Cajun Palms RV Resort, Breaux Bridge, Louisiana

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

This is a campground that some people will love and others will hate. If you want a place that has a lot of socializing opportunities and family oriented activities, you may like this. If you're looking for something quiet and woodsy, you probably won't. There's alot of focus on golf carts so it would indicate there is a regular crowd that stays here (but not permanently). Our review is based on an overnight stay, which we would do again if need be. The positives for this use is that there are a lot of sites so you probably can snag one, the sites are concrete and level. The bathrooms are spotless and they seem to have a lot of staff to keep things working and attend to you should you need something. While we didn't use the pool or rec hall, they sure looked impressive. There's beach volley ball and miniature golf, so I'm sure this is a popular spot for families with kids. The negatives are the before mentioned narrow streets and sites. You have a pretty normal amount of green space in between sites, but our site could not accommodate our 43' foot motorhome and tow and still be able to reach the sewer without our car sticking out in the road. While dog friendly, there is NO dog park and limited grass areas to walk your pet without being on someone's site. Besides the sewer proximity, probably the most frustrating thing was the water spigot is so low to the ground that it takes some gymnastics to connect. We camped at Cajun Palms RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Their normal reservation policy is for a 2-night minimum. We stayed in November when the park was nearly empty so they told us to just call the day before or day of. When we did, they didn't take a reservation and just said to come. Not sure how it is during their season.

Mystic Quarry Resort, Canyon Lake, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Like previous reviews, you can really see the effort the new owners have put into bringing this legacy campground up to modern standards. They've created a really nice vibe very appropriate for the area. There is a choice of sites in their "courtyard" which is more open or in the "campground" which has more trees. The dog park is terrific, there are activities and events almost every day and every employee we encountered was friendly and welcoming. There's a nice pool, bocce ball courts, a rec hall and even a "play" cattle roping for the kids to try. We'd definitely stay here again. We camped at Mystic Quarry Resort in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Terrific setting, well maintained, easy access to the lake. Sites are spacious and level. Waterfront sites have a great view. Playground, disc golf, model airplane flying field, boat ramp and 2 restaurants accessible to campers. Campground has security gate and on-site host. Only downside is there is no sewer at the site. Must use dump station A real gem. We'll be back! We camped at Georgia Veterans Memorial State Park in a Motorhome.

Don't let your GPS take you on Ferry Landing Road, stay on US 280 to the park entrance Cordelia's Restaurant on the grounds is terrific. Visit the on-site museum and for a fun day, ride the Sam Shortline train to Plains. Departs right from the park. The grocery at the Citgo station across the street from the park is excellent including a butcher shop with fresh meat. The Daphne Lodge about 1/2 mile away on US 280 is really good Try the cheese grits!

Leisure Acres Campground, Inc, Cleveland, Georgia

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

What a disappointment! After reading their website and reviews and talking with the friendly office representative, we didn't expect a muddy poorly maintained tired old park. Surprisingly near the more transient section of the park was an older permanent or semi-permanent trailer running a very loud generator all day long. Our pull through site was nearly on top of the more permanent older trailer next door with no room for a picnic table which had to be placed on the utility side of our motorhome. The neighbor's vehicles were nearly on top of us and there wouldn't have been room to put our our awning had we wanted to. The interior roads need a gravel refresh as they contain quite a bit of dirt & mud as did our site. After a rain it was very sloppy. There is no cable, our over-the-air antenna could only pick up a couple of UHF stations, the wifi was marginal. While it's a nice setting with a catch & release lake and convenient to Helen & Dahlonega, there is much work to be done and we won't be back. We've stayed at nearly 100 campgrounds in the past 3 years and this one is clearly at the bottom. We camped at Leisure Acres Campground, Inc in a Motorhome.

Pine Lake RV Campground, Bishop, Georgia

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This is a great little campground tucked in the woods just outside of Athens. The new owners (since Sept 2016) are noticeably continuing to invest in the facility which opened in 1986. This does not look like a 32-year old campground The staff couldn't have been nicer making extra effort to accommodate our date and motorhome size. While they are currently limited in the number of sites that can handle big rigs, they are developing 20 new sites that they said would be 40x100 feet and easily fit any size RV. Our site was level & clean and we really enjoyed the view of their lakes which have waterfalls and paths around them. The restrooms were spotless and the office area, while being quaint, is very up to date. We would definitely stay here again! We camped at Pine Lake RV Campground in a Motorhome.

Bluewater Key RV Resort, Key West, Florida

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $180.00
Overall Rating:

This was our second time staying here and we would stay again for the view, location and some of the amenities. Previous reviews are accurate about the quality of the sites (tiki huts etc), the helpfulness of the staff and the views on the bayside. They have recovered very well from Hurricane Irma and kudos are due to the staff. That said, having visited other "luxury" RV Resorts since our first visit here in 2014, we noticed one thing that comparatively, was a disappointment: The bathhouse is sorely in need of refurbishing. It is old and small and while probably cleaned regularly, doesn't feel that way. Hurricane refurbishment expenses aside, for what they charge, the owners and management need to step up and put some capital into this important amenity. With that, Bluewater would be a 10. We camped at Bluewater Key RV Resort in a Motorhome.

