Harrison Bay State Park, Harrison, Tennessee

Date of Stay: February, 2017 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

We had a lovely waterfront campsite. We walked through loop B and decided that wouldn't be a good option for us, as most sites aren't level. Loop A is definitely a better choice. We didn't use any of the facilities. We were glad that we heeded the warning about big rigs and sites 36-41. The loop at that end is a very tight turn. Our motor home would not be able to make the turn. I'm guessing the rate. No discount for premium sites. We camped at Harrison Bay State Park in a Motorhome.

Indian Mountain State Park, Jellico, Tennessee

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

Kudos to the state of Tennessee and the city of Jellico for reclaiming this beautiful area from an abandoned surface mine. This is one of the prettiest state parks we've visited in Tennessee. As other reviewers have mentioned, the sites appear to be recently updated with new concrete pads. New landscaping is in progress, with many new trees planted in and around campsites. Many huge, old sycamore trees add to the beautiful surroundings. There are lots of grassy areas, and sites are well-spaced. We saw people kayaking on the lake. The camp store has paddle boats and fishing boats for rent. There are 2 nice playground areas. Bring mosquito repellant. As you would expect with water, grass and trees, the mosquitos have an ideal atmosphere for breeding. The campground wasn't full. The only down side is that there seems to be considerable traffic continuously passing through the campground. Most people are respectful and drive slowly. Biking requires considerable caution at times. We have 40 ft motorhome and had no problems navigating the roads or our campsite. FYI - we didn't have a tow vehicle but there isn't an option for NA on the tow vehicle questions in this review. Our site was just long enough for our RV. A tow vehicle would be manageable but would require some finesse to position. We camped at Indian Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

The camp store is very small with a few cold drinks, ice cream, firewood, t-shirts and other souvenirs. Staff was helpful.

Destiny Parks and Pavillion (Military FamCamp), Fort Campbell, Kentucky

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed for 1 night in the larger campground, next to the skeet range. The campsite itself was nice enough. The sites are fairly close, but not any more so than some KOAs we've recently stayed in. This park has tremendous potential, but the common areas need some TLC. It's almost like a forgotten little area. As for the wooden bridge, when I called to inquire about camp site availability, I was told that the 9 ton load limit was posted to keep large trucks from using the bridge and thus destroying it. I was assured that our 40 ft Motorhome would not be a problem, and it wasn't.
Reservations are not accepted. However, I was able to call to inquire about open campsites prior to driving all the way into the campground. The person who answered the phone was most helpful and told me how many sites were available at that point in time that would accommodate our Motorhome.
Would love to see the military invest a little time toward cleaning up the park, lake and stream so that its potential could be maximized. Definitely a good place to stop for a one night stay. We camped at Destiny Parks and Pavillion (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Registration office is in the red building (at red light junction) prior to entering the campground. If arriving after 4:30, choose your site, hook up, then pay when the office reopens at 7:30am. The office is a good distance from the campground, and not easily identified.

Fishing Bridge Campground (Concessionaire Operated), Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $57.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here because it was convenient to the trails and sites we wanted to visit. Other than convenience, there is no value to staying here. The sites are incredibly cramped. Management is working to make some basic improvements to the sites in terms of protecting the connections, but the biggest problem is that there are too many sites crammed into too small space. Our slide outs were inches from our neighbors windows. There is no picnic table - probably because there would be no way to squeeze anything else into a site. I sincerely hope that the NPS will require a redesign of this RV camp in the near future. It is convenient to many park trails and attractions. Yellowstone is too well maintained to tolerate such a poorly designed and maintained campground. We camped at Fishing Bridge Campground (Concessionaire Operated) in a Motorhome.

Yellowstone Grizzly RV Park, West Yellowstone, Montana

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice "new-looking" RV Park. Sites are fairly close together but definitely adequate for a place to stay to tour the area. Each site has a grassy area with picnic table. Laundry facility was very nice and clean. Easy pull through access for our 40 ft Motorhome. The town of West Yellowstone is within walking distance. We camped at Yellowstone Grizzly RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Definitely recommend Running Bear Pancake House for breakfast. It's also open for lunch but we ate there only for breakfast. Noticed that you can purchase a box "to-go" lunch early in the day. Within walking distance.
Firehole (also within walking distance) gift shop has very nice items instead of the typical "touristy" stuff.

