Duke's Slickrock Grill, Campground and RV Park, Hanksville, Utah

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

We used this park while we explored the area and Capitol Reef NP. It was clean and had full hookups. It also had a very nice, grassy area for tents. Sites are all in "large parking lot" type area with a few trees common to this arid part of Utah. Restroom and showers looked nice. There was a laundromat, gift shop, and free wifi. There is also a restaurant on the property. We camped at Duke's Slickrock Grill, Campground and RV Park in a Motorhome.

AOK Camper Park, Amarillo, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $13.00
Overall Rating:

This is a no frills place which is OK for an overnight stay. Most of park is full timers. Since there are no reservations and we got last open spot at 4 pm, you need a back up plan just in case! Looked like maybe 4 overnight spots open when we left the next morning. Hookups worked well and we were able to level easily despite potholes and ruts. Might be a mess if it's raining since sites are mostly dirt pull throughs. Good Verizon coverage and OTA TV channels. As others said, it's on the honor system, just put your money in envelope provided. We camped at AOK Camper Park in a Motorhome.

Trailer Village (Concessionnaire Operated), Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Great location (and only big rig facility) right in national park. Shuttle stops at campground so you can get around easily. Sites were nice and level. Our only complaint was cable TV service didn't work since we have an older rv. So we attended and enjoyed Grand Canyon nightly programs instead. Wish they would give discount if you can't use cable TV. Our site was not long enough for our 40' motor home and toad. There were some sites that seemed longer however. Might want to specifically request that if needed. Definitely have reservations. It was full every night! We camped at Trailer Village (Concessionnaire Operated) in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Take shuttle as get off at all the overlooks to Hermits Rest. Gorgeous. Drive and stop at overlooks on way to Desert View. Lots of level paths for older hikers like us. Ranger Ron gives awesome Ranger talks (fire; geology). We also enjoyed history tour at 10 am. We spent 3 days and used it all.

Cochise Terrace RV Resort, Benson, Arizona

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice rv park with lots of amenities. Most are seasonal visitors, but there is a nice area for travelers. We were even given a free dinner on our first night there in the clubhouse (pulled pork sandwiches). It has wifi that worked fairly well. Sites are asphalt and level. There is a tree at every site. There is also a pool and laundry (didn't use either). Our only complaint is the cable tv doesn't work with older motorhomes even with the loaned equipment. That was they only reason we gave it a 9 instead of a 10. We would definitely stay there again. We camped at Cochise Terrace RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Canyon de Chelly National Monument, Cottonwood Campground, Chinle, Arizona

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

This was a very nice spot to stay to visit Canyon de Chelly. This campground is on the Navajo reservation and offers NO hookups. Cash only. It is shaded and well laid out. Some bathrooms and water are turned off during winter so check your dates and make sure to have your water tank full. We were there at the end of March and some were still closed. Actually it snowed lightly on March 31st. Many sites are short, but we were able to find spot for our 40' motorhome. We camped at Canyon de Chelly National Monument, Cottonwood Campground in a Motorhome.

Ballard RV Park, Thompson, Utah

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Nice spot about 30 miles outside of busy Moab. Campsites were spacious and hook ups were easy to use. Our only complaint was it difficult to get front of motorhome high enough to level rv. Check out the weekly rate if staying 5 or more days. Owner was very helpful. We camped at Ballard RV Park in a Motorhome.

Sun Valley RV Resort (formerly Root 66 RV Park), Sun Valley, Arizona

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

Nice facility for this area in n. Arizona desert. Great for a one nighter. Owners are working hard to provide extras. They have nice laundry, book exchange, clubhouse and outside deck, outside patio, playground and even pet wash available. Sites are gravel and nice and level. No trees just desert. There is some road noise since it is just off I-40. Our only complaint was the water. It had sulfur smell and discolored at times. They assured the water was fine however. Didn't learn about this until after using it. Would like to have known this at check in. We changed water filters to be safe. We camped at Sun Valley RV Resort (formerly Root 66 RV Park) in a Motorhome.

Indian Skies RV Park (55+ park), Coolidge, Arizona

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $19.00
Overall Rating:

This was a great park close to Casa Grande ruins. We only stayed one night so we didn't get to appreciate all the amenities. It is mostly for full timers or those who spend the season here. They have nice gravel area in the back for travelers with all those sites being pull throughs. They have lovely concrete pads right at your doorstep. We used the laundry and were pleased. $1.25 wash, $1.00 dry. Gate locks at 6 pm so take that gate code with you! WiFi was available but we didn't use it. We camped at Indian Skies RV Park (55+ park) in a Motorhome.

