Raccoon River Campground, Panama City Beach, Florida

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $52.00
Overall Rating:

This is an older park with some attributes. They have 2 pools that look nice and a big playground for young children. I didn't use the laundry room or showers but they and the office were old buildings. A lot of the sites are tight to get into and people park where they can. The sites are well shaded which is great in the heat. The sites are dirt and have lots of pine needles. There was a patio area and picnic table at my site. I thought it was a bit expensive for off season. We camped at Raccoon River Campground in a Motorhome.

Five Flags RV Park, Pensacola, Florida

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

I have to start out by saying my site was a "10". My husband and I lucked out after a long day of driving and got the first "beach" site which was one of the nicest sites we have had in an rv park. We had a pull through gravel site with out own little beach, a hammock, picnic table, beach chairs, palm trees, sand and more.

The manager at the park was very nice and the park is within easy access to I-10. The park has access doors to a convenience store and to a BBQ restaurant. It is also within walking distance to other restaurants.

The roads are gravel and there is no grass between sites which made it hard for my old dog. There is a big dog run though for dogs who can still run. There is no clubhouse, bathrooms, or pool. The park is filled with mostly full timers, but the sites are in good shape. I thought the price was a bit high, but if I could have the same site again I would return. We camped at Five Flags RV Park in a Motorhome.

Gulf Coast RV Resort, Beaumont, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

This is a wonderful park with easy access off of I-10. They have paved roads with long concrete level pads and a picnic table at each site. The time I was there, they did not have cable, but with no trees in the way I was able to easily get my satellite tv. The laundry was small but nice and only $1.00 per machine. There are individual and clean bathrooms. There is a nice small store and the staff is very friendly and helpful. I also used the exchange library which had a nice assortment of books. As an added bonus and a pleasant surprise they offer a free breakfast that was pretty good. They had a cute waffle maker in the shape of the state of Texas. Over all...very nice park and I would go back. We camped at Gulf Coast RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Traders Village RV Park, Houston, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

My husband and I stayed here for some down time and to go the the flea market. The park is more of a large parking lot with some grass. The girl at the office was nice but terrible at directions. The easiest way to get here is to get off at exit 753A from I-10 and go north on Eldridge for about 5 miles. Park is on left. The laundry room and recreation building were closed due to remodeling which this place needs. The pool was closed and no one was using the mini golf or shuffleboard. They both looked closed. The sites are pull throughs and the roads are good but the sites are very close together and there are no picnic tables. There are big garbage pails throughout the park which was convenient. Our sewer overflowed at our site. The hole in the ground was full.

This is mostly a live in park and they actually have very few empty sites. I would not stay here again. We camped at Traders Village RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

If you are staying here for the flea market, don't bother. The flea market and buildings were really nice and clean sadly there were hardly any vendors. THis was the worst flea market I have ever been to. It must have been great at one time but not the weekend I was there.

Katy Lake RV Resort, Katy, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

This is an extremely clean gated park. All sites and roads are concrete. Some sites have picnic tables, but while we were there employees brought a table and chairs to our site without us asking. There is a large lake with a very nice concrete walk all the way around it for walking/jogging. My husband tried fishing on the lake but there were so many frogs and natural surface debris that the fish get plenty of food on their own. There is a very nice pool, hot tub, and outdoor area with a gas fire pit and gas grills that you can use. The laundry room was very clean although I did not use it. There is a small clubhouse with some seating, a tv, some exercise equipment, and a very small book swap. Sadly for the size of this park I thought it was way too small for any "park" activities. Most of the people in the park live here but there are very strict rules and the park is extremely clean. We got the Passport America rate of $27.00 for the night. I don't think I would stay here at the regular rate unless I "needed" to be in the area. We camped at Katy Lake RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Big Chief RV Resort, Burnet, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $13.00
Overall Rating:

This park is a fantastic deal using Passport America. There are only a few sites on the water so we ended up staying close to the buildings. The sites are pull through and easy to get into. We chose our own as no one was in the office when we checked in. This seems to be an older campground with dirt/gravel roads. It rained the night we stayed which of course is no fault of the park but it made a huge mess of our site and rv. The pool was closed as expected this time of year. This is probably a very good park for summer fun and families. We were just passing through and it was kind of far off the highway for just that. There is a small recreation room with a sitting area, tv, some free DVD's to watch, and a book swap. We camped at Big Chief RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Wagon Train RV Park, Canton, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights using Passport America at $15 per night. It was a great value for that. This is a very small park with the owners on site and running it. There is a nice small building with a few private showers which were very clean, a laundry room with $1.00 machines and a small book swap for readers. The sites are easy in and out as they are pull throughs. It is right on the highway but not overly loud. We camped at Wagon Train RV Park in a Motorhome.

