Catherine's Landing, Hot Springs, Arkansas

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $63.00
Overall Rating:

This is an incredible, luxurious campground. The sites are spacious and level. Amenities abound everywhere: the pool, the lake, the indoor spaces, the pavilion are all A+! The bathhouses were as nice as a luxury hotel. The staff were all friendly and helpful. This is a premium experience in every regard. The route to get to the park takes you through a residential area, but fear not the signs will lead you to the entrance. We had full LTE cell service (AT&T) and the wi-fi was good also. We would definitely stay here again and would look to get a waterfront site. We stayed one night in site #92, a pull thru site with full hook ups. We camped at Catherine's Landing in a Travel Trailer.

Nolin Lake State Park, Bee Spring, Kentucky

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed 2 nights in site #25, an easy back-in site with W/E right on the water. This park is far enough off the beaten path that I would not recommend it for a one night stop if passing thru on the interstate. We were there to visit Mammoth Cave NP so it worked out for us---although please note that the entrance to the national park is all the way around on the southeast portion of the NP so plan 45 minutes to get there. Stop at the campground attendant booth to get a map with the best route to the visitor's center---do NOT go by google maps. We had no cell service but did pick up 2 OTA TV channels. The bath houses were just okay. This is a pretty park with very nice sites right on the water. We would recommend this as a relaxing getaway. We camped at Nolin Lake State Park in a Travel Trailer.

The bank fishing looks good, but couldn't get any bites. The park ranger told me that you need a boat to get where you can catch much.

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $51.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed 2 nights in site #605, a back-in site with W/E/S/C. Very easy in and out. This is a tidy campground with good attention to detail. The bathhouse was nice and close to our campsite. Pool was very nice. We had full LTE cell service (AT&T) and the wi-fi was good. The national park is only about 20 mins away. We would happily stay here again. Four Mile Creek State Park, Youngstown, New York

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed 2 nights in site #232 a back-in site with E/W hook ups. This is a very spacious, grassy site which backs up to the lake, but the bushes are quite grown up so you don't get much of a view. Also, the water connection is 50-60 feet away, so we used water from our tanks. Check on this before you unhook. We only had Canadian cell service at our site, but if we went to the front check-in area we could get US 4G service (AT&T). The hot water didn't work at one shower but did at the next one I tried. Overall, this park was fine but not spectacular for visiting the Niagra Falls area which is about 20-30 mins away. We camped at Four Mile Creek State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Rollins Pond Campground, Saranac Lake, New York

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

This is NOT a campground for anything but the smallest trailers or pop ups or tents. If you do not have first hand knowledge of the layout of your site, I would not stay here. This was by far the tightest spot I've ever had to get into: narrow road with huge rocks in front then I had to weave the trailer through 4 narrow trees to get into the site. This was with a 31' travel trailer that the website says could be accommodated. The campground itself is scenic, right on the beautiful lake. But this place is really meant for tent campers and small rigs. You have to go through Fish Pond CG for 2+ miles before you get to Rollins Pond CG. Fish Pond was designed for trailers and nearly all the sites are on the water. I would stay there instead. We stayed 2 nights in sight #247, a back-in site with no hook ups. The pristine lake was only 10 paces away from the trailer. It is great for canoeing or kayaking, which you can rent and they will deliver to your site. We had very limited cell service (4G AT&T) and no wi-fi. The bath house had no hot water. We camped at Rollins Pond Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Lake Champagne Campground, Randolph Center, Vermont

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed in site #A8, a pull-thru with W/E/S/C. This site was just okay; there are ones with better views closer to the lake. Ours was all grass and very soft from recent rains, which we didn't care for. Their wi-fi was good and we had full LTE cell service (AT&T). There is a nice clear lake for swimming and fishing. The campground was fine, but to be honest, this is not at all a resort (listed in the official name) and the lake is small and sort of an afterthought. We were a little disappointed. We camped at Lake Champagne Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Fransted Family Campground, Franconia, New Hampshire

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $51.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed 2 nights in site #T8, a pull thru with W/E/S/C. They are indeed very stringent with the rules. This is a very neat and pretty campground with large grassy areas for the kids to play. The hook ups for our site were arranged a little oddly, but doable with extensions for the sewer and water hoses. There is a nice mountain stream perfect for relaxing in or for the kids to do some gentle tubing in. Their wi-fi was fine and we had full LTE cell service with AT&T. We camped at Fransted Family Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Blackwoods Campground (NPS Campground), Acadia National Park, Maine

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed 4 nights in site #A80, pull-thru site with no hookups that's fairly tight to get into, but doable. There is a bathroom a short walk away (toilets and sink but no showers). Pay showers are available 5 minutes away outside the park. They were just okay. The campground itself is right off the main road and convenient to all that the island offers. It is clean, very woodsy, and the shuttles stop in the campground. We had full LTE (AT&T). If you can get by with no hookups, this is a good, centrally located, inexpensive place to stay. We camped at Blackwoods Campground (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

Normandy Farms, Foxboro, Massachusetts

Overall Rating:

We stayed 3 nights in site T-3, a back-in site with W/E/C. Loved this site: spacious and a very easy in-and-out. This is a gorgeous campground. Tons of amenities and activities for the whole family. Super nice, helpful staff. You could easily have a great stay here and never leave the campground, but historic Boston is 1.5 hours away as is Cape Cod. Good internet, full cell service via AT&T. Definitely lives up to its reputation and excellent reviews. We would gladly stay here again. We camped at Normandy Farms in a Travel Trailer.

