JP Coleman State Park, Iuka, Mississippi

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful state park on the water. The park was quiet while we were there during the week and off season, however, if it were full you would get to know your neighbors really well! We were in site 22 which was a back in with a view of water thru the trees. The picnic table was on a lower level with no real space to set up our chairs on the upper level. The neighbors on both sides have picnic tables just a few feet from yours as well. The maintenance is obviously in need with steps rotting out, a lot of erosion of the hillsides and trash at the sites not picked up. Our young man who checked us in was very accommodating and gave us a list of available sites to look at and choose if we did not like the one we had chosen online. Roads were wide enough for our 40' motorhome in the first loop. We looked at the farther loop with water sites but they were short and a lot of them were not level. Absolutely NO TV reception except APT and very sporadic Verizon service. Texts would eventually go out, but you need to bring a boat or a book! We camped at JP Coleman State Park in a Motorhome.

We went to Burnsville for the VanLeigh RV factory Tour which was very interesting. There were 2 local grocery stores and a Walmart in Iona with some fast food places. Best to pack a grill and any food items you are going to need in with you.

Mackinaw Mill Creek Camping, Mackinaw City, Michigan

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

Check in was very friendly and helpful. We asked for a satellite friendly site & we certainly had it. Although there were some small trees on our site, it was open and most nights we were the only site on the row! We were next to the Rally building which was not being used that week. We were a distance from the water, but with bikes had no problem riding down for sunset and views of the bridge. Nice grassy park type area with nice swings. Almost any size and view you might want. Also some very nice cabins. The free shuttle runs to Mack Island and has a trailer to take your bike. The store will sell discount tickets for the ferry and also rent bikes. The facilities are well kept. I gave a 9 due to lack of laundry facilities. We camped at Mackinaw Mill Creek Camping in a Motorhome.

Spaulding Lake Campground, Niles, Michigan

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

Our site was a pull thru VERY close to a long term camper. Trees were very close and prevented any satellite coverage. A few antennae stations received. WIFI and verizon were adequate. Site was dust when we arrived and mud within a few hours of a rain. There had been a huge rug recently removed and was a large muddy indentation. Sewer and water the closest I have ever seen and in need of some updating. Water pressure was fair. A lot of older campers that appear to be seasonal. Smokey camp fires 24 hrs. We camped at Spaulding Lake Campground in a Motorhome.

Oak Grove Campground / Resort, Holland, Michigan

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

Got there after hours (closed at noon) and chose a site from the available list at the office. Site had concrete pads and an adequate picnic table. We had vacant sites on each side, but it would have been close otherwise. Next to road so some traffic noise. A very nice bike/walking path outside the park. Grounds immaculate as was laundry room. Laundry had plenty of washers and dryers which were maintained well. Did not see the justification for the rate, but not a lot of choices if you can't get into the state park. We camped at Oak Grove Campground / Resort in a Motorhome.

Kritter's Northcountry Campground and Cabins, Newberry, Michigan

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

So very peaceful and quiet with a nice dark sky to star gaze while hoping to get a glimpse of the Northern Lights. The owners are hands on at all times and constantly cleaning and updating the park. Some full hookups with cable TV, WIFI is an extra $5 and all we needed, because my hot spot w/ Verizon was sketchy as were calls and texts, but possible. Nice grass, plenty of privacy, a sand volleyball court, and lots of other games provided in a park setting. Also, nice nature paths cut through the woods. Convenient for all the UP attractions. An adequate IGA in town for groceries. We did not eat out in Newberry. Roads are nice and wide. Very pet friendly. We found it very refreshing after some of the more crowded camps. Also a few cabins available year round. Wish we could have stayed longer. Some shade but good satellite reception. We camped at Kritter's Northcountry Campground and Cabins in a Motorhome.

Egg Harbor Campground & RV Resort, Egg Harbor, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $64.00
Overall Rating:

Executive sites new, bare, between sites with NO privacy. We heard our neighbors door when they went in and every outside conversation. LOTS of dogs per site & tied outside more audible w/ lack of mature landscaping. Fences w/ the dogs, too. Many campfires with lots of smoke in a very small space. Weather was nice, but did not dare open windows or leave the door open. The premier loop looked better for privacy. No cable or TV reception. Ridiculous at this price. We camped at Egg Harbor Campground & RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Fish boil at Pelitiers, Cherry (or any other kind) Pie from Sweetie Pie's. Check in at the Log Cabin schoolhouse Visitor Center in Sister Harbor for a very helpful overview of the area. Edgewater Gallery a few miles north of the campground is awesome with sculptures along a wooded walkway as well as galleries. Whitefish Dunes and Cave Creek Point on the East side of the peninsula are not to be missed. Had a terrible meal at Shipwrecked Brew Pub in Egg Harbor. Try Macready Artisan Bread Egg H.

