Albuquerque Central KOA, Albuquerque, New Mexico

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

This has to be one of the nicest KOA campgrounds we've seen in our 25+ years of camping. This is the one which should set the bar for all the others. While it's just feet from I-40, a tall cement wall attenuates the highway sounds considerably. Staff were welcoming and smiling. The campground was exceptionally clean. TV and Internet were both very good. The only drawback is that it's under the airport flightpath but flights didn't appear to be too late into the evening. We camped at Albuquerque Central KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Spanish Trail RV Park & Campground, Moab, Utah

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

While this campground is directly adjacent to highway 191, it does provide lovely tree cover. It appears to be under new ownership and well maintained. The pull-through sites are not quite long enough so that you park your tow vehicle behind along side your unit, different. Showers were clean as was laundry room. Pet area was really nice with a walkway around the outside perimeter at one end of the campground and a fenced off-leash area. We camped at Spanish Trail RV Park & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Twin Peaks Campground (NPS Campground), Ajo, Arizona

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

Nice campground with all pull-through sites for RVs up to 40 feet. Level and large cement pads are great with decent space between sites. Designated no-generator and generator use zones as well as tent only zones. Highway 85 can be heard from campground though throughout the daytime hours. Nice walking trail around campground and another to visitor centre. If you're a dog owner these are only two immediate trails where dogs are permitted. Washrooms cleaned once daily and shower stall available only in three washrooms. Evening programs by rangers are worthwhile. Free wifi at visitor centre and day programs as well. Sign-up shuttle tours available leaving from campground. We camped at Twin Peaks Campground (NPS Campground) in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Aho Mountain drive is a beautiful 21 mile drive with great views. Alamo Canyon was a disappointment as there is no parking at end of three mile drive to trailhead. Hwy 85 is nuts at 65 MPH through a National Monument with thick desert growth up to road edge, signed wildlife corridors, and weekend warriors enroute to Mexico.

Rock Hound State Park, Deming, New Mexico

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

This beautiful NM State Park is but a short distance off of Interstate # 10 and the city of Deming, NM. It's tucked up a mountain side facing south west for beautiful sunsets. The washrooms are among the best we've seen for state parks and the campground hosts are superbly welcoming and helpful. In fact, we've observed them escorting everyone to their site during our 5 day visit. As we didn't reserve, we feel plenty lucky to have obtained a non-serviced site and were more than content at $ 10.00 / night and didn't feel we needed to "upgrade" to a serviced site at $ 14.00 / night. In fact, our pull-thru site had to be the largest we've ever camped in at any paid campground. The area hiking is easy enough and affords wonderful views of the Florida Mountains to the east, south, and west. We wouldn't hesitate coming back here again. We camped at Rock Hound State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Victoria Palms Resort, Donna, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2017 - $8.00
Overall Rating:

Booked here for a week and upon arrival we were offered to stay for a month for $249. Needless to say we bit on the offer. Friendly staff as well as permanent residents. Grounds are well kept with citrus and palm trees throughout. Lots of activities for those who want to participate. Mailroom service for monthly guests. Decent Internet via cable modem for $100 refundable deposit. Worthwhile as park wifi crawls at snails pace during peak hours. Only gripe is security detail can be heard driving around in motorized golf cart by our site every night with our trailer windows open. Definitely a lovely park nonetheless and worth returning. We camped at Victoria Palms Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Malaquite Campground, Corpus Christi, Texas

Date of Stay: January, 2017 - $8.00
Overall Rating:

48 site campground is essentially a paved street along side the dunes at a mere 50 yards from the beach. Wind and fog are prevalent at this time of year. Generators are permitted however, some take that to include construction generators which they operate the entire day while they're away sightseeing. Showers are cold water only and clean but NPS could improve them by installing some hooks for towel and clothes. Dump station and potable water adjacent to campground upon entry. NPS could put a trash bin here to assist campers. By and large this is a beautiful place to visit for such a reasonable rate. We camped at Malaquite Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Mustang Island State Park, Port Aransas, Texas

