Park in a Motorhome.

Herkimer Diamond KOA, Herkimer, New York

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $77.00
Overall Rating:

Approx. 9 miles off I-90, we used directions from their KOA web site, and they ask you to call them if using GPS. Our site was pull thru, gravel and not level. The gravel pad was narrow, and there was a drop off to one side. Not deep but enough to bring our tires off ground when leveling. Site was long, so 40' rig and tow fit with plenty of room. Unfortunately the previous campers left trash on the ground and in the fire ring. The park needs to do better policing the campsites after a weekend. Plus, campers need to clean their area before they leave. I cleaned out the fire ring for the next campers. Dumpsters were overflowing with trash even in mid-week. The weekends are busy but the dumpsters should have been emptied before mid week. Even though there are mature trees on property, we were able to get satellite. Some sites are more shaded then others. They have some unique cabins on property. Laundry room is adequate however costly @ $1.50 each for wash & dry. The dryers were not efficient as I had to hang dry my towels and other items even after 45 minutes. There is a small dog park, and green space to walk dogs. The park is located along the West Canada creek and there are a few kid activities. They also have a restaurant across the street, but it wasn't open when we camped. Also, they have a diamond mine that you can pay to hunt for your own gems. We only stayed one night, therefore didn't get a chance to try it out. The nightly rate is high for the value. We camped at Herkimer Diamond KOA in a Motorhome.

Niagara Falls KOA, Niagara Falls, Ontario

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $99.00
Overall Rating:

Located about 2 miles off the QEW in a commercial area. Roads in are narrow, and we just fit in our lane. Wide entrance into narrow one lane gate at check in. Check in was fast, and the staff suggested we use our KOA points for a discount, no other KOA suggested this discount. Our site was a long pull thru, full hook up, gravel and close to level. Fire pit in front of site. Pull thru sites have grass between but the next site electric and water is in the middle of the grass area. We put out our carpet with chairs and picnic table, it was against our neighbor's electric. Big rigs can fit into park, however entrance and exit park roads can be tight, but no issues, we just took it slow. Water pressure was OK. The park does have mature trees, but we were able to get satellite at our site. Code for Wi-Fi, but it seemed to work well. There is no cable. Although the park is older, it appears to be well maintained. There are two dog parks, one located in the middle of the activity area, the other back in the corner by a tent area. The staff stopped by our site and advised us to lock up bikes. We always lock them up when not in use, but appears they have had issues in the area. Park has plenty of kid activities but not overly noisy. We thought the nightly price was high for the value, however you are only 3 miles away from the Falls, and other attractions. We camped at Niagara Falls KOA in a Motorhome.

Port Huron KOA, Kimball, Michigan

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

Close to 69, good roads in to large RV park. We arrived on a Friday afternoon, stopped at gate and were given instructions to our site. First KOA where we weren't escorted to site. We checked in after we set up, and it was very busy but efficient. Our site was a deluxe pull thru, concrete, long enough to fit our 40' rig and tow without unhooking. We still had to level front and sides. Other sites are grass/gravel. Water pressure was fine. Besides a laundry room by the office, there is a small laundry room on Deadwood row, 1.00 wash and 1.00 dry. Older machines, but they worked fine. Open internet, but didn't work well, constantly timing out quickly. We were able to get satellite with no issues at our site but there are mature trees in the park. Dog park with two sides located by the street hockey field. Never seen a KOA with these many activities for kids - too many to list. We were told that summer & weekends are booked with local families. It was close to full. It's definitely been created for families with kids. It was noisy, and it continued late into the evening with plenty of activity outside. The rig AC helped buffer the sound. There is also distant road and train noise. We were just passing thru, therefore only staying one night. Good for families, too much activity for us. We camped at Port Huron KOA in a Motorhome.

Mackinaw City Campground, Mackinaw City, Michigan

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $53.00
Overall Rating:

Located approx.. 3 miles off I-75, 2 miles from downtown Mackinaw City, good roads and park well marked with signs. Check in is at the front, and they provide detail instructions as to how to get to your site. This campground has well over 600 sites, which include tent sites, cabins and partial or full RV hook ups. Our site was full hook up, located in the middle of the park. Our site was back in, dirt/grass, and had to level as it dropped off to one side. We had a heavy rain while at park and we went off level due to the wet ground. Sites in the middle have more space than those by the water. Our site also had a fire pit & weathered picnic table. Electric & water located in rear of site, sewer located in the middle. Good roads to walk and bike but be careful when driving as there were kids that would just pop out from side roads. There is a store, pool, bike rentals & you can ride on a fire truck. Trail located across the street that leads into Mackinaw City, about 2 miles. Dog park located at a distance by store. It was the end of the season, park was not full, and plenty of green space to walk dogs. Located on Lake Huron, has private beaches and you can see the Mackinac bridge. There is a cost for Wi-Fi service which was good but did cut out at times. We were able to get satellite at this site but with these mature trees, not sure all can. The park quiet time starts at 10 pm. and provides number to call for excess noise. Park doesn't have laundry. We camped at Mackinaw City Campground in a Motorhome.

Located approx. 3 miles off I-80 with good roads. Heavily wooded RV park, heavily wooded sites but clean and well maintained. Met at gate, and escorted to site. Our site was pull thru, gravel/grass, close to level. Most sites have trees on both sides, however we were located on site 36, and able to get limited satellite. Our 40' rig plus tow just fit on the site without unhooking. Wifi was good. There is a camp store, pool, two dog parks and plenty of kids activities. Laundry room is behind office with older machines but good. We were here during the week, so very quiet. Located in a business park area, and a few restaurants located within walking distance. There is a train nearby and can be heard at park. Located close to South Bend, Elkhart and the Michigan border. Assume that is why it's a bit pricey. We stayed one night. We camped at South Bend / Elkhart North KOA in a Motorhome.

Des Moines West KOA, Adel, Iowa

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $51.00
Overall Rating:

Second time staying at this park. Located mile and half off I-80. Good roads in, and easy access to park. They escorted us to our site. Site was a pull thru, gravel, able to level and long enough to fit rig and tow. Sites have picnic table and fire ring, with grass area in-between. Plenty of space to put out slides and awnings. Most sites are open to the sky, some have trees. We had satellite reception and the free Wi-Fi worked good during the day, slower at night. Grass dog park with two fenced in areas. Owners and Staff are friendly and helpful. More permanent residents then before and some sites were not maintained. They have a well stocked store. There are no stores located off the exit, but you can get pizza and wings at the KOA store, delivered to your site. There is a nice lake, pool and plenty of activities for kids. We were here on a Saturday, very busy but quieted down by 9. Far enough off highway as not to hear traffic. We camped at Des Moines West KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We took a short drive to Adel where we hiked on the Raccoon River. Great trail, paved, wooded old railroad grade with bridges and trestle. Very cool!!
