West Branch State Park, Ravenna, Ohio

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Nice clean campground in a beautiful area on the lake. There are very few FHU sites so make reservations well ahead of time. Rates are $32 for FHU and $26 for electric only. There are lots of near flat roads to ride a bike and a playground for the kids. Seasonal activities are organized for family fun and outdoor movies on weekends. Sites are nicely spaced and private. Campground has a quiet laid back feel. We camped at West Branch State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Mohican State Park, Loudonville, Ohio

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Very narrow asphalt sites with grass between each one.

Outdated water and sewer connections. A wooden wedge was required to keep the spring loaded water valve open.

Laundry room was not clean. Appliances were old and rusty but the price to laundry was very reasonable. The location was beautiful. Campground had a playground and a pool. Satelite reception was spotty. We camped at Mohican State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Park is near Amish communities in Berlin and Millersburg which offered interesting things to do and see. There is a huge hardware store in Charm, OH which was a highlight for some as was visiting Lehman's in Kidron, OH.

Pastime Park, Plain City, Ohio

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

The campground was laid out in a confusing manner. The sites varied in size and were not well defined. Because of this, we continually had people walking through "our space". It felt like a grassy field with folks just camped all around wherever they wanted to. Rigs were faced in all directions at will and folks parked wherever they wanted to on the grass around their rig. Our site was supposed to have a 50 amp service but it kept tripping off. We were told that there was something wrong with our rig. We are full-time RVers and have not had this problem in other campgrounds before or after staying at Pastime. The tree cover made it difficult to get satellite TV. We camped at Pastime Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Elkhart County Fairgrounds, Goshen, Indiana

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

This is the type camping that you would expect at a fairground: just the basics. It is basically a large flat gravel parking lot with grass between the parking spaces. Connections were fine. Water connections are shared with other sites. Depending upon location, some of the spaces are extremely close together. The biggest detractor were dozens of trains that travel very nearby hourly day and night. I would suggest this campground only to people who are attending a rally or activity at the fairground. It is OK for an overnighter. Be sure and ask about the activities scheduled during the days you plan to stay at the fairground because this will greatly affect how crowded the camping spaces are. If you stay for 6 nights at the Fairground you get the 7th free. We camped at Elkhart County Fairgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

There are numerous interesting and fun activities to do in Middlebury and Shipshewana. It would be best to camp in one of these cities for a few more dollars per night.

Timber Ridge Campground, Amherst, Ohio

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We stopped by just to spend one night and had a wonderful experience. The office staff was welcoming, kind and informative. Our site was level so set up was quick and easy. We were told that 85% of the occupants are long-term, however, this place did not feel at all like a low-income trailer park. The roads are gravel and very dusty. We were right out in the middle of a field and there was no shade. There was a calendar with activities making if feel like an Escapees type campground. Breakfasts and dinners are offered on some days for only $3.50. Golf carts can be rented for $35 a month. Prices seemed very reasonable. We would definitely stop by again if we were traveling through this area. We camped at Timber Ridge Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Woodland Campsites, Somerset, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Umm...Keep driving!

Very small, unlevel sites on soft ground (mostly grass with a little gravel), 30 amp electric (no 50 amp). Utilities are at the very back of the sites, so you may need extensions. Most of the trailers look like long-term low income housing. Several trailers were empty, rusty and abandoned. Campground is run by a sweet very old lady. It has a small pool that looked clean. We did not use the pool or public restrooms. At $38 a night, we wish we had looked into some of the nearby state parks and campgrounds. Since we were only staying for one night we went ahead and "bit the bullet" and stayed. We camped at Woodland Campsites in a Fifth Wheel.
