Peter D's RV Park, Sheridan, Wyoming

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Basic and clean RV park, we stayed for one night on our way through town. We checked in after hours and the process was easy and quick, with our site clearly marked. Our gravel site wasn't level, but it was long enough to stay hitched up. We had a little trouble manuevering with our 38' RV and I can imagine it would have been a lot tighter if the park had been full. The park is close to the interstate but highway noise was minimal. Good park if you just need a quick overnight stay. We camped at Peter D's RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

West Glacier KOA, West Glacier, Montana

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $117.00
Overall Rating:

I wanted to love this park - from the outside, it's high class. The premium sites are spectacular - amazing landscaping, dining tables with unbrellas, grills and firepits, mountains in the background, just lovely. Then night came, and it's like park management left the premises. Out of the 4 nights we were there, only one night did we get a decent sleep due to the loud drunks partying, our neighbors who left their outdoor TV on loud and then left their RV, the steady stream of chain smokers, the kids running around shining flashlights into other RVs at night or running through the hedges and your patio while you're eating dinner. I could have gotten a better hotel room for the cost we paid. We talked with management about the noise after 10, who said they drove by nightly and didn't hear anything - which I find impossible due to the loud "whooping" until past 1 AM which you could hear from one end of the park to the other. We will be finding a different park next time we visit Glacier. If you want to smoke and party until dawn while your kids run feral, this is the park for you. We camped at West Glacier KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Billings KOA, Billings, Montana

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $83.00
Overall Rating:

This park was crazy. It probably didn't help that we arrived on a Saturday night for a one-night stopover. It took us longer to get to our site than to set up - the park has all their go kart rentals right at the check in area! The kids don't seem to care there are RVs pulling in, so you're trying to weave around 10-20 kids on karts, very poor design. The pool and the mini golf were phenomenal and there were tons of activities for the kids, including a huge playground. The sites themselves were level and well maintained, with plenty of room to stay hitched. This is definitely a destination resort - I would not recommend it for a one night stopover like we did, it was just too crazy busy with people. We camped at Billings KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Grand Island KOA, Doniphan, Nebraska

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for one night passing through. This was a very basic park - all dirt, with the sites super close to eachother. Thankfully it wasn't even close to full, because our neighbor's awning would have been touching our slides. The sites were level and long enough that we didn't have to unhitch. There is nothing nearby - it's surrounded by corn fields, which makes for a very quiet stay. The facilities were clean and the pool was a good size and in good shape. Definitely not a destination park but it was comfortable for a night. We camped at Grand Island KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Twin Fountains RV Park, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

This park would have received a 10 if it weren't for the road noise, which they really had no control over. We did an overnight stop on our way up north and the sites were tree-lined, level and long enough for us not to unhook our 38' fifth wheel. The concierge was friendly and incredibly helpful; we got a round of mini golf in after the storms passed through. The park has a thick row of trees separating the camp area from the highway but it wasn't enough - we were still woken up several times in the night by large trucks (even with earplugs and the AC fan on on high). Other than the road noise, this was an outstanding park and we would stay again for a night. We camped at Twin Fountains RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Custer State Park - Game Lodge Campground, Custer, South Dakota

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Huge spaces with amazing views, wildlife and tons of informative programs. Site was newly paved but not level, but long enough for our 38' FW and tow vehicle. Walking distance to the new visitors center, fishing/swimming pond and playground. The only drawback was no sewer or water, but we were fine with that. The location was easy access to nearby attractions (Badlands, Mt Rushmore), plus the Jeep tours and chuckwagon left from the Game Lodge area. The best place to camp to experience the black hills! We camped at Custer State Park - Game Lodge Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Yellowstone Holiday RV Campground & Marina, West Yellowstone, Montana

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $65.00
Overall Rating:

If I could give this park 25 stars, I would! Spacious sites, gravel but not level. Easy walk to the lake or well stocked store. The owners were incredibly friendly, the laundry and restrooms were immaculate. Truly a "camping in the wilderness" feel, with no road noise or noisy campers. The wifi was slow but we didn't need it. I can't recommend this park enough! We camped at Yellowstone Holiday RV Campground & Marina in a Fifth Wheel.

Guadalupe River State Park (GRSP), Spring Branch, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

Very quiet, wooded campsites. We were a little worried heading into the park with it being Spring Break, but we saw no problems - rangers and park hosts are constantly patrolling. The site lengths and widths vary considerably are are mixed with tent sites. We had to try several spots before finding one that would fit our 38' with slides, and even then we couldn't use our awning and the trees were just about on the roof. Our site was slightly unlevel but an easy fix. I would have given GRSP 10 stars if all the trails weren't closed due to recent rains - with cooler weather making swimming impossible, there wasn't much to do. We camped at Guadalupe River State Park (GRSP) in a Fifth Wheel.