Wisconsin State Fair RV Park, West Allis, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

It's a large somewhat sloping asphalt parking lot with marked off sites. Sites are wide enough to park a vehicle beside the RV and have plenty of room. Long enough to be fully on the "pad" and not hang out. There is some slope to every site and our site, row F site 1 had a little but didn't require any boards under the tires. The coach leveling system easily leveled. Other sites observed required boards and we saw some tires "in the air". Utilities strangely designed. Sewer connections are at the back of the sites, are raised up a few to several inches and have the bayonet type fittings, the pin end. Unless you have a hose with the clip end on each end of the hose, you can't connect that way. Diameter too small to use a doughnut on the connection. Smooth end of my sewer 90 just stuck into pipe. System doesn't vent well and you will burp some "stuff" out. Our site we were able to run the hose downhill but others looked like having to run up hill. On some sites you have to decide whether you want to run the water/electric or your sewer under the RV. Electric power was good and steady. My water pressure regulator was set for 60 and that's what went to the coach. No trees so satellite will work. RV park wifi reasonably strong. Laundry clean and machines worked well. Didn't use shower but looked clean. Employees at desk seemed uninformed and unmotivated. Very overpriced for what you get but convenient to downtown. Southwest part of the park quieter as it is further from the roads and traffic lights. We camped at Wisconsin State Fair RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tincup RV Park, Mahomet, Illinois

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Close to Interstate for a one night stop over. Front sites are long enough that you do not have to disconnect. We were in site 1 and had no neighbor beside us, so had plenty of room. A lot of nice green pasture and quiet neighborhood surrounding. No picnic table at each site, but one with a fire ring is in the grassy area directly behind the parking and plenty of room to set up a chair and have a nice peaceful area to overlook the little driving range. We would stay again. We camped at Tincup RV Park in a Motorhome.

Piney Campground, Land Between the Lakes NRA, Dover, Tennessee

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed in site #26 in Dogwood with full hookups, which worked well. We did have to put boards down to level our motorhome on one side due to the slope. We could have had a waterfront site, but it was very unloved and not level enough for our 40'. This site had a partial view of the water and had plenty of space between sites, which were sparsely populated. Most of the population we saw appeared to be full timers who had been there for quite a while. Not sure how or why so many full timers or why such under utilization of this entire recreational facility, but it is certainly not populated by much more than a lot of employees. Almost everyone in the campgrounds has a golf cart and that seems to be the biggest mode of entertainment. Large shade trees and a concrete picnic table was provided. A peaceful, pleasant experience, but certainly out of the mainstream. Verizon reception was good. We camped at Piney Campground, Land Between the Lakes NRA in a Motorhome.

We went to the Planetarium, which asked for donations for a new projector. Hopefully, the 4-5 employees at the welcome center were volunteers, because if they were on payroll with so few visitors, I see the need for donations!

Texas T Campground, Cornersville, Tennessee

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Extremely convenient to the Interstate, with easy access into the park and pull thru spaces which allow you to stay connected for a 1 night stay. Owner was very friendly and accommodating. Some grass between sites with gravel paths. Although close to traffic, we did not hear or were too tired to be bothered with noise. Would certainly consider for future stays. Cable was adequate for local networks. Verizon worked for wifi needs. Did not try their wifi. We camped at Texas T Campground in a Motorhome.

