Toledo East / Stony Ridge KOA, Perrysburg, Ohio

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

I'm surprised this property keeps the KOA affiliation. The interior roads are in terrible condition - dirt with some large stones and many holes. Although we requested a site with no trees we had to have a branch cut in order to clear one slide. This would be OK for a one night stop but I wouldn't plan on any longer stay. We camped at Toledo East / Stony Ridge KOA in a Motorhome.

Thompson / Grand River Valley KOA, Thompson, Ohio

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $54.00
Overall Rating:

This is a large park with a wide range of sites. Our site had a covered patio with table, fire pit and a gas grill. The site was quite long with a good gravel base and level enough not to need cribbing. The interior roads do need some work to fill in the holes. When approaching this park on Route 528 from I-90 you will see a sign directing you to turn left after a couple of miles. I don't recommend you take this as it becomes a rutted dirt road. Continue on into Thompson, go around the square and onto Thompson Road to Ledge Road which is also a dirt road but you only have to travel a half mile. This is a good park for families. Although it's a long (one hour) trip into Cleveland, there aren't many other choices in the area. We camped at Thompson / Grand River Valley KOA in a Motorhome.

Milton Heights Campground, Milton, Ontario

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $47.00
Overall Rating:

This a large park needing some maintenance of the sites and the roads. Our site was a FHU on a gravel turned to dirt base that wasn't level. Although they claim cable, there was no connection at our site. The park is convenient for visiting Toronto. Over half this park is devoted to tenting. We camped at Milton Heights Campground in a Motorhome.

Northpoint Shores RV Resort, New Baltimore, Michigan

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $58.00
Overall Rating:

This park is somewhat remote for visiting the Detroit area but it worked for us. This is a new park (they had their grand opening while we were there). I can't explain the logic behind the setup at this park. They have identified certain sites as premium, others as standard and have reserved two sites for those staying less than a week. The short term sites are very tight and, while we were there, several other sites were empty - a very strange business plan. There is road noise during the morning and evening rush hours. There is a very nice seating area overlooking the bay that is quite pleasant. The sites are narrow and, for desiel pushers, your door is so far forward you end up exiting on the grass. We camped at Northpoint Shores RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Sunny Brook RV Resort, South Haven, Michigan

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $74.00
Overall Rating:

This is a property that sells its sites and is still expanding. It has two pools - one for owners and one for renters. There is also a small beach at the end of a retention pond and a clubhouse. They seem to have plenty of activities during the camping season. Our site was full hookup gravel site. The Wi-Fi was intermittent. The sites are not as spacious as I would expect for ownership properties. The park is very clean and well maintained with no outside noises. We camped at Sunny Brook RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Hearthside Grove Motorcoach Resort, Petoskey, Michigan

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $100.00
Overall Rating:

I have been planning to visit this park for years after seeing their magazine in 2014. This is a buy your site operation with prices for high-end totally built out sites with a car garage selling for $750,000. They have a clubhouse, pool and tennis courts. The sites are very generous and the majority of motor homes are those priced in the very high six figures and many in the seven figure range. All that and you still have to take your garbage to the dumpsters! Our site was spacious with a paver base and full hookup. A very nice park to visit but not my idea of the perfect concept of motor homing. We camped at Hearthside Grove Motorcoach Resort in a Motorhome.

Manistique Lakeshore Campground, Manistique, Michigan

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

What a wonderful CG! It's hard to believe this is a municipal CG as it was well planned, built and is perfectly maintained. The sites are full hook-up, concrete, extra-long and absoutely level. There is a seperate gravel parking space at each site. The fire rings are unique in my camping experience. The CG is located on the north shore of Lake Michigan and everyone has access to the beach. There is also a large pavillion for group events. The wi-fi is excellent and the cable provides 30 channels. We camped at Manistique Lakeshore Campground in a Motorhome.

Wisconsin State Fair RV Park, West Allis, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

Our site was level, although it didn't seem that all sites were. Most sites share connection points so you would be parked front to back with your neighbor. Although the sites are relatively close, there is ample space to park your tow vehicle next to your camper. We were there during a period of extreme heat (over 100) and the park lost power for a few hours one day but our generator kept us cool. Power was restored and there were no other incidents. This is a great place to stay if you want to visit Milwaukee. Ten minutes to Miller Park and 15 minutes to downtown. We camped at Wisconsin State Fair RV Park in a Motorhome.