Desert Eagle RV Park (Military FamCamp), Nellis AFB, Nevada

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed at Desert Eagle for a week. We had a spacious, landscaped campsite with designated parking spaces for both a vehicle and motorcycle trailer. Ours was a back in site, but we noticed several nice pull through sites, too. Back in was easy onto a concrete pad with full hookups.
We arrived prior to office closing, but it's important to note that if you arrive after 7:00pm, there isn't an option to go to the campground. Posted instructions are to park in designated parking areas in front of the office until office opening hours the following morning.
Office staff are efficient and knowledgeable. Access is easy and it's clear that Nellis and the USAF have invested in making Desert Eagle a destination campground. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Desert Eagle RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Little Rock AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp), Little Rock Air Force Base, Arkansas

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here on a 1 night stopover on westbound trip. Excellent pull through sites, plenty long enough for our 38 ft RV plus small trailer. Level concrete pad. Nice, spacious sites. Back in sites are lovely in the edge of the trees. Looks like tons of stuff to do if you are looking for an extended stay. Convenience store with gas pumps just outside the campground. I would definitely recommend this campground and hope that we get the opportunity to return for a longer stay. We camped at Little Rock AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Rock Island State Park, Rock Island, Tennessee

Date of Stay: March, 2016 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

We initially reserved site 37 and for our 37 ft motorhome. There was no way to safely get it level. After calling the office to request a change, we moved to site number 1 and loved it. Site 37 would probably be fine for a small towable RV. You'll want to avoid it for anything of significant length. The layout of the campground is nice. There are just a few sites with sewer hookups. There are a few sites with inclines, some level. Wireless is great. The park itself is lovely and easy to access. Hiking trails provide lovely views and are well maintained. We saw several people tent camping in nice sites. Will definitely camp here again. We camped at Rock Island State Park in a Motorhome.

Cherokee / Great Smokies KOA, Cherokee, North Carolina

Date of Stay: September, 2015 - $61.00
Overall Rating:

First, the good: The campground has concrete pads and adequate roads for our 37 ft Motorhome. It's in a lovely setting and the campground staff were all very nice.
The bad: needs some ecologically safe treatment for gnats/fruitflies across the entire campground. Without a significant breeze, it was impossible to be outside for any length of time without being swarmed by these little pests.
If a site appears very narrow on the campground map, it is probably way too narrow to have any outside space. The sites on the river nearest to the campground entrance are on a very small prong of the river. The upstream river front sites are much nicer. Unless you want to hear the motor for the jumping mat throughout your stay, you'll want to be farther from the entrance, pools, jumping mat, etc. If you have children who will be using these amenities, you'll want to consider the closer sites.
We will visit this campground again, but will definitely be looking for sites toward the back. We camped at Cherokee / Great Smokies KOA in a Motorhome.

Lotts Island Army Airfield RV Park (Military FamCamp), Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

Since we were told on the phone that there were no sites available in the regular campground, we stayed in the overflow "primitive" campground. This area has water hookups only. There was one other camper in this area but no one appeared to be be staying there during our visit. We only stayed one night and with a generator and fully contained it was fine. The sites are poorly defined and indicated only by the water hookups. We selected what appeared to be a pull-through site.

Upon arrival we drove through the regular campground and couldn't help but notice unoccupied sites, as well as many RVs that appeared to be at least semi-permanent; it certainly appeared that some had been in place much longer than 14 days. The vacant sites were still vacant when we left the following day, although we were told that no sites were available for our single night request. Signs indicate that you can call the office for assistance. I didn't see a sign indicating directions to the office.

We would stay here again for an overnight stopover. We camped at Lotts Island Army Airfield RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Very close to Savannah Mall, Target, and about 10 - 15 minutes to the River Front. Absolutely convenient to historic Savannah. Many amenities are also close, and it's convenient to I-95 and I- 16.

Boone KOA, Boone, North Carolina

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

We reserved a back in site with full hookups. The KOA website description indicated 50 amp close to building. Our site backed up to the campground playground which could be bothersome for some. There were obviously a lot of full time residents, but also many campers like us, just passing through. The office staff were friendly and helpful. The road to the campground was hilly and curvy as you would expect in the mountainous region, but not particularly challenging in our 37 ft RV. We enjoyed our stay and would stay here again. We didn't use any of the facilities. We camped at Boone KOA in a Motorhome.

Branches of Niagara Campground and Resort, Grand Island, New York

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $71.00
Overall Rating:

The park is beautifully landscaped. It appeared that they were still getting ready for the season - repairing the miniature golf course and doing some additional maintenance. Sunsets over the lake are beautiful. Make sure that you have plenty of insect repellant on when the breeze dies down. We didn't use any facilities but all appeared well-maintained. We stayed in site 69 which received intense evening sun. I would stay here again. We camped at Branches of Niagara Campground and Resort in a Motorhome.

Gerald Freeman COE campground, Sutton, West Virginia

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed in site 39 by the river in our 37 ft Winnebago, with 50 amp/water/sewer connections. The park is lovely and well-maintained. Lots of green space where families were playing games. Our campsite was paved and shaded in the evening by a large tree. Some sites are shaded and some aren't. Fairly level sites. Hwy 15 to the campground is somewhat challenging with hills and sharp curves, but certainly doable. We didn't use any of the facilities. The reason for a 4 star rating instead of 5 is that unfortunately, our site was littered with trash and cigarettes. I would stay here again and would recommend. We camped at Gerald Freeman COE campground in a Motorhome.
