Winnemucca / I-80 KOA (formerly I-80 Winnemucca), Winnemucca, Nevada

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Typical KOA. Old, dirt, bad roads, dusty. What else can be said. It's a OK stop over for the night. Staff very friendly. Met by staff, taken to site. Never went to the office. They delivered the receipt a short while later. Did have some I-80 road noise from truckers but not a problem. Heard the train way off in distance too. Some shade but largely sunny. We camped at Winnemucca / I-80 KOA (formerly I-80 Winnemucca) in a Motorhome.

Iron Horse RV Resort, Elko, Nevada

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

Very clean, very nice. Staff efficient and friendly. This is our 3rd time here. Will come back as we pass through. Site was a pull thru and almost perfectly level. We like the long sites as you can actually stagger with your neighbor. Hookups are both in the center so you are both facing the opposite directions. There is just 6-7 feet between you. On the passenger side your something like 30 feet apart. We camped at Iron Horse RV Resort in a Motorhome.

California Trail interpretive center, 8 miles west on I-80. Worth stopping at. Between 1841 and 1869 250,000 traveled to California along this route. Northeastern Nevada Muesum. Covers local and natural history. A highlight is the legendary art collection. Total 40,000 SF of art and exhibits. In down town Elko on Idaho Street. Sherman Station Center. 1897 historic pine ranch house, stable, blacksmith shop and more. Large bar wire and horseshoe collection plus many branding iron desplay.

Traveland RV Park, Logan, Utah

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

Smaller park but good. Watch for your turn in as it's tricky. It's behind the hotel. Go slow regardless of the traffic. It's close to main highway so had some road noise. But dies down after 9-10. We called for reservation.. good thing we did, only two spaces and it was first come first serve as the office was closed on a Thursday? Don't park on the grass! $50. Fine. Cell and wi-fi very strong. You will know your near cattle and agriculture. We camped at Traveland RV Park in a Motorhome.

The Virginian Lodge RV Resort, Jackson, Wyoming

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $105.00
Overall Rating:

It's expensive but only place there! Good central location to the town square (aka tourist central). Also even closer to grocery, car wash, Ace Hardware, bike shop, Staples and more... All places we needed. Came out of YNP for one night, ended up spending three. Two to get everything done and one to generally relax.. YNP is a very busy and demanding but fun place. Then headed west.. Power is good as are the other hookups. Can get direct TV satilite and wi-fi was good as we needed to do some real estate business. We camped at The Virginian Lodge RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Dinner at Kazumi's Japanese. Very good food and service. Smaller portions and pricy. But remember how far you are from really fresh seafood. To get it to Jackson is Costly! And it must be fresh... Don't pay too much attention to Yelp reviews. We almost didn't go but could not get a reservation anywhere. Gun Barrel Steakhouse and Game... outstanding food and service.. not to mention it's practically a museum quality interior with paintings and artifacts.

Bridge Bay Campground (NPS Campground), Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $13.00
Overall Rating:

Dry camping only... we were there in our 40' coach. They can accommodate them in several pull outs but you must be a bit creative to shoehorn in and have room for your toad. But it works.. must keep all wheels on pavement. We had a bison in the camp site everyday plus an elk several times. Mr B stays there everyday, all day. Have lots of wood or something as it is very unlevel. You'll need to raise the low sides. Also can can go against the arrow pattern with out. Permission to get your door on the correct side, if you want. We did.. This is much better than Fishing Bridge if you don't mind dry camplin. There is a dump station, small store at the marina. We camped at Bridge Bay Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

YNP. You know why you are there. BBis right in the middle so easy to drive most anywhere. Half hour between each major point. Yellowstone hotel for dinner, very good. Get firewood from marina store. It's dryer than at campground. Take the 1-hour boat trip on the lake. $18 adults and worth it

Colter Bay Village RV Park -- Full Hookups (Concessionaire Operated) , Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $58.00
Overall Rating:

Tree branches are impossible to miss both from the top and sides in most every site. Some branch issues on roads too. So keep looking up if your in a 12 foot +/- rig. Reasonably level sites. Sewer was upslope. Other wise a good campground given its age and who runs it. Staff not pleasant or helpful. Were able to make and receive cell calls from our site. Signal is weak anywhere you go. Very good grocery store given location, full fuel service and prices are same as NorCal. Surprised us! Don't eat at Colter restaurant. The grill is better except for the pizza.. skip it. You know why you are in Grand Teaton. Go to the Jackson Lake Lodge. Great food and views. Has a business center plus good cell and wi-fi, just slooooow. Tell them where you are staying and the will give you the door code. Five computers. Food there is very good. SB, it's a 5star resort. Drive to top of signal mountain for fantastic views. Also Jenny Lake Lodge. We did eat there but clearly an upscale small Lodge feel and very good menu.

