Beaver Lake Campground, Quincy, Florida

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Just a large open field with hookups. Sorta like camping in somebody's back yard. We were the only ones there the one night we stayed. (There was a truck camper three spaces over, but nobody around.) Convenient to the Interstate for an overnight, but understand that the town of Quincy is dying. Bring your dinner with you. No Wi-Fi or Cable, but OTA TV was good. We camped at Beaver Lake Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Twelve Oaks RV Park, Lake Charles, Louisiana

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

There may have been a change of ownership or management since the previous reviews. There are a number of long term residents, but they are almost all in an area that is across the road from the travelers spaces. Work on repairing and upgrading the concrete parking pads was in progress when we were there. Our space was a long level paved pull-thru with full utilities, a patio, a park bench, a boulevard lamp and a small tree. One of the nicer spaces we saw in a six week trip. We will stay here again. We camped at Twelve Oaks RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Dixieland RV Park, Carmine, Texas

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

Level grass pull-through with full hookups. The campsites back down to a big grassy park, The dog loved it since this was the first time we had been on grass in a month, all of the previous desert Southwest places being (hot) gravel.

The owners are on site and are very friendly and helpful. Be aware that nothing is open in Carmine on Sunday or Monday. The nearest services are 15 miles away. We will stay here again. We camped at Dixieland RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Caverns of Sonora RV Park, Sonora, Texas

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

We visited here to tour the caverns but then found that the distance was too far (1.5 to 2 miles underground) for my disabled back to try. We were the only ones on the CG the first night. That made the tight geometry easier to work out. The utility peds (there is no sewer to avoid possible contamination of the caverns) are very close to a fence line. I could not pull in the way the staff advised. I went around and pulled in backwards, getting the benefit of some shade. Since there was only W&E, I ran the lines under the trailer and hooked from the "wrong" side. This place provided a great place to relax for a couple of days after five weeks on the road. No TV. No Wi-Fi. Almost no AT&T (go up to the office) phone. We will stay here again when the weather is cooler. We camped at Caverns of Sonora RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Road Runner RV Park (formerly Parkview Mobile Home & RV Park), Fort Stockton, Texas

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

The on-site owner seems to mean well, but a major maintenance blitz would go a long way to improve this park. Many long time residents seem not to care. We ended up in a FHU pull-thru site, but it took a while. Only a few of the sites scattered through the park have 50Amp power available and the person in the office didn't seem to know which ones that might be and/or which were occupied. The owner saw us driving aimlessly about and came to our rescue. With the Passport America discount it is a reasonable place to overnight but I'm not sure I would stay here again. In this part of Texas, distances are long and parks may be few and far between. We camped at Road Runner RV Park (formerly Parkview Mobile Home & RV Park) in a Fifth Wheel.

Mission RV Park, El Paso, Texas

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

This is a large park with a number of long term residents, but plenty of space during the Summer. We were in the back in a long gravel pull thru with FHU. Wi-Fi was spotty (too many streamers?) but cable was good. There is a very reasonably priced laundry with all brand new machines. Blue Bell ice cream was available in the office. Life is good! We camped at Mission RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Queen Mine RV Park, Bisbee, Arizona

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

The view from any of the sites is amazing. We were backed in overlooking the lights of "Old" Bisbee. A level gravel site with FHU and some afternoon shade. We had blown a tire on the trailer earlier in the day (changed by Roadside Assist) and the manager called ahead to the Firestone store to make sure they had a tire to fit and could mount it up for me that afternoon. Above and beyond! We will stay here again, in cooler weather. We camped at Queen Mine RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Whispering Palms RV Park, Tucson, Arizona

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Gravel full hookup pull-through convenient to the Interstate but a long way from Saguaro National Park. Many long term residents, but plenty of room for travelers. Wi-Fi was good, but the cable was dead at our site. (They had been installing new water lines and may have cut some of the cable connections.) We picked up cable from the vacant site next door. We would stay here again. We camped at Whispering Palms RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Desert Cypress Mobile Home & RV Park, Wickenburg, Arizona

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

We were in the "new" section. A long, level gravel pull-thru in what is basically a three row parking lot. Some trees have been planted but it is going to be a LONG time before they provide any shade. There was only one other trailer there when we stayed (Middle of Summer at 120 degrees) so crowding was not an issue. All utilities, including Wi-Fi, worked as they should. The manager went out of her way to see that we knew where the dog run was, where to fuel, where to get dinner, etc. If we are in the area, we will stay here again (possibly in cooler weather). We camped at Desert Cypress Mobile Home & RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Ridgeview RV Resort, Bullhead City, Arizona

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

Rate reflects $10 in Coast to Coast points plus $3 for 50 amp and $3 for "Resort Fee" per day. Also, they advertise "Wi-Fi" but don't mention that it is provided by some mysterious third party and requires a daily credit card charge. I don't like giving my card # to unknown parties, so we passed on this "feature".

We had a huge gravel back-in site with full hookups and a view through our rear window out across the Colorado River to the lights of Laughlin. Our only complaint was the oppressive heat, which we cannot blame on management. We camped at Ridgeview RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Shady Lane RV Camp, Barstow, California

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

Don't be fooled by the long term resident area to the right of the office. Transient sites are up the hill (sharp turn) to the left and are completely away from the semi-permanent portion. Our site was a paved, level pull-through with full hookups. Some shade trees, although we caught full afternoon sun (at 114 degrees) on the refrigerator side of the trailer. Water services had been recently replaced and pavement repairs were not complete, but that did not impede setting up.

We would stay here for an overnight again. We camped at Shady Lane RV Camp in a Fifth Wheel.

Visalia / Sequoia National Park KOA, Visalia, California

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $59.00
Overall Rating:

Unfortunately this is a poor excuse for a KOA. Showing age and lack of care. Add to that the fact that is it very expensive for what is provided and we cannot recommend it. I was surprised to be able to get reservations for 4th of July weekend on short notice, but after seeing the place, I understand the lack of patrons. Our site was a level gravel pull-through with a small shade tree and the water, power, and sewer worked. Cable did not work at any time in the 4 days we were there. Over-the-air TV was OK. "Free" Wi-Fi was a joke.

We will not be staying here again. We camped at Visalia / Sequoia National Park KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Lamar Sportsman's RV Center and Horse Motel, Lamar, Colorado

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

We had stayed here before, but the place has gone downhill and the price has gone up.

Fairly level gravel FHU site, but interior roads are poor. Management doesn't seem to care where or how you park as long as you pay first.

We will not be staying here again. We camped at Lamar Sportsman's RV Center and Horse Motel in a Fifth Wheel.

Overnighted here. Convenient to the Interstate. Gravel pull thru site was level and interior roads are good. Some sites are shaded, but not ours. Cable TV requires a converter box (which I cannot use due to hook up locations on the sets). OTA TV was marginal. WiFi was good at our site near the office. We camped at Outdoor Living RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Martin Lake Resort, Biloxi, Mississippi

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

Site was a short, fully paved, level back-in. Due to recent storms the entire property was soggy/flooded (you can't really blame this on management). One wheel of the truck dropped off the pavement while backing in and I had to go to 4-wheel drive to pull it out. Site was a little short for my 35' fiver and long-bed crew cab but no one objected to a little obstruction of the street. Many long term campers and LOTS of children who do not watch for traffic. We will stay here again if it is along our route to somewhere else, but it is not a destination campground. We camped at Martin Lake Resort in a Fifth Wheel.