Balmorhea State Park, Balmorhea, Texas

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here for one night at the end of a long road trip in order for the kids to enjoy the springs. Unfortunately, it was during monsoon season and the park had had a few days of rain prior to our visit. The campgrounds are very poorly drained - a good number of sites were completely flooded out, our picnic table was an island and our tow vehicle was parked in 6" of standing water. The tent campers were mixed in with RVers, and with the flooded roads, a lot of folks had to cut through RV sites just to access the restrooms. We attempted to use the restrooms but they always seemed to be closed for repairs. Electric and water at the site were fine, and the dump station had easy access. Pull through site was level and a good size, we did not have to unhook our tow vehicle. Overall, it's a great park to access the springs - I just feel it wasn't up to par with other Texas state parks we've camped at. We camped at Balmorhea State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Edgington RV Park, Alamogordo, New Mexico

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Basically a gravel parking lot with hookups. The water pressure was fine and we had good sewer and 50A service. No one was at the office when we arrived, we called and were told to pick a spot. Owner was super friendly. Getting in and out of this park was dicey with a bigger rig - we had a 38' and I would not recommend anything much larger, you have to weave through trees and permanent residents to exit. The absolute worst part was the road noise - even with the AC and earplugs, the drone of traffic, trains and sirens was constant. We will find a different park next time. We camped at Edgington RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Kartchner Caverns State Park, Benson, Arizona

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful gem of a park! We pretty much had the place to ourselves, only 2-3 other campers. We made a quick overnight stop on our way through in order to visit the caverns. Trail from the campground to the visitor's center is a paved and short walk. Site was slightly unlevel but an easy fix. Park was easy to navigate through. No campfires allowed except at a community fire pit. Park was quiet, except for some loud cows in the ranch next door. Would definitely stay here again. We camped at Kartchner Caverns State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Dead Horse Ranch State Park, Cottonwood, Arizona

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful park! Loved that you were able to choose your site. Very quiet, tons of critters (bunnies and bats galore), just a beautiful well kept park. Very close to Cottonwood, a cute little town. Spent 3 days at Coopers Hawk loop and we wish we could have spent longer. Only 2-3 other sites occupied while we were there, which was nice. We will definitely return if in the area again! We camped at Dead Horse Ranch State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Oasis Las Vegas RV Resort, Las Vegas, Nevada

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $47.00
Overall Rating:

Fantastic spot to stay in the Vegas area! Safety was our main concern, and you can't beat this place: fenced, 24-hr guarded gate, about 5-10 mins from the strip. The entrance could get backed up at times due to the guard checking in a new RV, but the wait was never too long. You do get substantial highway noise, but that was the only reason I didn't give it a 10. My kids loved the family pool, and the shop on site was excellent: good prices on the basics. Laundry was reasonable although the small AC in the laundry room did little to cool the desert heat. Super easy to navigate, even with a larger rig. We camped at Oasis Las Vegas RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, Kanab, Utah

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

As others have mentioned, these are 2 sites set quite a bit away from everything else in the park. Which makes them very quiet and secluded! The roads were easy to navigate with a larger rig, the site was level and the hook ups were easy. The only complicating issue was a handrail at the back of the pad. I don't know why it was there, but you had to make sure your rig was skirting the opposite edge of the pad if you had rear slides to deploy. The scenery was breathtaking but we didn't get to enjoy it as much as we had hoped due to the swarms of mosquitoes. We camped at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in a Fifth Wheel.

Portal RV Resort and Campground, Moab, Utah

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $59.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful RV park! We stayed on the resort side so we could have access to the pool. The resort sites are huge but not all are the same - we had a beautiful patio set with covered portico and nice landscaping, but I noticed some sites just had a bare picnic bench and nothing else. You can't reserve a specific site, so it's a matter of luck. Easy travel in the park, sites were level, water pressure is very high (note that they require you to have the water on all the way - you will need a pressure regulator). We did not try the swimming pond, never saw anyone in it but quite a few folks at the adjoining beach. The fishing pond was fun but the mosquitoes will eat you alive. Koi pond was beautiful with a fish food dispenser as well. Super convenient to town and Arches but quiet, great views. We camped at Portal RV Resort and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
