Midway Campground Resort (formerly Statesville East I-40 Winston-Salem, Statesville, North Carolina

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

First off, this place is not Big Rig friendly. Internal roads are narrow and washed out gravel with major ruts that look like they haven't been attended to in a long time. Lomg term guests park in the roadway making it impossible to pass them until you ask them to move. Management needs to enforce some common sense on what they allow folks to get away with. I will say that the staff was very friendly when checking in. The term "Resort" is a carryover from when it was a KOA in that they have a pool, playground, etc., but it's not what I would consider a resort. I do not know how Good Sam came up with the rating they have on their site, but they obviously haven't been there. Our site was one of a very few that was fairly level. This park has potential and if the roads and sites were attended to it would go a long way towards getting better reviews. We camped at Midway Campground Resort (formerly Statesville East I-40 Winston-Salem in a Motorhome.

Flagstaff KOA, Flagstaff, Arizona

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $54.00
Overall Rating:

Reservation email said I have a pull through in the back of the park. Arrived and was told they are all full. Assigned a pull through right by the entrance and road. Couldn't get level without significant blocking up wheels. Not a happy camper. Asked to be moved to a level site and was told all are taken. It is now 10:00 PM. Noone in the site I asked to be moved to. Not coming back. We camped at Flagstaff KOA in a Motorhome.

I-35 RV Park, Waco, Texas

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Just to update everyone, the I-35 construction is complete and the park is now very easy on and off to the highway. Very friendly service, the owner escorts you to a site of your needs (if available) and is now taking credit cards. We wanted a long level pull thru with satellite access and got it. Clean park with gravel interior roads and sites. We stayed here a few years ago and the park is a favorite when traveling to and from the San Antonio area from the North or South. The breakfast during this time of the season is buffet, the full menu begins later in the year. The buffet is well worth a good tip to the cooks. Will stay here again. Price is based on 50 Amp pull thru site. We camped at I-35 RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The Texas Ranger Museum is close by and there's a ton of good restaurants within a few miles. If you're new to the area and Texas BBQ try Rudy's at Exit 333A, you will enjoy eating great BBQ off butcher paper. Rudy's home made cream style corn is the best I've had anywhere.

Benchmark RV Park, Meridian, Mississippi

Date of Stay: September, 2015 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Great for an overnight or a few days to tour Meridian. Easy on an off from I-20, just a few miles North. Good gravel roads and very level concrete pads. Check in was a breeze and if you get there before 4;30 read the door for your assigned site. Friendly staff and a very neat and clean park. A bit small with only about 30 or 35 site, but normally here during the week so no problems. The site might appear to be a little tight, but we had no problem with a four slide 45' motorhome. We try to overnight here everytime we are in the area. We camped at Benchmark RV Park in a Motorhome.

Cave Country RV Campground, Cave City, Kentucky

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice park. We are just overnight this time, but will come back for a longer stay and tour the areas attractions. Great check-in, escort to site and very attentive to details. Plenty of room between sites and the sites are long enough for our 45' motorhome and tow. No need to disconnect. We'll be back. We camped at Cave Country RV Campground in a Motorhome.

Dayton KOA, Brookville, Ohio

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $49.00
Overall Rating:

Good for an overnight. Super staff. The roads could be challenging in a big rig. We were fortunate and got a site near the office so we didn't traverse the back of the park. The roads to our site (#34) were cautiously adequate in our 45' motorhome towing. The pull thru sites close to the office are long enough but narrow. Not a lot of room between sites. Had to watch the utility post to insure we could open slides and bay doors. We would overnight here again in the same area, but a long term stay is not on our list. We camped at Dayton KOA in a Motorhome.

Gram and Pap's Fort Bellefonte Campground, Bellefonte, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

Called for reservations and asked for a level pull thru long enough to hold our 45' motorhome. Was told they would put us in site 69 that will be fine--nice and level and would not require us to unhook our car. When we got there we got there given sight 65 which was plenty long enough but had a severe slope toward the front. Had to use 4" of blocks to get level and had to unhook the car to do that. Water connection was on the wrong side of the site and the electric box had a big posting that said to not shut off the circuit breaker. Not what we expected for the price. We camped at Gram and Pap's Fort Bellefonte Campground in a Motorhome.

Black Bear Campground, Salisbury, Massachusetts

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

Not on our list to re-visit. Sites are tight due to the number of trees, making slides and awnings a challenge. Sites are also gravel and mulch, so prepare to get eaten up by mosquitoes. If it rains it never dries out due to the ample shade provided the many trees. Sat service is impossible, WiFi is nonexistent and cell service is real poor. Too many seasonals and tents for our liking. Not worth the price. There are better campgrounds in the area. We camped at Black Bear Campground in a Motorhome.