Fort Stockton RV Park, Fort Stockton, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

This was a great overnight stop as we traveled through Texas. Easy access off I-10. Nice long pull through. Friendly and easy check in. Laundry was nice and reasonably priced. Propane was available and easy to access. We ate at the café. Food was good but a little overpriced and too salty for my taste. We camped at Fort Stockton RV Park in a Motorhome.

Guadalupe River State Park (GRSP), Spring Branch, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

We enjoyed our stay here. We love state parks and the secluded nature settings. This park gave us all that plus a lovely river! Reservations are not site specific so you get the best that's available. We were fortunate to get a large site for our 40' motorhome. It was nice and private and fairly quiet even though it was spring break week. No cell or 4G service on Verizon. I was able to text but rarely could complete a call. Time to enjoy back to nature! We got some OTA TV channels. I loved the Honey Creek ranger hike--don't miss it. It is on Saturdays, but I got lucky because they had an extra one due to spring break. My husband tried some fishing but spring breakers throwing rocks ruined that. Be advised that Texas parks require a $7 entrance fee per person per day. That actually increases the camping price to $38 for 2 people which is a lot for no sewer. I bought a Texas park pass ($70) since we were camping in another state park to help cut the cost a little. We camped at Guadalupe River State Park (GRSP) in a Motorhome.

We used this as a base to visit San Antonio. It was worth the 45 minute drive to be out of the city and in the country. Don't miss Old West Burgers on Rte 46 in Bulverde--delicious burgers and fries. Great gas prices at Walmart at intersection of Hwy 291 and 46.

Midway Park COE, Waco, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $12.00
Overall Rating:

We love stopping at COE parks! They are lovely and we enjoy being near water. This one is on Waco Lake. Check in was smooth and easy. There are a number of pull throughs and they are closer to the highway but we chose that instead of one closer to the lake for convenience. The hookups were toward the back of the site so there wasn't enough room to leave the car hooked up. We were spending 2 nights and touring Waco so that wasn't a big problem. We just couldn't hook it up the night before to be ready to go. Our motorhome is well insulated so the road noise didn't bother us. If you have an America the Beautiful Pass, the price can't be beat! This is a small park so make your reservations early! We camped at Midway Park COE in a Motorhome.

Gulf Coast RV Resort, Beaumont, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

This was a nice park for a one night stay. We expected sites to be close together, but were thankful for a pull through. It was nice to get off the rough road (I-10) and relax. The laundry facility was nice and spacious with 2 tables for folding. $1.25 per wash. There is a pool that looked inviting and sparkling clean. They provided a free breakfast which is quite unique. Similar to a breakfast at a nice motel. I loved the biscuits and gravy and hard boiled eggs. Waffles were also available. Campground is easy to get in and out of and very close to the interstate. Our motorhome is well insulated so the traffic noise didn't bother us at all. Lots of extras available but we only spent one night so we did not use the exercise room or book exchange. Showers were private and clean. We camped at Gulf Coast RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Fairview Riverside State Park, Madisonville, Louisiana

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

We loved this park. I would give it a 10 if it had sewer! Check in was easy and the setting was peaceful with many trees. Sites were spread apart well. Some sites are near the river which had a nice boardwalk and hiking trail. This park is located right next to subdivisions and gated communities, but is an oasis in a populated area. It rained a lot the first night and grassy area around our site was wet and muddy for a while. We camped at Fairview Riverside State Park in a Motorhome.

Bass Haven Campground, Defuniak Springs, Florida

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

This is a lovely, peaceful setting for a campground. We only stayed one night but enjoyed being beside a lake. We made a reservation so we were able to get a pull through. There are only 2 pull throughs and you share the electric. One gets 50A and one gets 30A. We were able to use the 30A since it wasn't very hot yet. This park is not too far off I-10 and we were able to navigate the local roads just fine. Fishing off the dock was available but difficult since the water was full of grass and weeds around the dock. We camped at Bass Haven Campground in a Motorhome.

We loved this COE campground. It is a wonderful place for family camping. Sites are spacious and grassy and shaded. The lake is beautiful has a number of boat ramps and is good for fishing and boating. The sites were paved and level. We had a concrete picnic table and fire ring. We only stayed one night since we were on our way home, but we would definitely stay here again. We camped at Rocky Point COE (Fort Gibson Lake) in a Motorhome.
