Farr Park Campground & Horse Activity Center, Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

The website for this park needs a lot of help. There are no directions or recommended routing for RV's. Do NOT try to turn onto Brightside from Nicholson!!! This is a very steep railroad crossing over which our front leveling jacks drug. Also, making that 90 degree turn is impossible in a large RV if there are any cars waiting on Brightside at the signal. I wish I knew a better route in, but I will try to post something if we find a more suitable route. The signage is very poor. It says to register in the office, but the sign also says it is closed on the weekends. Another camper sent me all the way across the facility to the arena activity center. Again, no signs saying anything about RV registration. It turned out there was a girl in that facility that did register us. She seemed confused when I said I could find no signage. Anyway, this is pricey for what you get. I can see what others have said about the grass sites becoming a soggy mess in the rain. They are also set up as double sites which would never fit two large RV's. I can't figure that one out. There were very few people here, so we just basically used two sites. Other than a very nice place to walk your dog, it's just a quiet spot in the country. We camped at Farr Park Campground & Horse Activity Center in a Motorhome.

Beebe Bridge Park, Orondo, Washington

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

The off season senior rate of $15 is a bargain. It is a beautiful spot with a couple of caveats. To call this "big rig friendly" is a stretch. Our 45 foot motorhome was a challenge to get into ANY spot. The river front "pull thrus" are really semi circular loops that are narrow with the utility pedestals very close on one side and soft, wet grass all around. The sprinklers seemed to run almost non stop (in October?) so everything was super wet and soft. We could not pull all the way into a riverfront loop without rolling over the grass. Same with back in sites that had too sharp of an angle off the roads. We finally pulled about halfway into a loop site and had our front door overhanging the sopping wet grass. Great place if you can find a place to fit. I would say that 35 to 40 feet would be max. The sites are plenty long, but have turns that are too sharp. We camped at Beebe Bridge Park in a Motorhome.

Shoreline RV Park, Eureka, California

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

To say this is big rig friendly is a stretch. Entering between two stone pillars in our 45 foot motorhome without driving over the grass like several others have done is tough. What was worse was turning into our site. There was a wooden post near the rear of the site that we were inches away from, and that was after swinging 6 feet onto the grass and very close to our neighbor. This place was NOT designed with big rigs in mind. The other negatives are that the sewer hookups are all the way at the back of the sites. I needed over 20 feet of sewer hose to reach. The asphalt pads are so narrow that you are walking in the very tall, wet grass alongside your rig if you have slideouts. The cable tv is very poor. Super blurry picture on standard def and constant flickering in and out on the upper hi def channels, which are not even shown on the parks channel lineup. With a small trailer or motorhome, this place might be fine, but it really doesn't work for big rigs. Despite what appears to be a number of permanent residents, it is clean and reasonably quiet. We were towards the back of the park, so highway noise was not noticeable. We camped at Shoreline RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Old town has gorgeous architecture and a few good restaurants, but the homeless population is quite noticeable, which is distracting. The parks brochure says it's a 10 minute walk to old town, but that must be at a full jog. It's more like 20 at best. The Lost Coast Brewery is very popular and worth a visit for you beer fans.

Death Valley Inn and RV Park (formerly Burro Inn Casino & RV Park), Beatty, Nevada

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

There's not much to choose from in Beatty, but this is overpriced for what you get. Dusty, dirt sites that are barely long enough for 45 footer plus tow. The biggest issue is the narrow sites with trees between them. We repositioned 3 times and still couldn't extend all 4 slides without hitting branches. The host said he's mentioned this to the owner but nothing gets done. I finally got out my ladder and saw and removed enough branches to put out our slides. Will avoid this place in the future. We camped at Death Valley Inn and RV Park (formerly Burro Inn Casino & RV Park) in a Motorhome.

Pueblo El Mirage RV Resort (55+ park), El Mirage, Arizona

Date of Stay: March, 2016 - $52.00
Overall Rating:

As others have stated, this doesn't really fit as a "resort" RV park. It is primarily park models full of snowbirds. The sites are dirt and gravel, most with some type of concrete pad. The utilities all the way at the rear of the sites was probably intended for park models. LONG hoses and power cables are needed. Overall, the facilities are nice and well maintained. One plus I found was a complete wood shop. It has just about every type of woodworking power tool you can imagine with plenty of countertop work space. It's very popular and has some very helpful people supervising it.

A couple of peeves: The twice a week garbage pickup would not be a problem except there is no dumpster for the other days. This seems very short sighted and inconvenient. The jet noise from nearby Luke AFB during our stay was completely over the top. Others have stated that they don't fly at night or on the weekends did not apply during our stay. Last night, at least 3 very loud jets flew over quite low at 1:00 AM. That was the end of sleeping for me. I don't know if they are doing some kind of intense training right now or if it is always this way, but we would not return for this reason alone. It can be ear shattering and seems non-stop at times.

The posted speed limit in the resort is 10 MPH. We must have a different speedometer than most of the other tenants, as they regularly blow past doing 20 to 25. We have seen other resorts using those radar speed displays successfully.

The El Mirage Road in front of the resort is being totally rebuilt, so is a mess. No one mentioned this during my reservation phone call and it was not on their web site. The route we chose off of State Route 60 went thru the worst of the road work and forced us to the curb lane which had overhanging tree branches that added many new scratches along the top of our nearly new motorhome. It is unbelievable that the resort management doesn't get the word out to advise the best routes in and out. We camped at Pueblo El Mirage RV Resort (55+ park) in a Motorhome.

