Chester Frost Park, Hixson, Tennessee

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

If you are planning on camping at Chester Frost park, don't waste your time. Currently half the campground is closed for construction and the other half is almost impossible to get a spot! They do not accept reservations and won't give any information over the phone, other than "it's first come, first serve". The policy is to "check-in" at 12:01 midnight, in person, at a fishing pier and put your name on "the list". THEN you must come back at 7 AM and you must be present when they call your name, while you sit in a parking lot! I tried for 3 days to get a spot...all 3 days, the same people where there waiting in line at 7 AM with their folding chairs and coffee cups! (I was unable to go at midnight, because I live 30 minutes away, I have children and I like to be sleeping at midnight!!) Turns out these other folks in line at 7 AM, already had spots in the campground, so they only had to walk to over the fishing pier at midnight, then show up with their coffee and wait for a waterfront spot to open up! I had no chance of getting a spot! So, they suggest you wait until noon to see if anyone happens to check out. So I did, 3 days in a row...and NOTHING!! When I finally came home 5 hours later each day, I had to look at the sad faces of my children when I told them that no, I did not a camping spot this time. It's a shame their crazy policy makes it so difficult just to go camping!! The park rangers are not friendly at all. They even hand out a list of other campgrounds in the area and suggest you go somewhere else! We camped at Chester Frost Park in a Travel Trailer.

Jekyll Island Campground, Jekyll Island, Georgia

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful campground on Jekyll Island. Large sites for RVs. We camped in a tent, right across from the Bird Sanctuary. which was beautiful by day, but loud first thing in the morning. Staff was nice and friendly. Camp store was a little sparse, so get what you need before you come to the island. They sell firewood by the piece! A short bike ride to Driftwood Beach and the ocean. I plan to go back with my family and my trailer next time! We camped at Jekyll Island Campground in a Tent.
