Billings Village RV Park, Billings, Montana

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice clean campground. Sites are close together with no tables or fire rings. Near I-90 so good place for an overnight stay. Didn't use it, but laundry room was very clean. We couldn't get the "free" park wifi to work. Our Verizon Mifi worked well. We camped at Billings Village RV Park in a Motorhome.

St. Mary Campground (NPS Campground), Glacier National Park, Montana

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $12.00
Overall Rating:

Wonderful campground - just wish they had electric hookups. Most campsites are surrounded by bushes and small trees so there is quite a bit of privacy between sites. All campsites are pull-thrus so if you are in an RV and want your patio door to face your site rather than the road then choose a site on the outside of the loop. Berries were ripe while we were there so there were bears coming into the campground. Nice location for day trips to Many Glacier and Two Medicine. Verizon phone and Mifi worked well. We camped at St. Mary Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

Fish Creek Campground (NPS Campground), Glacier National Park, Montana

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $12.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful wooded campground - no mountain or lake views in Loop B. We were there when the temps were in the 90s so the shade was much appreciated. The campground map doesn't show it but all sites are pull-through. If you don't want your RV door facing the road pick a site on the right-hand (outside) side of the loop We were in site B68 next to the restroom. Although our site was lovely, I would give it a 1 out of 5 star rating for irritation. The restroom doors "clunk" when they close which was annoying during high-volume visit times (morning and evening). The campground also gets noisy in the evening as families return from their day activities. I thought the campground was limited to 35ft RVs but there were several in the campground that were larger. Generator use is only allowed 8-10am, 12-2pm, and 5-7pm. Because of bears, campers are told not to leave any food, including coolers and grills, out when gone from their site any length of time - we saw the Rangers remove a grill and a cooler from 2 sites when the occupants were gone. Campers are able to retrieve their stuff when they return. We camped at Fish Creek Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

Shelby RV Park & Resort, Shelby, Montana

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

Great place for an overnight on the way to Glacier National Park. We had white-tailed prarie dogs right outside our door. No trees so great satellite reception. Free wifi and Verizon worked well. We didn't take advantage of it but the Comfort Inn offers their breakfast buffet for $6 to campers. We camped at Shelby RV Park & Resort in a Motorhome.

Cottonwood Inn & Suites, Glasgow, Montana

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Great overnight spot. Very clean. Our site at the end was spacious. I rated the campground lower than I would because I thought it was overpriced for the area ($44 before GS discount). Clean laundry with 2 washers and dryers. Nice restaurant and lounge in the motel. The mosquitoes were horrible ankle biters so we didn't sit outside. We camped at Cottonwood Inn & Suites in a Motorhome.

Theodore Roosevelt Nat'l Park / Juniper Campground, Watford City, North Dakota

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $7.00
Overall Rating:

What a gem of a park! Wonderful location - a little nerve racking to get to it going north on 85 from I-90 with all of the oil tankers. Most of the sites are wooded but sites 42, 43 and 44 are clear for satellites. There is evidence of Bison in the campground but none came through while we stayed there. I would have given the park a 10 if they would have at least had electric hook-ups. The temps were close to 90. We had no problem getting a site - there were many empty ones and most folks seem to only stay one night. We camped at Theodore Roosevelt Nat'l Park / Juniper Campground in a Motorhome.

Devils Tower KOA, Devils Tower, Wyoming

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

What an incredible location at the foot of Devils Tower! Expensive sites (we only had W/E) but if you want electricity when it is in the 90s - this park is practicality the only one around. We stayed the first weekend in Aug when the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally was starting. Do not visit the Black Hills area the last week of July/ first week of Aug if the constant roar of motorcycles is not your thing. Also campgrounds within a hundred miles of Sturgis raise their rates during that time - our Sat night rate was $12 more than Fri because of Sturgis. We camped at Devils Tower KOA in a Motorhome.

Medora Campground, Medora, North Dakota

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful location in a lovely town. The campground is just adequate and extremely dusty with its dirt/gravel roads. We had a short full hookups site and we're lucky that no one was on either side. Our patio side neighbors sewer would have been right at our door - at other sites the sewer hookup is under their neighbor's picnic table. The free wifi is only good for email. Our Verizon MiFi worked great. Our Direct TV would not work because of trees. Other sites were treeless - be sure to ask for a satellite friendly site if you have a satellite. No over air TV. The Medora Musical is a surprisingly good, quality show and well worth going to. The Pitchfork Fondue was so-so - beautiful location but cafeteria type food. We stayed here 3 nights while visiting TRNP. We camped at Medora Campground in a Motorhome.

Clear Lake State Park, Clear Lake, Iowa

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Stopped here for an overnight stay mid-week. Nice, clean, quiet campground. Electric only, although there seem to be a few hookups for the camp hosts. Self-check in. Our Dish would not work because of trees. Be sure to visit the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake. It is the last place Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and the Big Bopper played before being killed in a plane wreck in 1959. The museum there is filled with rock and roll memorabilia. We camped at Clear Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

City of Houghton RV Park, Houghton, Michigan

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

What a gem of a park! Beautiful well-maintained park along the Houghton canal with covered picnic table/bench at each site. The park is limited to self contained RVs because there are no bathroom/shower facilities. There are also no laundry facilities, but there is a nice laundromat (Loads of Fun) nearby. They advertise free wifi but it never worked for us. Our Verizon mifi worked fine. The campground is located next to a city park with playground and beach. We stayed here 2 weeks and will be back for a longer stay. We camped at City of Houghton RV Park in a Motorhome.

