Outflow Camping COE, Confluence, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: June, 2016 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Spacious site with partial shade, picnic table and fire ring, electric only, water spigots throughout park to fill freshwater tank. Very close (walking distance) to the small town of Confluence. Park is located directly on the Youghiogheny River, popular with anglers. Verizon and AT&T both worked with fair signal. No over the air TV signal. We camped at Outflow Camping COE in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater is nearby road trip, the town of Ohiopyle is an easy 10 mile bike ride along the Great Allegheny Passage trail. The Great Allegheny Passage is great for hiking/biking, it's a rail to trail with gentle grades.

Lake Fausse Pointe State Park, Saint Martinville, Louisiana

Date of Stay: December, 2015 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

This is a getaway from it all type of park, a place you can disconnect from everything. You are located near the Atchafalaya Basin, so enjoy the natural setting. At this time of year, the park was mostly vacant. After our scheduled stay was over we added a few extra days, it was that relaxing. We were able to choose a waterfront site that had it's own dock for your canoe or kayak. All 50 sites are back-in, mostly level, with the water/power on the wrong side. Not a big deal, our hose and cord easily reached. Mosquito's were minimal, bug spray was optional. Lot's of wildlife for viewing or photography. Night skies are very dark, great for star gazing. The camp host was always friendly and busy at maintaining the sites. Cell service was nonexistent for Verizon, limited for AT&T. Many OTA channels from Lafayette and Baton Rouge. Free WiFI was filtered and slow. Restrooms were dated, but clean. Having free washers/dryers was nice. Many walking trails, but some spots can get sloppy after rains. Canoes, kayaks, and small john boats available for rent. Swimming not allowed due to the gators. Great fishing nearby. Two small grocery stores 10 miles away with the basics. The town of St. Martinville is a little longer drive, but worth the trip to go explore and grab a bite. We camped at Lake Fausse Pointe State Park in a Motorhome.

Heron Lake State Park, Tierra Amarilla, New Mexico

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

Visited early October 2015, stayed in Cottonwood campground, spot #17. Very few people here, maybe 5 other RV's in all campgrounds. Great level pull through site with view of the lake. Covered cabana over picnic table. 30 amp power was a little low on voltage, but we didn;t need A/C at this time of year. Blanco campground was open, but restroom and showers were already winterized and closed. Lake water level was low, but a few boats were out during the day. Nice gravel hiking trails to view mule deer and bunnies. We camped at Heron Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

This is a very large state park with six separate campgrounds that offer anything from primitive tent sites, group camping, to a few full hookups.

Tamarack RV Park, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed a week. The park is located near the center of town. At least half of the residents are long timers. Level gravel site. Picnic table had rotted boards. Nice paved roads within park. Restrooms were dated and one shower stall was cracked at the base. Quiet at night. We would stay here again for an overnight stay. We camped at Tamarack RV Park in a Motorhome.

Idyl Acres, Bonners Ferry, Idaho

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

Rate shown reflects the weekly rate of $170.00. Park still has 10 sites, all full hook-up pull-throughs with plenty of room. Our site was level, no blocks needed. Some spots are shady with big trees, others are open if you want satellite service. No Verizon or AT&T. Two OTA TV stations. This is a nice quiet getaway with lots of hiking and exploring nearby. Moderate drive to Bonners Ferry for supplies. We spent a week here and we were sad to leave. We camped at Idyl Acres in a Motorhome.

Mountain Meadow RV Park, Hungry Horse, Montana

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

Nice quiet park set on the slope at the base of the mountains. Sites are close to level. Park roads are somewhat steep with tight turns but manageable. Clean hot shower, pay laundry facilities. Wildlife sightings within the campgrounds. Note: LOUD Air raid siren blasted at 3 am, we called the local police, the dispatcher explained that was the call out for the volunteer fire department, not to be worried. We camped at Mountain Meadow RV Park in a Motorhome.

South Toledo Bend State Park, Anacoco, Louisiana

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Weekends are very crowded with people, boats, boat trailers, & multiple vehicles per site. Weekdays were better. Hiking trails are nice. Plenty of fishing possibilities. 1 restroom was being remodeled during our stay. No TV with antenna. Site kind of rough, used many leveling blocks. We camped at South Toledo Bend State Park in a Motorhome.

Basic park with 30 amp and water hookups - and a 4 spot dump station. Grass parking spots. Small trees scattered around, minimal shade. Showers/restrooms clean no frills. Clear Creek RV Park, Golden, Colorado

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

Clear Creek RV Park is all about location. It is located on a stream and has a great concrete walking (biking) trail to downtown Golden, Colorado. The local area is great and offers a lot of outdoor and indoor activities.

Neighbors are near and there are a few larger rigs in the park but beware of low hanging trees and tight spots. We camped here in a 25 foot motorhome and were able to extend our slide but not our awning but we were in one of the smaller sites.

This is a very popular campground so make your reservations early. We camped at Clear Creek RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Be sure to take the Coors tour, go to Lookout Mountain, and take advantage of the other wonderful activities in the area.

Grocery stores are within a short driving distance and the Saturday Farmers Market was a short walk from the RV Park and one of the best we've seen.

Mountaindale Cabins & RV Resort, Colorado Springs, Colorado

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for 4 nights. Three nights we used the Passport America rate listed above and one night we paid full price. We enjoyed our stay. It is a quiet and calm park with friendly, helpful staff that are always working to improve the park. There were several long term campers but their sites were well kept and they were very friendly. Lots of wildlife and a beautiful stream. We saw bear tracks, deer, rabbits, etc. (One deer peeked into our RV while we were having breakfast.) We had full hook-ups, Verizon cell service (no AT&T), and cable. About a 20-25 minute drive to Colorado Springs attractions. There is a store on site with the basic essentials. We will stay here again.

We stayed here in a 25 foot motorhome but the sites would (and did) accommodate motorhomes of all sizes. The park is in the process of enlarging the sites and adding landscaping but we stayed in the older section. We camped at Mountaindale Cabins & RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Get hiking nearby - Drive to Helen Hunt Falls and hike on to Silver Cascade Falls. Next, stop by the Mt. Cutler trail and hike to a beautiful view of the Seven Falls. These are easy to moderate hikes and are good hikes to help you adjust to the altitude.

We also recommend Garden of the Gods which you can view driving or hiking. The Air Force Academy tour was very good and we also had a great time taking backroads with our four wheel drive toad.
