Burlingame State Park, Charlestown, Rhode Island

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This is a 750 site campground, but you only feel the size when you look at the map. If you look at the park on Google Earth you will just see trees, so expect shade. The sections are laid out with large fairly close campsites in the center, and a number of spread out sites on the perimeter tucked into the woods. In our loop, most sites pitched to the lake except the top row. Since this was designed for tents, most sites have a pitch to them, so leveling an RV can be a challenge. Our site had rocks and stumps to navigate, but we did OK. Burlingame is on a lake - East Beach (Ocean) is a short drive away. The first lot you come to (at East Beach) is owned by the town and is $20. The second lot is state owned and is a quarter mile down the dirt road and is $6. The reason for the low rating is that the state has kids all over the place in golf carts, but that is where they stay. This is primarily a tenter's campground, so the restrooms are used heavily. There are 6 restroom/shower buildings for the 750 sites so you can imagine the restrooms are used allot. Each restroom/shower has 2 stalls and 2 showers. Toilets are often plugged up, and you don't know which showers don't work till you plug in the coins. (you don't even know which shower you are turning on when you plug in the coins). We camped at Burlingame State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Allegany State Park / Red House Area, Salamanca, New York

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

This is a grand old CCC built park. Like so many state parks these days, It suffers from long term neglect. The showers and restrooms have pealing paint everywhere making them look dirty. Sites are fairly close together. Maps are not detailed enough to find water spigots (only two in the B loop). The lack of park staff in such a vast park is frustrating. Signage is just as bad as the maps. We had a family gathering at one of the picnic areas, All guests got lost. I noticed that HistoriCorp was working on some of the historic cabins. Maybe there is hope for this grand old gem. We camped at Allegany State Park / Red House Area in a Travel Trailer.

Bell Cow Lake & Equestrian Campground, Chandler, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed in Area C. Take The RT18 exit, then go north (about a half mile) to S890 on left. Small sign says Bell Cow Lake. Follow 890 to end. First off - showers are cold water only. They bring the Ditch Witch in every few days to clean/disinfect the restroom/showers. There are a half dozen sites that back toward the water. You could be next to a horse trailer, as all sites accept horses. We stayed Thursday/Friday and it was not crowded. We camped at Bell Cow Lake & Equestrian Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Old rt66 goes through Chandler. Pretty cool town. Rodeo comes to town a few times a year.
