Newport / I-40 / Smoky Mountains KOA, Newport, Tennessee

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Rough entry. Quick check-in; nice lady at desk. Low tree limbs. Gravel roads. We were put in back where older RV had been neglected. Need to spruce up the place. No cable ( without a box; extra cost ). Not up to KOA stds. Stayed only one night on way home to NC. We camped at Newport / I-40 / Smoky Mountains KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Tom Johnson Campground, Marion, North Carolina

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

Easy in/out. Level sites with concrete pads and grass. Longer than most rigs. Full hookups. No cable. WiFi - OK. Picnic tables. No shade. Nice touch is the small breakfast and lunch in the old sales building. Order and pick up yourself; but it's only $5 for breakfast with grits, eggs, sausage, bacon, pancakes, and gravy. Mt. Mitchell short drive away. Had no reservation. Check-in was a breeze at the service center. Stayed three nights. We camped at Tom Johnson Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Very easy in/out off I-95. Great level sites. Monthly sites are all on the other side of resort from short stay RV's. Roads are gravel; easy excess. Two pools, gym, rec room, 9 hole putt-putt, tennis court. Thur - Sun pancake breakfast. My second trip there; will be back again. We camped at Raleigh Oaks RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Staunton / Walnut Hills KOA, Staunton, Virginia

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

Clean level site with FHU on the lake. Good WIFI, limited cable. One of the best in the area. The drive around the lake upon entering is a nice view. Just far enough off I-81 that there is no traffic noise. Thses folks take pride in the grounds and buildings. We camped at Staunton / Walnut Hills KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Easy in/out; level sites with full hookups. Paved streets with grass sites. Small bathhouse. Most sites are landscaped with hedge bushes. We were going to arrive late; called ahead. Close camp sites. Narrow, sandy roads. Store, restaurant, gift shop, water park all closed. Shed over picnic tables nice, but long timers have closed them in with tarps or plastic. No control on how they look. Large campground. WIFI spotty. We camped at Myrtle Beach Travel Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Close to Mt. Airy and the Blue Ridge Parkway is about 20 minutes away. Mt. Airy is a good place to spend an afternoon just visiting the shops; eating at Barney's café; or taking a tour in an old police car. Blue Ridge Parkway is beautiful this time of year. Visit Mabry Mills.

Overall Rating:

Great staff. Waited after 5:00 PM to check me in. Escorted to site. Almost level; good water pressure; internet spotty. Clean grounds. Stream on both sides of campground. Nice pond. No one on either side of us, so we had plenty of room. Seasonal sites in front of us had lawn mowers, grills, bikes sitting out. Was here Mon. - Thru.; so it was quiet. Will stay here again. The RV Resort at Carolina Crossroads, Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed two nights. Clean, spacious sites. Easy in/out. Level. Some sites paved/concrete. Others with gravel with concrete pad. Only problem - water does not drain well at some sites. It rained ( can't prevent that ) both days. Had to step out into 1-1 1/2 of water because pad is lower than the ground. Will stay again; but not at site P6.
