North Park Campground, Dickinson, North Dakota

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

This park appears to be in a bit of a transformation, at least in the short-term section. This transformation seemed to be going well and I anticipate that when it is done it will be very nice. Even though it isn't complete, everything for us was fine. The park found us a suitable site for a big RV and all the hook-ups/utilities were in fine shape. The park was quiet at night. Dog walking area is identified and good. There are quite a few long-termers in the park but they are neat and tidy and separated from the short term slots. The staff/owners were very helpful and polite. We camped at North Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Pavilion RV Park, West Monroe, Louisiana

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

If you want to visit West Monroe, there are limited choices. This RV park is fine for a short stop over, from my perspective. I wouldn't come here for a vacation in itself but it is fine for what it is. We camped at Pavilion RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

There's a little place called "Latin Restaurant" where they serve Honduran meals. It is really good. Then there's Duck Commander Warehouse where Duck Dynasty takes place. The two places are actually about half a mile apart. Last time I came through I ate at Willie's Duck Diner but apparently it is currently closed for some kind of update.

A-Okay RV Mobile Home and RV park, Dothan, Alabama

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

This is a basic, good place to stop and rest, visit Dothan area, or just pass the night. The park is quiet, the sites are large, and the owners are very nice and helpful. It is basic and is not a 'resort' but it does well at all elementary functions. I would stay again if passing through the area. The rates are also quite reasonable with Passport. We camped at A-Okay RV Mobile Home and RV park in a Motorhome.

Waiiaka RV Park (formerly Waiiaka Trailer Haven), Yreka, California

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

This park could have gone in either direction. It isn't 'beautiful' and the spaces are a little tight but there are some shade trees. That said, the utilities all work and it is pretty quiet aside from a potential Friday night race at the nearby fairgrounds. There are RV sites at the front and some trailers at the back with long term residents. Some of the RV'ers look like they've been here for awhile but it isn't too junked up. The real make or break here is that the owners/staff are nice and honest people who try to make things go well for guests. In all, I wouldn't come here as my vacation destination per se but I'm more than happy with the site and service for a brief stop during a long trip. It looks like the owners are working to improve the place. We camped at Waiiaka RV Park (formerly Waiiaka Trailer Haven) in a Motorhome.

Lazy JD RV Park, Piedmont, South Dakota

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This is a good place to stay if you want to get away from the interstate and experience what the area is about. The host was nice. The site was plenty big. Everyone was friendly. The scenery and ambiance is nice and relaxing. The weather can be exciting. There was hail a few times. You can drive to Mount Rushmore from here pretty easily and Sturgis and Deadwood are up the road a bit. Rapid City has everything you might need. We camped at Lazy JD RV Park in a Motorhome.

Spruce Park on the River, Kalispell, Montana

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

It is a pretty big park on the river. The sites are long but the roads are a bit narrow and there are some big trees. This makes parking a big rig a bit challenging. There is a small dog area that can be kind of far depending on where you are housed. It is relatively close to getting in to Glacier National Park at the west gate and the town will meet all of your basic resupply needs. We camped at Spruce Park on the River in a Motorhome.

Blue Lake RV Resort, Naples, Idaho

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

The hosts are very nice and approachable. The park is 'big rig' friendly according to the site. I would rather say that it is big rig accessible but you should be on your A game and ready for some maneuvering. There are some tight turns and elevation changes on dirt. The park has a kind of eclectic 'hippy'ish' set up. That's popular in this area it seems. The host led us in to the site. The town of Bonners Ferry is interesting. The people we encountered were pretty nice. There are quite a few long term guests. We camped at Blue Lake RV Resort in a Motorhome.

We went into the historic part of Bonners Ferry to check it out. It was interesting. We ate at Mugsy's and the hamburgers were very tasty. I would avoid the cheesecake recommendation in the future but that's probably a personal thing. It just wasn't as dense as I like it to be.

Toutle River RV Resort, Castle Rock, Washington

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Nice park, paved roads, lots of sites, nice store with basic necessities, pool, sauna, spa, secured... On the negative side: busy on weekend, kids on electric scooters and bikes all over the roads, hard to get a satellite shot from some sites, I've never seen this many dogs off lead hanging out. Overall it is a good park for the money. Full hookups, reliable electricity, relatively high water pressure. The water is a bit tea colored. We camped at Toutle River RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Pointes West Army Rec Area (Military FamCamp), Appling, Georgia

Date of Stay: November, 2015 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

This is an off shoot from Fort Gordon. They are trying to plus it up. It has internet this time. That's new. They paved the roads. They put in new sewer and water outlets. The sewer holes are big and unthreaded. I can't figure out how to make that work without some leakage of gasses yet. It rates high because it is cheap, full hook up, and there isn't much competition around here. We camped at Pointes West Army Rec Area (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Pavilion RV Park, West Monroe, Louisiana

Date of Stay: November, 2015 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

This is one of those two world parks. There are a lot of full timers/long termers on the edges and in the back. There are pull throughs up front for short termers. It is gravel, fairly level, you can get a big RV towing in and out, and it seems safe enough. There is internet but it is slow and a lot of work. It is Duck Dynasty town if you want to see where that show takes place. We camped at Pavilion RV Park in a Motorhome.