This far down in the keys there are no Walmarts or Targets. Key West has several grocery stores (including 2 Publix) and hardware and some national brand retail stores. If you need any "RV" supplies, you should get them before you get on the "Overseas Highway (US 1)".

Byrd's Branch Campground, Elkin, North Carolina

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

This is a small, rural campground in what appears to be family farmland. The owners are very nice and give you their cellphone if you need anything.

The office is across the road up on a hill. If you don't plan to unhook the tow and have called ahead for a reservation, ask for the space number and go ahead and park in it. Then walk up the hill to check in and pay.

We spent one night in one of their five level, gravel, FHU PTs. There are no amenities other than wifi and the rate reflects that. We were pleased with the value and stayed here instead of the nearby Walmart for a quick overnight en route. We camped at Byrd's Branch Campground in a Motorhome.

Hilton Head Harbor RV Resort & Marina, Hilton Head Island, South Carolina

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $64.00
Overall Rating:

As others have said, each site is privately owned so the amenities will vary. Some had water features and umbrellas and tables etc while others are very basic. The check in process is unique. They took no deposit and when we arrived, we got in a golf cart and drove around the entire park to pick out a site based on the availability sheet they gave us which is coordinated to your dates. While this was nice in that we could select our site, it made the check in process prolonged. There is only room for one or two RVs at the office, so another group on a caravan had RVs backed up onto the access road for nearly an hour. Luckily we arrived before that. There are a few sites right on the water and some have partial views through the trees and and across the street. All sites are back-ins. The marina is lovely, especially at sunset, but you cannot access without a boat owner or on a charter. The clubhouse is terrific for groups and there is even a separately owned 5-star restaurant on the grounds. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Nice pool and tennis courts. Good cable TV, wifi and AT&T signal. We camped at Hilton Head Harbor RV Resort & Marina in a Motorhome.

Excellent food and view from the Quarterdeck Restaurant under the iconic Sea Pines Lighthouse. Costs $6 to get into Sea Pines. Once in, you can access any of the restaurants or golf clubs. You don't have to be a resident or a member. Visit the Sea Pines GC clubhouse. It's like an art museum of golf. The Sea Pine Beach Club has a terrific beach and restaurant/bar. We ate at & enjoyed the Skull Creek Boathouse and the Old Oyster Factory which we'd recommend along with Hudsons.

Camping World Racing Resort (formerly Charlotte Motor Speedway CG), Concord, North Carolina

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

This is now called the "Camping World Racing Resort". We've stayed here 4 times now and we know what to expect. It is NOT a resort and unfortunately cheapens that term for campgrounds that really do offer resort amenities. Essentially a large parking gravel parking lot with no amenities (other than a small playground). This was built for the racetracks and if you are looking for a convenient place to base out of to visit Charlotte, this is the best choice. Convenient to town, the interstate and with plenty of restaurants and shopping nearby. If you're looking to "camp", there are other places a bit farther from Charlotte that are probably better choices. For the first time, however, we could not get level in our space and since it was right after the big Fall NASCAR race, the place needed some cleanup. That said, we'll stay here again the next time we come to Charlotte. WIFI is now available throughout and was adequate. No cable TV. AT&T signal excellent. The entry is a bit funky. If you're towing, turn right at the office and go up on the 2nd level blacktop road to park and check in. If you don't you will be on a road that dead ends and does not lead to the sites. If you do as I suggest, you won't have to unhook. We camped at Camping World Racing Resort (formerly Charlotte Motor Speedway CG) in a Motorhome.

Mayberry Campground, Mount Airy, North Carolina

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This would have been a pretty good overnight stay for the money as the site was level and the electric and water were fine. Wifi was spotty and the AT&T coverage was acceptable and we had no problem getting a satellite signal. The setting is scenic with nice view down the hillside. What brought down our experience's rating was the gross bathroom adjacent to the office (only one we could find) and the maggots crawling on the dumpster. While we probably won't come through this area again, I would say that the above issue is probably isolated and for a quick overnight stay, this would be acceptable (especially if you have PA). We camped at Mayberry Campground in a Motorhome.

Mt. Airy is a great little town to visit, especially if you are an Andy Griffith Show fan. Wally's Service Station is next to the "Courthouse". Both are worth a stop. You can take a guided tour of the town in one of the "Sheriff Andy" police cars. Downtown Mt. Airy's 3-4 blocks should be walked. Try some of the homemade pies (and other bakery items) at "Miss Angel's Heavenly Pies" Some have "moonshine" added to them.