Cactus RV Park, Tucumcari, New Mexico

Date of Stay: March, 2016 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

Owners very accommodating...will set you up with a space conducive to satellite it you want, or provide cable service.
Location outstanding. Within walking distance to a Lowes Grocery Store and several diners.
Several murals were on many of the businesses relating to Route 66.

Owners make it very clear on their website this is a no frills campground.

Biggest assets are easy in and out off the freeway, without the freeway noise, and nice level sites. We camped at Cactus RV Park in a Motorhome.

Council Road RV Park, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: March, 2016 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Overpriced. Park in the middle of an industrial area. Construction on Council Rd made it noisy and hard to get to with the snarled traffic.
We picked this one based on a review that said you could not hear the freeway noise. It was very prevalent in our site, which was in the back of the park.
Dont plan on staying here if you want to stay hooked up unless you are a relatively small RV and don't need or want to go anywhere. We camped at Council Road RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We went to Bricktown, which was cute: a smaller version of the San Antonio River Walk. It was about a 10 minute drive from the park.

There was also a nice looking bike and walking path on the outside perimeter of the park. Unfortunately it was fenced with the gate locked. No information was available in how to access it.

Downtown Riverside RV Park, North Little Rock, Arkansas

Date of Stay: March, 2016 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

Rain made for a lot of pooled water and mud throughout the campground especially at the entrance to the pedestrian bridge. A little more gravel may go a long way.
The location is outstanding, as others have noted. We walked across the bridge to the Clinton Museum and then to the River District. Lots of restaurants to choose from. We went to the Flying Saucer famous for their selections of beer.
There is also a bike and walking path along the river that goes for several miles.

Not a park for an extended stay. We camped at Downtown Riverside RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Take the Pedestrian Bridge across to the Clinton Museum and then to the River District, 2 blocks up. On a nice day, ride your bike or walk on the miles long trail along the river.
Plan your visit accordingly. Rain and extreme heat would make the park less pleasant

Crystal Lake RV Resort, Naples, Florida

Date of Stay: January, 2016 - $63.00
Overall Rating:

As another reviewer stated, this is looking more like a trailer park than an RV resort because of so many park models. On the plus side, the park is immaculate and the sites on the lake are pleasant, except for the fact you are looking at mostly park models. Everyone is friendly enough, but they tend to socialize only with other long term residents, so we didn't meet as many other RVers as we'd like.
The price is high for what you get, and the location is pretty far out, requiring about 30 minutes to get into downtown Naples. Strip malls and grocery stores are nearby, however. We would choose something different next time. We camped at Crystal Lake RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Point Of View Key Largo RV Resort, Key Largo, Florida

Date of Stay: November, 2015 - $110.00
Overall Rating:

Other reviews pretty accurately describe this park, gravel roads and wide, long sites with hedges between. Easy to maneuver our 45 foot bus. We wish we had reserved a waterfront site because our water view came and went depending on the size of the rigs in front of us. Beautiful large pool area that seemed popular. We didn't see any outside boaters using it as someone mentioned. Nice, newer boat docks but the very small beach is in pretty poor shape.
Great staff all around and excellent, continuous upkeep going on.

Another reviewer mentioned a terrible dog walk area with no shade? Something must have changed, because now there are two quite large fenced areas along the front property line that is grass and wood shavings and covered with trees and bushes. It is very nice and has doggie bags and trash receptacles at each end. We camped at Point Of View Key Largo RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Several good restaurants and tiki bars nearby. Across the street is the Pinecrest Bakery which specializes in Cuban sandwiches, coffee and huge array of baked goods.

Next door to that is Keys Bite. It serves breakfast, lunch and dinner which is mostly very good Mexican. Try the steak taco salad!

Our favorite tiki bar for sunsets is just up the street and called Snooks. Beautiful waterfront setting with great happy hour but so so food.

Desert Willow RV Park, Van Horn, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2015 - $13.00
Overall Rating:

We almost felt guilty taking the passport rate of 12.50. The owner was very accommodating and waited for us to arrive after 7pm and gave us a nice level pull thru with plenty of room for our 45 ft and tow vehicle. As noted previously it is a bit noisy with the train and the freeway...but you can not beat the value. We camped at Desert Willow RV Park in a Motorhome.

Calistoga RV and Campground, Calistoga, California

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $57.00
Overall Rating:

We have stayed here several times over the past few years primarily because of it's proximity to downtown Calistoga and the 9 hole golf course right next door. Over the years, it appears that nothing has been improved other than some new signs and trash can holders! What used to be gravel sites are now 90% dirt and the "paved" access roads are pretty poor. I guess letting it get run down and raising the rates to a ridiculous level makes sense to someone! They even charge $2.00 a day for our poodle. We won't be returning again unless rates come back down and improvements are made.

We thought about sitting outside (in the dirt) , but we would have only been a couple of feet away from our neighbors sewer hose!

This location is killer. I would think that some investment in the property would pay for itself and attract more repeat visitors. Unfortunately, I suspect this place is just another example of a poorly managed public entity. Too bad.

Note: If you are in a tall RV, be aware that most of the neighborhood streets have VERY low hanging branches. From the main drag in town, Lincoln St, go north on Fair Way to the end. Turn right on Oak then left into the park a block down. We camped at Calistoga RV and Campground in a Motorhome.

Columbia Sun RV Resort, Kennewick, Washington

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We have to agree with other reviewers about the high rates. The park is immaculate with giant (over 100 feet long) pull-throughs and nice grass at each site. Very friendly staff and work campers. But it's location is nothing special in a light industrial area. Freeway is nearby but the noise is minimal.

We stayed an extra night on a Sunday when Passport rates were available so got that night at half price, which helped. We camped at Columbia Sun RV Resort in a Motorhome.