Date of Stay: December, 2016 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Open area campground situated between Texas Highway 361 and Gulf shoreline of Mustang Island. Additional park entry fee of $ 10.00 / day required or purchase of $ 70 annual pass. This entry fee should be waived if camping, as in most other jurisdictions. Staff appear to provide the minimum when asked questions and aren't overly helpful. It's not hard work to be a human being. Site had to be cleaned up of cigarette butts, dog feces and assorted plastics, etc. 50 Amp service at decent quality pedestal including water tap. As other reviewers have noted, it's a short walking distance to beach area and you cannot see the beach and shore from the campground due to the dunes. We camped at Mustang Island State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Travelers World RV Resort, San Antonio, Texas

Date of Stay: December, 2016 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

Lovely park among mature trees in a metropolitan area. You obviously can expect to hear sirens, trains and planes. Inside roads appeared to have recently been blacktopped, all gravel sites appeared to be level as was ours, and service outlets in very good state of repair. Spacing between pull-thru sites provided 20 foot lawn area before next site which was very nice. All grounds were beautiful. Wifi signal was strong and decent speed for surfing the web. Hot tub was clean as was pool. One of the men's showers had lever which couldn't provide hot water but wife said no problem on women's side. Full-time residents appeared friendly and their sites were well kept. Service was welcoming although, don't see the need to provide full mailing address with email when making phone reservation, as this can be provided in person upon arrival. Chose to stay at this park based on reviews of others and wasn't disappointed. Would definitely stay here again. We camped at Travelers World RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Amistad National Recreation Area -- 277 North Campground, Del Rio, Texas

Date of Stay: December, 2016 - $4.00
Overall Rating:

You get what you pay for at $ 4.00 adjacent to a highway with planes flying overhead and trash scattered in the trees. For a federal recreation area this doesn't impress. When we stopped at the visitor centre two minutes after closing time and were reminded of the hour by the ranger this also didn't impress. At least the site was level and we didn't have to unhook our 5th wheel trailer and left the next morning. We camped at Amistad National Recreation Area -- 277 North Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Rio Grande Village Campground--No Hookups (NPS Campground), Big Bend National Park, Texas

Date of Stay: December, 2016 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is literally a few hundred yards from the Rio Grande and Mexico. So close that Mexicans from Boquillas Del Carmen leave crafts and walking sticks for sale on hiking / walking trails. We thoroughly enjoyed the sunsets and night sky viewing in the campground. When we reserved online through recreation.gov, we selected a spot in the no-generator section which was described as being 45 feet in length. Upon arrival this site couldn't accommodate our 30 foot 5th wheel as the tree limbs were much too low for any RV. Luckily, plenty of availability in the first come - first served sites. Recommend not reserving in the no-generator sites which are too shaded for solar panel use (counter intuitive). We camped at Rio Grande Village Campground--No Hookups (NPS Campground) in a Fifth Wheel.

Wifi, coin-operated showers, propane, gas, diesel available at store adjacent to RV campground a 1/4 mile away.

Park is large (75 miles east to west) so plan to stay at least three days to see and do all there is available. Obey speed limits as they're enforced and there's lots of wildlife (deer, coyotes, etc).

Appears to be a former KOA campground and they even escort you to your site. Appeared clean and tidy in public areas. Our site had a dozen cigarette butts on the gravel pad. Red Barn RV Park, Roswell, New Mexico

Date of Stay: December, 2016 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

Nice little privately owned campground with a home-like feeling close to Roswell's tourists sites. Rate was 50+ discount of 10% for 50 Amp back-in full-service site. Only 15 sites in this campground and only about five appeared to be for drop-in / reservations camping and others were long-term campers. Host provided us tips on area sites and dining recommendations. Close proximity to highway however not too loud to be considered annoying. Cable box required to use cable, we had over a dozen over-the-air channels with HD antenna. We would return here without hesitation. We camped at Red Barn RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Ideally situated adjacent to the Queen Mine and above open quarry which provides views of the town and copper tinged hills.
