Ocean View Cottages, Wells, Maine

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This was our first time camping in Maine and we were told by repeat visitors that the price and services are excellent considering the very high prices in Old Orchard and neighboring areas. From our experience elsewhere, the site assigned for our trailer was rather hard to access and we were worried about the tight path bordered by trees. With a lot of sweat and help from friends, we made it through and were able to park it. Great facilities with a beautiful view of the inlet and ocean In the far distance. Shuffle board and basketball courts were great for the kids. We had friends with us that rented the cottages (3 cottages in all). They were spacious but in need of upgrading, smell of mold and lack of a microwave or BBQ and cooking utensils made it difficult for meals. One cottage had mouse droppings in the drawers! Quiet hours are 24 hours; great if you like to sit around and not talk with your group, play music or have too much fun. Comment from the lady that greeted us regarding "Quebecers being noisy" upon our arrival and being informed that quiet hours applied at all times put a damper on our vacation. They may want to inform larger groups of travelers when booking that noise is not tolerated. We camped at Ocean View Cottages in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Groceries and restaurants within walking distance. There is shuttle bus service and a shuttle boat to get you to the nearby beaches. Parking at Wells Beach is extremely limited so the services are an advantage. Excellent lobster restaurant down the hill from the campground. Lots of traffic along route 1 to get to beaches and tourist spots like the outlets, take the freeway when you can!

Massena Intl Kampground, Massena, New York

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We have been camping here for about six years and return every year for two weeks. Over the years we have come to know the staff and enjoy chatting with them. The owner is in tune with her clientele and always suggests sites according to their needs. Along with a great crew of family and friends, the campground is kept immaculate. Regular meal weekends are offered and very popular. We love the river sites but settle well on just about any site. Even within close distance of one another, the staggered layout allows for privacy on the lots.

We love camping here and plan to continue for years to come! We camped at Massena Intl Kampground in a Travel Trailer.

Rideau Acres Campground, Kingston, Ontario

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

We camped at Rideau Acres several times over the past 5 years. Up until a few years ago we really appreciated the service and facilities. It has a large amount of seasonals and various types of campsites. In recent years there has been an increase in the number of sites but no increase in services (garbage collection, skunk control, cleaning of sites) which has caused us to camp elsewhere in the region. The check-in at the main entrance is hindered by a long line-up waiting to check-in and only one employee working inside the reception area, answering the phone and tending to guests. Their once well maintained park had become overrun with skunks which they refuse to control, telling campers that they are part of nature. As we have a dog, I no longer feel secure camping here. It is unfortunate as we had previously enjoyed our time camping at Rideau Acres and appreciated the amenities provided which was a plus (beach, waterfront, boat rentals, etc). We camped at Rideau Acres Campground in a Travel Trailer.