Melville Pond Campground, Portsmouth, Rhode Island

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $65.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed one night in site #218, a back-in site with W/E/S. The roads aren't overly tight but the way they are laid out and where the trees are, this site is more of a pain to get into than it should be. The spot itself is fine. Note that despite what their website says, ALL of their sites have full hook ups. This isn't a fancy park, but clean and fine for passing through. Bathhouses, laundry, and grounds were all clean. Their internet was excellent. We had full LTE cell service (AT&T). The signage on the way in leaves you hanging, but we figured it out anyways. It brings you in along a long bumpy road. Google Map's directions, on the other hand, takes you by a school, but it brings you to the campground with only a little of the bumpy dirt road. This is what I'd recommend. We camped at Melville Pond Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Hammonasset Beach State Park, Madison, Connecticut

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $54.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed one night in site BR-I (Beach Road-letter I) a W/E site with a view of the beach which was a 5 minute walk away. The site was a wide open, large grassy area, but the road to it is one lane and dead ends, leaving you no room to back in or even turn around. Thankfully, the site beside ours was vacant so I could drive through it to position our trailer. We've stayed all over the country but never where the hook-ups were positioned so that we had to park parallel to the road. We managed, but it would have been much easier with a legitimate cul-de-sac at the end of the road and/or an actual two-lane road to allow room to maneuver your rig. The park itself and the beach were very nice and clean. Even though it was busy it did not feel crowded. No wi-fi, but we had full cell service (AT&T) and many OTA TV channels. If we stayed here again, I would avoid the Beach Road sites and look to stay closer to the beach itself with easier in-and-out. We camped at Hammonasset Beach State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Campus Park & Ride, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $56.00
Overall Rating:

First, have your expectations set appropriately before you arrive: this is a parking lot in an industrial area of the city. The purpose of staying here is to be close to the attractions in downtown Philly. It fulfills that purpose just fine. Security is very good. They do have wi-fi but it only works closer to the office (towards the front where you come in) and we were parked at the far end. The guy who runs the place is super friendly as are the shuttle drivers. One thing to be aware of: the hookups will all be at the very rear of your trailer, so plan your hoses and cords accordingly. We stayed 2 nights in site #25-26 with E/W. We would stay here again if we were wanting to see downtown Philly. We camped at Campus Park & Ride in a Travel Trailer.

When you exit off the interstate, be prepared for a quick right turn! We took the shuttle to the hospital and then uber-ed from there: $3 and 5 mins to the visitor's center. Get your tickets for Independence Hall, see the Liberty Bell, Ben Franklin's grave, Christ Church, Betsy Ross house (it's ok). Catch an uber to Reading Terminal and enjoy all the food offerings. An uber from Reading Terminal back to Campus Park & Ride was $15-20.

Hersheypark Camping Resort (formerly Hershey Highmeadow Campground), Hummelstown, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $69.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed 2 nights in site #129, a back in site along the river with E/W. There are plenty of trailers throughout this park, but the roads to get to (and more importantly, INTO) our site are very narrow. We were able to get into the site, but we had to come in from the opposite direction as instructed to have enough room to back in. The site itself was spacious and close to the river. However, we were there to visit the amusement park (which is excellent!), not stay in the campground all day, so it was fine. Kudos to them for providing excellent wifi both in terms of speed and connectivity. We also had full LTE cell service (AT&T). The bath house and laundry (w/ 6 washers and dryers) were clean. There is an easy shuttle from the front of the campground to the front of the amusement park. We would recommend staying here for visiting the attractions. However, be prepared to work to get into your site. We camped at Hersheypark Camping Resort (formerly Hershey Highmeadow Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

Cherry Hill Park, College Park, Maryland

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $72.00
Overall Rating:

This park is an absolute 10! Yes it costs more, but the amenities, level of care, and location make it very much worth it. Even if you never ventured into the city, this would still be a top notch park. But when you couple it with the proximity of DC and the fairly convenient public transportation, it is a home run. We stayed 3 nights in site #1416 (loved this location) a back-in site with full hook ups plus cable (100 channels). The spots are a little close but were fine. The park is immaculate and the staff very friendly. We had good wi-fi and full cell coverage. 3-4 days is not nearly enough to do DC, but we did our best. We'd love to return for more of DC and Cherry Hill. We camped at Cherry Hill Park in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed 5 nights in site #24, a back-in site with full hook ups. This is a beautiful spot of land along the river and the grounds are kept up very nicely. There was no wi-fi (ugh) but we did have full LTE cell service (AT&T). We did not try the satellite, but with such clear views of the sky it would have worked no problem.