Americamps RV Resort, Ashland, Virginia

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $53.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very professionally run campground that we really enjoyed. Convenient to Richmond. The only downside is it IS RIGHT ON THE INTERSTATE. While the noise inside our coach was very minimal, you will know the road's proximity as soon as you step out. Didn't take advantage of the free breakfast as the line was pretty long. The waffles are cooked to order and it was a weekend. Good WIFI. The B Row is very satellite friendly and our AT&T signal was full. The sites are pretty close to one another but no issue with slides. We camped at Americamps RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Philadelphia South / Clarksboro KOA, Clarksboro, New Jersey

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

There aren't too many options to visit Philadelphia. This seemed like the best option. The new owners are investing in this older campground and have already installed about 10 new gravel sites and we observed another 10 or so under construction. Would recommend you request one of these sites. While there is no shade, they are plenty wide, you'll get satellite reception and there's even extra area to park your tow car adjacent to your RV. The older sites are very tight and tree covered. We stayed one night in site 4 and then moved to 102 which we loved. By next Spring I would imagine the new sites and the typical KOA amenities will all be in place and we'd stay here again. Cable was adequate (although not yet installed in the new sites), Wifi was good and AT&T service was excellent. We camped at Philadelphia South / Clarksboro KOA in a Motorhome.

Normandy Farms, Foxboro, Massachusetts

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $78.00
Overall Rating:

This is a most outstanding campground. If the majority of other campgrounds were 1/2 as nice, the industry would have an entire different perception. This is one of the relatively few places that truly can call themselves a camping "resort". As other reviews have shared, the people, facilities, activities and amenities are matched by few. They even have a "concierge" on staff who we observed being very detailed and helpful to a couple looking for customized itinerary in the area. We typically use a campground as a place to park and base from to explore the area. We found ourselves not wanting to leave during the day and instead enjoy the facility. Next time we will stay longer to do both. The location is ideal for visiting Cape Cod, Rhode Island and greater Boston. Love their fire pits that are banked against giant boulders to push the heat towards you and protect the neighboring site. As soon as RV departs, team members come and put out the embers, rake the fire pit and clean it up for the next guest. Even Disney doesn't do that. Some of the sites have pretty good shade that will interfere with satellite so inquire about that if you want to use your dish. We camped at Normandy Farms in a Motorhome.

Shore Hills Campground and RV Park, Boothbay, Maine

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $53.00
Overall Rating:

Like others confirm, this CG has a nice old time feel to it. Mostly because it is. We would stay here again, partly because it was nice and convenient and partly because there aren't many choices near Boothbay. We couldn't get our 43-foot MH level on site 124 but the owners moved us to 120 which was excellent and even had a new concrete patio. We did see several back in sites that were not level and occupants had to use wood or pads to level. The sites are fairly close together but have trashcans at each end. Water, electric and sewer were just fine. You can only pay by check or cash and when you call, you will be told to mail a deposit check of $50. We were told our reservation will be held until the check arrives. Once they received the check, they emailed us a confirmation. There is $10 deposit for gate card. Bath houses are old but clean. Didn't use but saw there was a fee for shower. Cable was excellent, the wifi was good and our AT&T service was too. A staff member continuously rides through the campground on a golf cart. Got the impression he is a "monitor" of activity, open spaces and any potential rule breakers. We did get a note on our MH for exceeding the 10 MPH speed limit one day, but that kind of added to the charm. The "upper sites" are pretty wide open from trees for good satellite reception, plenty long, but the sites closest to the road definitely have noise as it is the only direct route in and out of Boothbay. We camped at Shore Hills Campground and RV Park in a Motorhome.

"Shannon's Unshelled" is terrific little Lobster Roll shack adjacent the public parking lot in Boothbay. Shannon & her Mom make a roll that is as good or better than Red's in Wiscasset, which you will see on your way to Boothbay, along with their typical hour long wait line. Also, the Wicked Woopie Pie store is a unique Maine treat. Try the oatmeal ones! Pemaquid Point Lighthouse is about 45 minutes north and one of the very few you can actually go in and climb to the steps to the top.

Lake Champagne Campground, Randolph Center, Vermont

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Our overall thoughts mirror RobS80. A few more comments: The wide open view rates excellent and was the best part for us. If you have a dog or kids, they will love running a playing in the big fields. There lots of amenities spread out over their property. We would definitely stay here again. The reasons we rated this just "Very Good" are minor but important if you are in the top row of sites. The tall pine trees that provide screening and shade also block satellite reception due to their height. Also the PTs are grass and the exit from your space is on to the slightly sloping grassy hillside. Not a problem for us, but certainly an odd egress. One other minor surprise was that the new owners have moved in to what was office and the clubhouse had their classic car parked in it. The lady who checked us in couldn't have been nicer but somewhat clueless about things such as where the boathouses and dumpsters were located. The nearest bath house was far enough away that either we had to drive our car to it or take a healthy walk. Also a bit funky in that there is only a cloth material separating the mens & womens from the laundry which is located in between (in other words, no interior doors between the laundry and restrooms). The wifi was excellent and AT&T coverage was sufficient. Hopefully the new owners (who we never saw over 5 days) will invest in the property as it is a terrific piece of land that can have much more done to enhance it even more. We camped at Lake Champagne Campground in a Motorhome.