Harborview Inn & RV Park, Garibaldi, Oregon

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

We were elated when we saw our assigned site of 30, which was bay front, on the end, long, wide, spacious and private with a very tall privacy hedge on our curbside with the picnic table. We stayed Thursday-Monday, which was fortunate timing as the Sawmill was in full mode on Th and Fr just across the nice tall hedge from us! Too loud to hear yourself speak for about 10 hours a day except Sat & Sun. Beautiful setting, but a bit windy at times and cold. Crab baskets available for rent and docks to crab from. A restaurant within walking distance. Laundry was small but very clean. Crab boiling facilities were provided for any catches you had which was a nice touch and a Smores Sat evening gathering was provided by the "Inn". (Which I have to agree w/ previous poster is just a small remodeled 60's style motel). Another big problem was the path thru our site which seemed to have been deemed public. A Sign needs to be put up to remind inconsiderate folks of common courtesy. I would stay again, but would choose the opposite end from the saw mill and would want a bay site for sure! We camped at Harborview Inn & RV Park in a Motorhome.

Immaculate park. Probably the cleanest laundry facility I have ever used! Really well kept park very convenient in the middle of town within walking to Safeway. We camped at Phoenix RV Park in a Motorhome.

Fort Lewis Travel Camp (Military FamCamp), Fort Lewis Army Post, Washington

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Very convenient to I-5, Tacoma, Seattle,& other scenic sites. The setting is on American Lake which is a beautiful and sometimes busy lake. A great camp host assisted us with getting CATV connected, which was good because with all the overgrown trees there is no way we could have gotten satellite service! Our pull thru site was very long and spacious. The office staff was very helpful. That is as positive as I can get. Trees, brush, weeds are completely out of control. Bring some shears to cut the blackberry bushes back from your site. Laundry was barely tolerable. The washers had not been cleaned and made you feel that you needed to run a clorox rinse before you put your clothes in. In the middle of my drying cycle, while I was waiting outside, the cleaning crew came in and blocked the door with furniture and and "closed" sign for cleaning! The bathrooms were clean, but the lounge and laundry could use some attention. Do not reserve a lake front site expecting privacy. Especially site # 301, which appears to be a nice, long, pull thru lake front site seems to be the public access for the entire park to the lake. Adults, children, dogs, bikes are constantly going between, thru, around and sometimes OVER you to get to the water. PILES of chairs, floats, trash, dog and goose poop everywhere. While there is suppose to be no swimming except across the lake in designated swim area, that is not enforced. Nor are there any signs or attempts to make a public walkway if this is indeed not included with the site. NOISY party boats with music blasting and what appeared to be "over served" partiers very loud on the lake at times. On top of that row 300 is a one way "path" with all the sites facing away from the lake with hookups on the lake side and your door facing the street! I did notice a large number of what appeared to be full time, active duty homesteading there, even though a 2 week limit is stated. Totally needs some decent management!! We camped at Fort Lewis Travel Camp (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Chester Frost Park, Hixson, Tennessee

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

The Pros: Some sites are beautiful and on the water, some others have nice views at 2nd tier from water. Most are spacious with nice picnic tables. Showers were clean with benches and hangers. Grounds were well maintained and plenty of garbage cans. Lots of park employees riding through out the day thru the park. Nice area to ride bikes. Cons: No sewer (which would have earned a 9.5 from me). Confusing check in. We were given a map to ride around and look at the sites available. One area is reservations and had 2 areas marked which were either too short or not level. We assumed the others sites in that area were already reserved, but upon checking on the computer later, they were not. We could barely understand the lady behind a window at check in who talked thru a microphone with wind blowing her voice away. Terrible communication situation. Some sites have large holes in the pavement and some are quite narrow. Worst problem we had were the campfires and smoky campground. The site behind us had a pop up camper that kept a fire going with green wood around the clock with smoke blowing directly our way. Either the fire rings need to be removed, hours limited for a campfire or some oversight with the materials allowed to be burned. Also noted were some low branches on Ring Gold Road leading into Chester Frost Park that could be problems if not trimmed soon. We will return, but will use reservations in the future. We camped at Chester Frost Park in a Motorhome.

Ellsworth AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp), Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

Only stayed 2 nights on the way cross country. Very nice campground. Easy in and out thru the Patriot Gate which is only open weekdays and closes at 6 PM. Nice spacious sites with back in sites having more space than the pull throughs. Laundry is FREE!! Noise was not that much of an issue as it was overcast and probably fewer jets were flying over the weekend. Small post with an adequate commissary and PX. Reservations were made by phone and all check in information left for self check in. There is a camp host, but we never saw nor needed her. Very enjoyable stay with good utilities. We had one of the few trees in the park so no satellite, but good antenna for several channels. We would stay here again. We camped at Ellsworth AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.