Munising Tourist Park Campground, Munising, Michigan

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

Great family campground right on Lake Superior. You need to make reservations well in advance, particularly if you want a lakefront site. Apparently full hookup sites 88 - 100 were added a couple of years ago and they are much narrower than the older lake front sites. While not obvious on the on-line park map they are all different sizes - some very narrow. Our site 95 was narrow but had a bush on the patio side that helped with privacy. Site 96 was even narrower - at one point during our 6 day stay a trailer in that site extended their awning & it was about 12 inches from the side of our motor home. However, the lakefront sites are well worth it - the views are incredible. Our fire ring was full of old ashes, apparently the park staff, unlike other parks we have been to, doesn't clean out the fire ring so we had to fill 2 trash bags with ashes before we could use the fire ring. The park offers "free Wi-Fi" - maybe we were too far away from the source but we could never stay connected to their Wi-Fi for any length of time. Our Verizon MiFi worked fine. Our DirecTV dish worked after moving further back in our site. We would return if ever in the area again. We camped at Munising Tourist Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Mackinaw Mill Creek Camping, Mackinaw City, Michigan

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

Gigantic campground! Great for kids. The rate list posted on their webpage and is very confusing. I originally made reservations for a small size FHU site, unfortunately there is no site map of the campground on-line (they are only found in the office and camp store, although you can look at the one in the store). Since we were in a 30ft MH, I thought a small size site would be fine. You don't know your site # until you check in. We were put in #134. If you like camping like a sardine it would have been fine. Luckily there were lots of empty sites so we asked to be moved to a lrg site & were given #172 which was quite spacious. In loops 3 - 9, sm FHU back-in sites are on the side of the road facing west and the lrg back-in FHU sites are on the road facing east. Each large site is equal in width to two sm sites. The FHU lake front sites look to be the same size as the small size (no view) FHU sites. While the view is great in the front row, the sites are way too close, but you wouldn't know that because there is no campground site map. The free WIFI wasn't worth the effort to try to log on - never did work for us. Our own Verizon Jetpack mifi worked fine. It was a real hassle to take our trash to the front of the park - they need to add more trash cans. We did not use the showers/bathrooms but 1 shower building for a campground this size seems inadequate. Interior roads are narrow. The cabins looked nice. Mackinac Island Star Line ferry offers free pick up and return to the campground which was very convenient. We stayed here a week and would probably return. All staff were very friendly & helpful. The campground was very clean but worn looking. Our lrg site was $31 during the week and $34 on the weekends. It averaged $29 with a good sam discount. We camped at Mackinaw Mill Creek Camping in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Big Stone Bay Fishery is near the campground and has very good fresh fish for sale.

Colonial Michilmackinac and Fort Mackinac are worth a visit, as are the McGulpin and Old Mackinac Point Lighthouses.

We would not recommend the Mackinac Island Carriage tour. It was expensive and the guides were more jokesters than historic narrators. Easier and less expensive to walk or bike on the island.

Little River Casino Resort, Manistee, Michigan

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice campground but with a Good Sam 10/10/10 rating I would have expected more/some landscaping between the sites. The sites were level concrete. Verizon worked. Very clean laundry. The staff were very helpful. Free coffee in the office. The casino/hotel is very attractive. The pool/spa is inside the hotel (we didn't use it). We would return if ever in the area again. Good Sam rates are lower during the week ($24) that on the weekends ($28). We stayed 4 nights. We camped at Little River Casino Resort in a Motorhome.

Shamrock Park, Berrien Springs, Michigan

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice, quiet campground run by the Village of Berrien Springs. The friendly resident manager lives in a house in the campground. We stayed in the new section in an end pull through with no one on our patio side. The sites in the new section are very spacious, the ones in the older sections are closer together. There are 6 individual shower/bathrooms in the new section shower building. We didn't use them but they looked very nice and clean. They have free Wi-Fi although I didn't see mention of that on their webpage. We stayed here 4 nights and would return if we are ever in the area again. We camped at Shamrock Park in a Motorhome.

Deam Lake State Recreation Area, Borden, Indiana

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

We arrived mid-week and the campground was nearly empty - only 4 other sites were filled. Our site F-26 was a pull-through at the end of the campground peninsula. Only electric hookups but water spigot was next to our site. We were on the water with easy access to the lake to launch our kayak. Our site was not level - we had to put blocks under the tires to get level. The staff are questionable - they didn't seem to know the answers to any questions we asked. The campground was about 75% full over the weekend - mainly tents. The folks who came into F27 next to us pitched their tent very close to our fire ring but that was the closest level spot to their angled driveway. Ruined our view of the lake. There was a guy fishing near us wearing a holster and gun - kinda scary. I quess it is legal in IN. We stayed 5 nights and would stay here again. We camped at Deam Lake State Recreation Area in a Motorhome.
