Lake Louisa State Park, Clermont, Florida

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

Only stayed one night on our way back home but would like to have stayed longer. Campground is located about three miles in from the entrance so no road noise. Paved roads throughout with crushed gravel/shell sites. Typical of Florida State Parks sites are large and spaced far apart with trees and bushes for privacy and the feeling of being in the woods. Water and electric well placed. OTA channels available and good Verizon cell phone. Very clean restrooms and showers. Canoe, kayak and bike rentals available. Site had picnic table and fire ring. We would camp here again if in the area. We camped at Lake Louisa State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Ortona South COE, Moore Haven, Florida

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very neat, organized and well maintained COE campground. Interior roads are wide and paved. Each site is paved up to a level concrete pad for your camper. There is a large gravel area with a covered picnic table and fire ring. Ample room between sites and plenty of room for slide outs and awnings. There are some trees and bushes between some of the sites but most are not shaded. Our site had some shade on one side. Utilities well placed and no problems were encountered even though the park was full most of the time and everyone was using their A/C. Restrooms and showers were kept clean. Since this campground is in a remote area there are not many activities other than fishing, relaxing and watching boats pass thru the locks unless you drive about an hour or so. We would camp here again if we were in the area. We camped at Ortona South COE in a Travel Trailer.

St. Petersburg / Madeira Beach KOA, St. Petersburg, Florida

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $51.00
Overall Rating:

We have stayed at this campground several times while visiting family and friends and each time we notice improvements they are making. This past year they reworked their utility connections in a large portion of the park so they are now on the proper side and sites don't share a pedestal. Many sites have new 20, 30, 50 amp pedestals with new water and cable hook up and relocated sewer connections. They have added an exercise area with equipment in the building near the pool along with new fencing around the playground. There is new patio furniture around the nice pool area and they recently completely renovated the restrooms by the pool. Staff has always been friendly and helpful. They do a good job keeping the park and facilities clean even during busy times. Trash picked up at your site. Fire pit and wood delivered to you. Well stocked camp store. There are some negatives. This is an older park so the pavement is worn and sites will require leveling. Typical of KOA sites are close together. Although it doesn't bother us it can get busy with families and kids on the weekends so just expect it. Overall the location for exploring the area and the beaches is great. Plenty of places to eat at and shop nearby. Given the limited choice of campgrounds in this area we find this one meets our needs the best. We camped at St. Petersburg / Madeira Beach KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Silver Springs State Park (formerly Silver River State Park), Ocala, Florida

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

This is a really nice state park. Check in was easy and the staff friendly and helpful. Interior roads paved and easy to navigate. Our site was a pull through and was very long and wide and required only a little leveling.. Lots of space between sites with trees and brush for shade and some privacy. Each site cleaned by camp hosts before they let the next camper in. Restrooms were kept clean and though they are not airconditioned they do have ceiling fans. Water and electric well placed and no issues. Several OTA channels available. We would stay here again if in the area. We camped at Silver Springs State Park (formerly Silver River State Park) in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

While staying here be sure to go over to Silver Springs and go on the glass bottom boats. Also rent a kayak or canoe and do some exploring on the river. There is a small cafe with good burgers and sandwhiches and an ice cream shop inside Silver Springs. This is the old Florida adventure before Disney and Universal.

I-75 RV Park, Tifton, Georgia

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed one night on our way south. Called ahead and the friendly owner met us and showed us to our site. Interior roads dusty, site was gravel and level no need to disconnect. Utilities well placed and did not encounter any problems. Easy access off and onto I75 although a bit of road noise at night because you are so close. Restroom could have been a bit cleaner. Waffle King within walking distance across the street. Would probably try another place if in the area again. We camped at I-75 RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Fort Chiswell RV Park, Max Meadows, Virginia

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed at this park several years ago, liked it and decided to stay again. Called while on the road to get a site. They have expanded the park out into the field in the front of the park since our last stay and we were placed in the new section. This area does not have any trees like the rest of the park. Site was a pull-thru as most are and required a little leveling. Utilities are well placed and no issues with water or electric even though the park was almost full. However at this site the septic connection was well above ground level, unlike the others, which made draining the tanks difficult. Wi-fi worked okay. Nice pool. There is only one restroom and shower building for the entire park so it is a bit of a walk from the new section if you want to use their facilities. The restrooms and showers are kept very clean though. The park is surrounded by fields and farmland with cows. Good place to stop for a night or two on your way north or south. We would camp here again. We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Twin Bridge Meadow Family Campground, Chambersburg, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Choices for campgrounds in this area are few. Needed a place for one night and this fit the bill. Campground is a bit of a drive from the highway thru town. Check in at the office, which is near the house and barn, was easy and the man at the desk friendly. Our site was in an open grass field that looked liked it was used more for rallies. Utilities at this site were on the wrong side which made for a awkward parking position. There are sites along the river that have trees and are more like a campground. Lots of families and kids having fun in that section. Restrooms and showers are basic and could have been cleaner. Okay place for a night stay. As I said before choices in this area are few. Would probably continue on or stop earlier somewhere else next time. We camped at Twin Bridge Meadow Family Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground, Swannanoa, North Carolina