Shallow Creek Golf & RV Resort, Gladewater, Texas

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very clean park with all concrete sites and roads. Each site has room for 2 vehicles and they each have a picnic table. The staff was very pleasant and helpful during my stay. It is mostly a live in park and not many travelers passing through. The bathrooms were very clean and were individual rooms with a toilet, sink and shower. Laundry was good and the machines were $1.50 each. The golf course is not part of the park anymore but it can still be used for a fee. My husband tried to fish in the pond but it is more of a drainage hole rather than a good fishing pond. We paid a weekly rate of $150.00 which I thought was a very reasonable rate for such a clean park. We camped at Shallow Creek Golf & RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Fernbrook RV Park, Longview, Texas

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

I have to start off by saying I did not stay here. I called the park before we arrived to tell them we were on our way. When we got there we drove around the park and it looked pretty good. The sites were concrete pull throughs. There were many rv's there but not many cars so it is mostly a live in park but clean. I picked a site and went back to check in. There was no one there. I waited over an hour as per the sign on the door. When no one showed up after 15 more minutes I left. My experience here with the customer service was horrible(there is more) and I will not return or recommend this park to anyone. We camped at Fernbrook RV Park in a Motorhome.

DeSoto State Park, Fort Payne, Alabama

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

This is not a park to stay at if you don't have a tow vehicle. The park is all gravel with trees behind on the outer sites. The roads are steep so no biking. The office and trails are more than a mile from the sites. Phone service and Verizon internet is poor. For people who have never seen the woods this may be a great place. I have better in my backyard. Sadly at this time the Falls in Alabama are dried up so we couldn't view those. I thought this was a very overpriced park for what it is. It would be better to park and hike through rather than pay for one of these sites overnight. We camped at DeSoto State Park in a Motorhome.

Ameristar Vicksburg RV Park, Vicksburg, Mississippi

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

The park is easy to find off of I-20. The check in was fast and the woman who works here is very nice and efficient. The sites and the park are clean with easy in and out pull through sites with full hookups. There is some grass and a picnic table at each site. Lighting is good and the park felt safe. It is a basic park for those who plan on going to the casino....although I don't recommend it. We camped at Ameristar Vicksburg RV Park in a Motorhome.

Deer Run RV Resort, Crossville, Tennessee

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

This is a hard one for me to rate. The property and the lake are absolutely beautiful. The sites are very big. The hook ups are good, the cable is decent but the wifi does not work. My husband and I got one night with Passport America and that is reflected in my nightly rate. Check in went well at a store at the very front of the park. There is a secure gate and they give you a gate card to go in and out with a $10.00 refundable fee. This makes the park pretty safe for children. Once through the gate you drive about 1 mile though the dustiest roads to the sites. The section we stayed in was a loop. The inside sites are ALL gravel not a piece of grass in view. The outside sites are mostly gravel with a little grass here and there and woods behind. Basically it looks like a big parking lot which is sad because it could be a beautiful park. Too bad the sites weren't around the lake...that would have been incredible. For the bad...yes it is a large park and you would think it would be great for walking and biking. It is not. I went biking each day to the store and around the park. I stayed on the roads and because the park is so dusty every time a car or golf cart passed I got swamped in dust. I felt like Pig Pen my whole stay. It made a possible great ride very unenjoyable. Forget about our vehicle. We never left the park because it was so filthy. First thing we did was go to a car wash when we left. The laundry room is $1.50 per washer and $1.50 per dryer. The bathrooms looked clean but there is no A/C in either building. My husband caught one small fish on the lake. Anyway...what could have been an incredible park was not for us. We camped at Deer Run RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Camping World RV Sales of Chattanooga, Chattanooga, Tennessee

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights while visiting Chattanooga. I needed to renew my Good Sam card so I did that here and got one free night.

It is better then I expected. It is in a wooded section with shade. The sites are full hook up with a good selection of cable TV. Outside is a gravel pad and roads with a small concrete patio and a picnic table with a decent amount of space between sites. This is not a "destination" campground but great for visiting the area. I had no problems with check in. It is close to the highway so you do hear some road noise. It is within walking distance to a grocery store and a little bit farther is Bass Pro Shop. I would come back here again if I am seeing the sites in this area. We camped at Camping World RV Sales of Chattanooga in a Motorhome.

Tampa East RV Resort, Dover, Florida

Date of Stay: December, 2012 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

My husband and I stayed here for a week with the special for SunRvResorts. There are three sections in this park. The front seemed to have the nicer, bigger spots. Because of our special price we were put in the back section which had very tight and close sites. The park had a lot of sewer smells. The laundry room was dirty and had broken machines. I checked out the bathroom and showers to see how they were. They are old, dirty and nasty. There is no WiFi and we didn't use any cable. It was also the most unfriendly park I have ever stayed at. It seemed to be about 90% full of Canadians from Quebec: and they did not want to have anything to do with us. Not even a "hello". Even for the price I would never go back to this campground. It left a bad taste for any older SunRV resorts and sadly also for parks that have a lot of Canadians from Quebec. We camped at Tampa East RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Cypress Campground & RV Park, Winter Haven, Florida

Date of Stay: December, 2012 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

My husband and I stay at this park for a few days each year. The past two years they accepted Passport America. This year they did not. The park is clean and the office staff is friendly. They have pull through sites with concrete patios. The bathrooms are clean but could use a freshen up. It looks like they redid the mini golf, which is a nice extra. It is next to Wal-Mart which is convenient. We would stay here again when in the area but I wish they would go back to accepting Passport. $36.00 seemed a little high since they had a lot of open sites while we were here. We camped at Cypress Campground & RV Park in a Motorhome.
