Normandy Farms, Foxboro, Massachusetts

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $100.00
Overall Rating:

This place is IMMACULATE. And everything works. Nothing seems out of place or out of service. We were passing through and planned one night, but we ended up staying a second night and booking a week for next year. There were lots of activities for kids and adults. The staff were very engaging and all seem to like working there. The dog park is amazing and well maintained. There were too many things to do to include everything in the review. Next year I am going to learn to play Frisbee Golf. One thing I would change is adding time for adult swimming - at least at the indoor pool and hot tub. Currently it is from 8-9 PM and then virtually everything shuts down. It would be nice if they added another hour to 10 PM or something like 8:30 to 10 PM.

Book early. Reservations are difficult to get. We camped at Normandy Farms in a Motorhome.

Smuggler's Den Campground, Southwest Harbor, Maine

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $68.00
Overall Rating:

The main (perhaps only) draw to this campground is that it is near Acadia. That said, it isn't bad - just nothing to write home about. Entry and exit was easy and the concrete pad was level . The staff was nice and the park was fairly well maintained. There were lots of garbage cans near the office and some were overflowing. You couldn't tell that until you lifted the wood lid. The pool was heavily used by kids and they seem to like it. There is no off-leash area and they don't want dogs in the office. One complaint is that they were a bit paranoid about leaving dogs in the camper. Sometimes, you want to leave a dog in a safe RV while going out to dinner and such. They admit that the internet is unreliable but they claim to be working on it. It isn't clear that they actually have a plan to improve it. Verizon cell phone access is terrible. There is no data and phone calls cannot be counted upon. Naturally, this isn't the campground's fault, but worth noting. You could always skype when the internet was working. We camped at Smuggler's Den Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

There is a grocery store about a half mile away. An easy walk. The shuttle service is fairly frequent to Bar Harbor and from there you can get a shuttle to Acadia. The shuttles allow dogs as well. However, the shuttles fill up at the end of the day and you may have difficulty getting back. Without cell service in most of Acadia, you can't even count on an Uber or Lyft to get you back.

Mount Pleasant / Charleston KOA, Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $57.00
Overall Rating:

We chose this site to see the total eclipse of 2017. This is by far the best campground we have ever visited for a lot of reasons. They don't just have a "lake". They have a very large, very beautiful lake for boating and fishing. They have an amazing nature trail. It is quite different in that the path is very well marked and you can bike or walk through it. All of the facilities are immaculate and extremely well maintained. It seems like they clean the showers and toilets every few minutes. The pool is small, but hasn't been crowded in spite of them being totally booked up for the eclipse. Finally, the staff were absolutely the best. We had a problem with our motorhome and had to move into a cabin for the last night. The cabins are extremely comfortable and well furnished. I've stayed in less comfortable Hyatt Regency hotels. We camped at Mount Pleasant / Charleston KOA in a Motorhome.

Delaware Water Gap / Pocono Mountain KOA, East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

The office was perpetually busy, so it was difficult to ask for help. However, I did ask about good places to hike and was advised to get a brochure somewhere because she wasn't sure. Fortunately, there are lots of online resources, but the staff isn't very helpful in that area. There isn't much shade near the RV sites. We camped at Delaware Water Gap / Pocono Mountain KOA in a Motorhome.
