Kentucky Horse Park Campground, Lexington, Kentucky

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Paved site just wide enough for our fifth wheel trailer. Site was level side to side; most sites slope either towards or away from the road due to the terrain. Very large bathhouses with lots of sinks, stalls and showers. However, the showers had one on-off handle at a pre-set temperature and I had to try some different shower stalls to get a comfortable water temperature. One morning both ladies' bathhouses were closed for cleaning at the same time, which was inconvenient. Management apologized and said that is not supposed to happen. The laundry room I looked at had two washers and 4 dryers but one washer was out of order. The office staff was able to give us directions to a good laundromat in Georgetown. The closest grocery store is there also. We stayed here twice. The first time the fire ring was full of trash when we arrived. At the next visit our site was clean. Sites vary greatly as to amount of shade. Some were muddy after a rain. The park is in a good location for what we wanted to see and do in the Georgetown-Lexington area. We camped at Kentucky Horse Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Maumee Bay State Park, Oregon, Ohio

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

Lovely state park with a continuous symphony of bird songs. Site 75 was level and conveniently located right next to both the fresh water spigot and gray water drain pedestals. Each side of the bathhouse had 2 stalls, 2 showers and 3 sinks which doesn't seem like a lot for 45 sites but was sufficient in May. Great area for biking and walking. You have to drive to the recreational areas, lodge, and golf course because the park is so large. They no longer have rental boats. We recommend the wonderful Boardwalk behind the nature center and the restaurant in the lodge. We camped at Maumee Bay State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Silver Springs State Park (formerly Silver River State Park), Ocala, Florida

Date of Stay: February, 2015 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

Nice pull through and back in sites. The sites in the middle of the camping loops had the longest pull throughs, definitely big rig friendly. We were in site 15 which was mostly shaded and no view of the sky for satellite. Good reception for both cell phones and air card though. Ladies bathroom in our loop had two shower stalls with bench, hooks and plenty of hot water. Although I'd rate the facilities as good, the heat lamps were ineffective during a cold snap. Campground was dark and quiet at night with decent space between sites. We had a full day of heavy rain and the roads and sites drained very well with no standing water. We camped at Silver Springs State Park (formerly Silver River State Park) in a Fifth Wheel.

Sun-N-Fun RV Resort, Sarasota, Florida

Date of Stay: February, 2015 - $67.00
Overall Rating:

Pretty much a parking lot but we like it for the convenient location to Sarasota. Although it looks tight for the big rigs to maneuver somehow they all make it in. It's always full in the winter months. We usually stay in King which is definitely tight in spots; Queen has longer pull throughs. Our site backed up to an RV that was so long they hung well back over the end of their site which meant we needed an extension cord to reach our shore power outlet. We've had some good meals in their restaurant which is very convenient. Diesel, gas and propane are available right across the street from the entrance. Pet friendly though there are some cats running loose. The dog washing stations are great. A few problems we reported have always been addressed immediately. We camped at Sun-N-Fun RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.