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very nice park. We were only there for one night on our way north but wish we could have stayed longer. Check in was quick and easy, staff friendly and we were escorted to our site. You are in the mountains so the interior roads are a bit steep but not a problem. We were in the lower section so our pull-thru site was terraced into the slope. The site we had was nicely graveled and did not require leveling. Plenty of space and lots of trees and native flora. There was a table, fire ring and the utilities and septic were well placed and no issues with electric. Cell phone and wifi worked well. The restrooms and showers are the cleanest we have encountered. The showers are separate little rooms across the hall from the restrooms. Our rate was with Good Sam discount. We would most definitely stay here again if in the area. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Fairview Riverside State Park, Madisonville, Louisiana

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very nice state park. Check in was quick and easy. Interior roads and sites are paved although a bit narrow. Our site and others were just wide enough for the rvs and the road width made it a little tricky backing in without going off the pavement. Water and electric worked well and were in good location. Nice grassy space between sites with tall pine and oak trees for some shade. Some OTA channels available and wifi worked well. Restrooms were clean and had the sink, shower and toilet together in a room. We would camp here again if in the area. We camped at Fairview Riverside State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Pensacola RV Park, Pensacola, Florida

Overall Rating:

We only stayed one night while traveling through Pensacola. Arrived a little late but the man in the office was very nice. Check in was easy, he escorted us to our site and waited to be sure everything was satisfactory. Interior roads and sites are all well graveled. Our site was level and utilities worked well. Park is very clean and well kept. Each site has a picnic table on a concrete slab covered with pavers. Plenty of grass space between sites. Restrooms were clean. Park is in a good location for exploring Pensacola. We would camp here again if in the area. We camped at Pensacola RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Wills Creek RV Park, Fort Payne, Alabama

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed one night on our way home. The park is a little off the highway but easy to find and no road noise. The woman in the office was very nice and friendly even though we arrived a little late in the evening. Interior roads and sites are gravel. We were able to choose our site as we drove thru. Site was level, hookups were in good location and utilities worked well. All sites FHU. No cable or OTA channels and wifi only works near the office but that wasn't important for one night. Adequate space between sites with grass and small trees. Restroom and showers were a little walk from the campsite but were very clean. Would camp here again if in the area. We camped at Wills Creek RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Davis Bayou Campground, Ocean Springs, Mississippi

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $11.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed at this park for one night on our return trip home. Did not have a reservation but were able to get a site as they were not very busy. Reservations, if possible, would be best as this is a small park. Check in was easy and rate reflects Golden Age discount. Roads and sites are paved, needed a little leveling. Water and electric only, dump station available. Restroom and showers very clean. Utilities worked well. Good campground to use as a base to explore the area. Would camp here again if in the area. Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

Nice family owned park. Check in was easy and we were even given a little welcome bag with candy, crackers and a newspaper in it. Escorted to our site by the husband who made sure everything was good before he left. Interior roads are paved. Although this campground is on the side of a hill the sites are terraced and level. Plenty of room between sites. Among the nicest and cleanest restrooms and showers we've encountered in our travels. Wi-Fi worked well and plenty of cable tv channels. Would stay again if in the area. Western Village RV Park, Carlisle, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed one night on our way home. Check in was quick and easy. Pleasant staff. The site we were given was actually two sites that back up to one another but they had us use it as a pull thru. This made the connections a bit awkward. Large, active family park with plenty for the kids to do and good location to explore the area. Interior roads good. Had to disconnect to level front to back. Nice clean restrooms. Wi-Fi and Verizon worked well. We camped at Western Village RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Spent one night on our way home. Small family owned campground with a bit of an odd layout. Nice owner that cares about his property. Call for reservation and he will give you directions and not have you rely on GPS. Interior roads good. Site was level. No shade at our site but others are in wooded area.
