Mount Rushmore KOA, Hill City, South Dakota

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $86.00
Overall Rating:

This park was beautiful. We upgraded to the more expensive site so we could have more room between campers and access to the gas grill on site. We paid about 20$ more a night than the lodge was charging and all in all I am not sure it was worth the upgrade. The pad itself was gravel but these sites did have a concrete patio. The WIFI was almost non existent so if that's important to u don't stay here. We didn't get service until about 10 minutes away. That being said there is a restaurant on site with ok food, pizza and ice cream but that was shut down for repairs and the coffee shop was quaint with gas fire around the outside tables. The store seemed well stocked but the firewood was kind of high ($). The campers were all mostly friendly, some not so much but the views were beautiful and the grounds were kept well with pretty green grass. They had places for kids to play and the place seemed to be mostly efficient. However, when we were ready to leave we were completely out of LP gas and had to wait 45 minutes for someone from service to come help us get that. We had a 7 or more hour drive ahead of us that first day home and 45 minutes really cuts into that. We camped at Mount Rushmore KOA in a Motorhome.

Hot Springs KOA, Hot Springs, South Dakota

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

We only stayed one night but these people were great. BC we were traveling with a class A motorhome and trailer they upgraded us for no charge to a larger sight. They let us stay a little longer so we could see sights around the town (mammoth and others). They gave us great advice on where and what to eat. I was in the office when they had other people coming in and they just showed such caring. Really wish we could have stayed longer. They have a lot of trees that are pretty close to the camp sights so when u book here keep that in mind. Had wifi and signal the whole time in this area. We camped at Hot Springs KOA in a Motorhome.

Big Cedar RV Park, Hodgen, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

I noticed others giving very high marks but feel that this park was just average. The owner was a very nice and accommodating man but he had a dog that he allowed to run loose through the entire camp upsetting not just our dogs but others that were locked in their campers. The lots were grass and took a lot to be able to level them. The bath house was clean, no doubt, but old and needed work on the floor (split and warped linoleum) and the door frame. The door looked new but there was daylight around it. The fire rings were movable and it took us a night to figure out that we could ask for one to be moved to our camp sight. I noticed one or two picnic tables but would have been nice to have them at all camp sights, however, all of the camp sights are Very close together so that is not likely to happen. We had a big rig come in while we were gone for the day and their pop out was literally 2 ft from ours. One really nice thing is that they had mowed a path to the river (it was dry) so that we could walk our dogs down there. Problem is that the owners dog followed and sent ours into a frenzy so we had to turn around. This cg seemed popular with the 4 wheeler types and they did have what seemed to be very nice cabins. We camped at Big Cedar RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We came here to see the Rune Stone at Heavener State Park and to drive Talimena (Talihena) byway. Colors hadn't changed yet but we were limited on time. The Rune Stone was cool to see. Lots of stairs though so make sure u have on comfortable shoes.

Maverick Ranch RV Park at Lajitas Resort, Lajitas, Texas

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Boy I sure wish they would give you something slightly less than satisfactory but not 'bad' per se. The camp ground had a lot of straggley weeds with stickers that got stuck in our small dogs underbellies and tails. The camp sights varied from very nice to not so much. It rained hard one night and the next day was a big mud hole right outside our camper, daughter lost a flip flop in it and feet were covered in mud. Bathrooms were not dirty but not clean either, toilets had hard water deposit (white vinegar can fix that) and floors were not swept the entire 4 days we were there (same piece of paper was on the floor the whole time, I finally picked it up). Pool was nice. Office was nice, people were nice. This is part of a 5 star golf resort, they should remove all of the weeds and install the decorative small gravel to alleviate mud problems. We did not have a picnic table at our sight and had to drag one over, we also did not have a fire pit when others did. Beautiful views as long as u were not close to the bathrooms. Look at their map before you book so you can pick a good spot. Park was almost empty so we should have moved to another spot but is a pain when you are already hooked up. We camped at Maverick Ranch RV Park at Lajitas Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

This is near Big Bend if you are not there to play golf. Awesome Ntl Park. Should take about 3 days to see it, that is what it took us. Tried to go to Presidio but highway is VERY twisting and I was car sick. Worth it if you can go though, beautiful scenery. Don't bother with Terlingua 'Ghost Town' nothing there. Their idea of 'ruins' is old building from the '20s (1920 that is) Ha, my house was built in 1928. Nothing else much to see there.

Junction/North Llano River RV Park, Junction, Texas

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here overnight on the way to Big Bend Texas. It was a lovely campground. They even had a dog run that you could unleash your dogs and let them 'free' including poop bags to use. It was easy to get to and easy to get in. If I were headed back there I would definitely stay here again. The river was lovely and the people were friendly and accommodating. They had a pool which we did not use but looked nice and bathroom/shower which we also did not use but looked nice. We camped at Junction/North Llano River RV Park in a Motorhome.

Pecos River RV Park & Store, Carlsbad, New Mexico

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

We called while on the road, the man who answered was quite accommodating. This park is DIFFICULT to get into especially with a 30 ft RV and towing a car. I did explain size to the man on the phone. It is not a bad sight by the river but there are obviously other RV's there that are permanent or long term people because their RV's are in questionable condition. They offer no discounts even though we are with AAA, Good Sam. Coast to Coast etc. We could not hook up to sewer because we had to pull too far ahead in order to fit in slot without unhooking car but we were only there for the night so no big deal. I went into store to buy hamburger buns and every package was moldy but one. Eeeewwwwww. This might have been ok for a quick overnight to see the Caverns but will not go back. Also is very close to high traffic area and noisy traffic all night long! We camped at Pecos River RV Park & Store in a Motorhome.