I wish there were more parks like this near the interstate everywhere. It is inexpensive, with full hookups, pull throughs, and everything works. It is close to the interstate, there's gas, and there's food. We camped at Holt's Shell RV Park in a Motorhome.

Hill AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp), Hill AFB, Utah

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

We got a FHU back in for a week on short notice. The layout of the sites is a little lacking but overall, for the price and security, it was pretty good. There was a shared water point for some sites rather than individual ones. That created a bit of a maze with hoses. There were some telephone poles that sort of limited site length. My 43' was right at the road edge. There are some newer and better sites but when you call on short notice, you take what you can get. The office guy was good. We never had any problems while there. We camped at Hill AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Paradise Cove Resort & Marina, Rockaway Beach, Oregon

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

The nightly rate is an average over 16 nights using Passport America. The rates/discount varied dependent on the day of the week. Overall, the park is a little run down and in need of some TLC. We stayed in the upper level. Sites are a little close for my preference. There was some overgrowth that affected my RV. Water/Elec worked fine. I always use a pressure regulator so I don't pay much attention. Sewer was a little iffy but it was functional with a little extra effort. I ended up running about 30' of hose to reach the drain. After each dump, I 'walked the line' to empty the hose. There were picnic tables but some of them bordered on well framed firewood storage methods. There was a dump station with a missing/broken cap near some sites close to the dumpster. Thankfully, the temp helped to keep the play on that to a minimum. Timing for emptying the dumpster is not mastered. It can reach maximum capacity for some days before emptying. There isn't dedicated grassy space for pets. There is grass but when the park is busy, it tends to get filled with vehicles, boats and trailers, and even tents. The pool and hot tub are OK. The showers and restrooms are pretty good. The facility manager is not a pleasant person. He tries to solve problems with bullying even if he is wrong and you show him. I personally won't look to stay at this particular facility again. If you are there to be close to a boat launch with your RV or trailer for a fishing weekend, you might consider your options. This place shows in Rockaway Beach but it is actually in Wheeler. There's nothing wrong with Wheeler, but that might affect you if you expect beach access. This is marina access on the backwater with beach access requiring a trip by car. We camped at Paradise Cove Resort & Marina in a Motorhome.

Most of our preferences in eating establishments were in Nehalem. We're only talking a ten minute ride though. Try Wanda's, Ice Creams & Chowders, or Pizza Garden. They are all pretty good.

Bend / Sisters Garden RV Resort, Sisters, Oregon

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $54.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very nice park between Bend and Sisters, Oregon. People in this area do enjoy RVing during the fair weather months. That said, the whole supply and demand thing plays in. It isn't cheap or readily available in summer months. The grounds are very well maintained. The golf cart people pick up your bag of trash left at the edge of the road. On Tuesdays, you can wash off your RV without any severe limitations on water use or additional permission. This is a busy place, so reservations are recommended. We got in from Sunday to Friday with a few days notice. My only real criticism, aside from price, is the dog policy. You can't walk your dog in the park and allow it to use the grass or flowers on the side of the road to take care of business. I know that seems trifling but convincing the dog may be another matter entirely. There is a dog walk but it is covered with rock that doesn't look pleasant for 'bare paws'. Again, its my only major criticism and I can understand the park's policy to a point having had to deal with plenty of evidence and repercussion of laziness and nastiness while full-timing over the last three years or so. The park is nice and well located, ten minutes from Sisters and about 20-30 from most locations in Bend. We were in a site proximal to the highway and there was some noise but it wasn't really obtrusive. It was worst in the mornings when I imagine people were heading to work. There is a lake in the middle of the park which allows angling with some rules. It is catch and release and barbless hooks among other things. Overall, the view and scenery and general ambiance of the park are very relaxing. Would I stay here again? I would but likely not if acceptable accommodations for a better price were available. That said, here you get what you pay for. It is a higher than average price but it is a nicer than average park. We camped at Bend / Sisters Garden RV Resort in a Motorhome.