Hollywood Casino Hotel & RV Resort, Joliet, Illinois

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $47.00
Overall Rating:

The pull-thru sites are very long and level and there is a gravel 'lane' on each side of the paved park road. The sites are very wide so you're not on top of your neighbor. We received a very friendly welcome on arrival along with $5 dining credit at the casino for each night of our stay. Fortunately, my wife only lost $60 in the casino. We camped at Hollywood Casino Hotel & RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

This was a very convient campground for us to attend games at both ballparks in Chicago. The best way to Chicago is the Red Line from New Lenox - only a 15 minute drive from the CG.

Double J Campground and RV Park, Chatham, Illinois

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Our Garmin GPS took us miles out of the way. Just use Exit 88 on I55 and you'll only be two miles from the CG. The roads and sites are all gravel, well maintained and easy to navigate. Our site was level and good for satellite reception. While there for five days the Wi-Fi was only usable for two days. Lots of Wi-Fi points but gets overloaded easily. We camped at Double J Campground and RV Park in a Motorhome.

Sugar Bottom COE, Solon, Iowa

We thought we had reserved a FHU site but turns out it was power only - not a problem for a two night stay. The site was pull-thru, level and satellite reception was fine. Roads are paved and easy to negotiate. You should be aware that the check-in time is 4:00 pm. We camped at Sugar Bottom COE in a Motorhome.

Lebanon Hills Regional Park Campground, Apple Valley, Minnesota

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

We had one of the few pull-thru sites in the West Loop. The site was not quite level but didn't require a lot of cribbing. Unfortunately it rained for the three days we were there and since we were on a hill we had a constant 'river' flowing through our site. Some additional gravel would be a big improvement. There was also a period of no water due to a problem with the main but it was fixed quickly. The park is very close to I35 and therefore is easy to get into Minneapolis. We camped at Lebanon Hills Regional Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Crossroads RV Park, Mount Pleasant, Iowa

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

This is great place to stop if you are traveling on Rt34. The park is close and easy to get to but far enough to avoid road noise. The interior roads are easy to navigate. The sites are all pull-through with two rows of 90' sites and one row of 65' sites. All sites are level and have full hook-ups. When we arrived the office was closed but there was a sheet posted with directions to our site and requesting we return to the office later to register. The grounds are maintained perfectly. The cable tv has over 90 stations, there is no problem for satellite reception and the wi-fi is great. We camped at Crossroads RV Park in a Motorhome.

Archway RV Park (formerly Quality Times RV Park), Mount Vernon, Illinois

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This was an overnight stop on our way North. Park is easy to get to from the thruway. Greeting was very friendly and after registering we were escorted outside and directed to a site that best fit our needs. The site was right-sized and level. There is no cable but the Wi-Fi is very good. This is one of those parks where the utilities are "shared" requiring alterating parking in adjacent sites. We camped at Archway RV Park (formerly Quality Times RV Park) in a Motorhome.

Manchester KOA, Manchester, Tennessee

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $51.00
Overall Rating:

My review is heavily biased due to the site we had (34). To begin the review, if you are arriving in a motorhome and pull up to the painted spots, be careful when you open the door. They have placed concrete cylinders along the edge to insure you will damage your vehicle before going on the grass. On top of each cylinder is a concrete flower pot. This means that if you miss the cylinders you might (as my wife did) ding your door when you open it. The person greeting us was very pleasant and promptly checked us in and called someone to escort us to our site. Since we were towing and just stopping for the night, we had to pull ALL the way forward in the site in order to get our tow out of the way. This resulted in the front of the coach being at least a foot higher than the rear and required much cribbing and trail and error to get level. Our site was large gravel. However, we were surrounded by sites that were concrete pads and the slope of the terrain is very evident. Many of the sites located in lower numbers were either paved or in a flat area of the CG. Overall the park seems well maintained and is very well located to get on and off I24. This also means you will hear the thruway all the time you are there. The cable is very good but the WiFi is slower than bulk mail! We camped at Manchester KOA in a Motorhome.