Yellowstone Grizzly RV Park, West Yellowstone, Montana

Had a pull through, nice grass area between us. Very level. Hook ups were a distance but that was because we pulled all the way forward as to park the toad In the rear. Well cared for large resort style park. Close to everything in town. Did not use their wifi as we use our own hotspot. We camped at Yellowstone Grizzly RV Park in a Motorhome.

Butte KOA, Butte, Montana

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $65.00
Overall Rating:

Passed over two other good sounding parks for this one because the KOA website said " Deluxe sites with concrete patio, picnic table, swing, fire pit, grass and shade". Just an extra $10!! OK, it's my birthday so let's deluxe it for the night. Roads are all gravel and dusty (typical of KOA's) so that was OK. Did have concrete patio, fire ring, picnic table but no swing, no grass only weeds cut to look like grass, no shade and really close to I-90. So don't book Deluxe. Access from highway easy as is entrance to park. Again all dirt and dusty. Pool area nice but lots of kids as one would expect with KOA. Other than that, again, typical for our experiences with KOA. We camped at Butte KOA in a Motorhome.

Went to Casagranda's Steakhouse in uptown Butte for dinner. Worth going to. Unexpected quality. Food was very good, service also very good. Lots of steaks as well as other choices to chose from. Set in an old beer warehouse from around 1900, interesting!

Camp Coeur D'Alene, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

IF YOU HAVE ANYTHING BIGGER THAN 30 FEET, DON'T GO HERE. This includes 5th wheels and motor coaches. Old KOA. No store or supplies. Do have ice. Located in a canyon that is narrow and very difficult to maneuver in. We are in a 40' with toad. Had a very difficult time getting into the space. Its all uphill to drive to space with very tight turns. Could not get straight into the space so was pushed over to the next space. Less that a foot between us. Power is right there too. I could reach out and touch the neighbor's power pole from my bedroom window. It was right under the window. Leaving was next to impossible. Had to unhook to get out. Steep dirt driveway. Had to ask the people across the street if they could move their truck for a few minutes. Space was dirt and a bit of a mess. Old power system and damaged. Sewer connection buried and a very long way from our hook up. Did not matter as we were there for the night only. They offer free firewood though.. And a old wash tub fire ring. It is popular, however. as it is on the lake, or at least has some access to the lake. We camped at Camp Coeur D'Alene in a Motorhome.

Oregon Trail RV Park, Irrigon, Oregon

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Nice new park. Some long term but well kept spaces. No junk. Hard to find so watch for blue state highway signs. Must be some issue with road signs. Lots of grass but no tables or other amenities. Space blacktop is narrow so sprinklers got the sides of the coach during the night. Hard water........water spots. Nice showers. Very very clean. Takes quarters to use. $1.00 for about 5 minutes. There is a coin machine in the lobby so you can change paper $$ to coin. Owners live on property and are very nice. We camped at Oregon Trail RV Park in a Motorhome.

Seven Feathers RV Park, Canyonville, Oregon

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $80.00
Overall Rating:

Have stayed here overnight many times. Beautiful resort, well done, well ran. Have shuttle to Seven Feathers Casino about a mile away. Resort was packed as usual. Called on way up from CA and got lucky to get a space for the night. Steakhouse in Casino is really good. Have also eaten at the coffee shop and food there good also. RV resort is friendly for dogs with lots of places to walk them. No real restrictions other than 'pick up the poop'. A lot of grass both in our space and along the walking paths. Well lighted at night. We camped at Seven Feathers RV Park in a Motorhome.

Waiiaka RV Park (formerly Waiiaka Trailer Haven), Yreka, California

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Nice park, convenient right off I-5. Pull thru was concerning with trees and branches but turned out OK. Appreciated the shade as the temp was over a 100 degrees. Guided us to our spot but ask if we would like assistance parking or not. Did not just assume we needed help. Owner came around in the early evening with a couple bags of popcorn. Was a nice touch....and appreciated. Location is directly across from county fairgrounds so if you have business there, this is perfect. No sat as too many trees. Owners are third generation ranchers in Yreka and bought the park 2 years ago. We camped at Waiiaka RV Park (formerly Waiiaka Trailer Haven) in a Motorhome.

Folsom Lake SRA - Beals Point Campground, Folsom, California

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice CA state campground. Very good distance between sites. Full hookups or dry camping. We did full hookups. Our site #62 was 100% level so did not need to do anything. Fire pit, picnic table in each site. Well maintained power. Better sewer connection than many parks. Could actually put line in and not need a rock to keep it in place. Everything you would need is close. Gas, grocery, food, repairs, hardware store, etc. Great place to ride a bike along the dam plus several off road trails for those who want that. Folsum Lake has fishing too. Saw deer, wild turkeys, and lots of squirels in the campground. Campground a little noisey from the roadway outside, but certainly not bad. Really feels remote yet its not.
