Harbor Vista Park, Florence, Oregon

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Major complaint was power surges. Were told by host that we were in 'old part' of CG. Site pad was sloped; puddles when raining. Wi-Fi, Cable not yet installed. No check in process go directly to site. Picnic table too heavy to move. Reception for sat tv varied from site to site, heavily wooded in some areas. Close to jetty to watch fishing boats. From female perspective, bathroom unsatisfactory -- entry door did not close, just shower curtains -- would not use again (primarily for rinsing off after beach time). Might return again if in area and specific sites available. We camped at Harbor Vista Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Go to Mo's on the wharf for great clam chowder and blackened salmon; may be a line but wait should be short. Mini golf at Sunland Adventures was a blast! Check out the interesting Darlingtonia plant just north of town. Lunch buffet at Three Rivers casino was yummy. 37th St. Laundromat in Florence was very clean and one of best on 9-wk OR trip.

Silver Falls State Park, Sublimity, Oregon

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

If your family does not do hiking/biking and likes to watch news/tv, have sat tv, Wi-Fi and cell service this state park is not for you, particularly in the A loop (heavily wooded) (better reception may be possible in some B loop sites) (we watched a lot of videos). Little privacy between sites side to side or behind. Major problem was distance from town to do anything/shop -- winding roads to/from Silverton (did see a lot of Christmas tree farms). Campground hosts were friendly; campfire programs were just ok -- good for something to do; one was on bears but last bear sighted in park was 20 yrs or more. Park was popular with families on weekends. If in the area again, we would stay in a park in Silverton. We camped at Silver Falls State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Check out the numerous murals in Silverton on buildings. Oregon Garden was beautiful with fall flowers and veg garden. Several of the falls can be accessed from parking areas; picnic area in day use was busy on weekend. The OR state capitol bldg. in Salem is beautiful; enjoyed the tour. Food from Adam's Rib Smokehouse was delish!

Netarts Bay Garden RV Resort, Tillamook, Oregon

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

The rate reflects cost/day for weekly rate. Our check-in was quick and pleasant altho we were there before the official check-in time. This is an RV park, not a resort, altho activities may have been different than the area we were in. We enjoyed our stay here particularly with the secure WiFi, VERY clean bathrooms/showers, and the ability to signup for specific times to use laundry area. Yes, the park's sites are narrow and areas crowded, but when you are open for only a ltd number of months, you get the most in that you can. We had no problem backing in to site; the slope at rear made one cautious going in/out of rear of RV. In August many people are in park to crab fish or escape the heat from home. Per our choice, we were guided to our site. We were able to have a box of mail sent here which was delivered to our site. While they could have been annoying, the local roosters in the a.m. are much better than all day freight trains! Many returnees who live in the state come to escape hot weather. We would certainly return when in the area and would consider a long-term stay. We camped at Netarts Bay Garden RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Go to Tillamook Cheese factory in evening when less crowded and better parking, Latimer Textile Ctr, Air Museum, Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad (in Garibay). Go to the bay area to watch beautiful sunsets with your jerky from the Beef Jerky outlet in Bay City. For a haircut Shear Bliss staff friendly and skilled. Play the Bay Breeze miniature golf course, across from Tillamook Cheese factory. It's on natural grass and good luck on hole 17!

Iron Horse RV Resort, Elko, Nevada

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

This park was difficult to find due to limited signage at street entrance (rock with name); it is between the Hilton Garden and the Comfort Inn (look for large sign along I-80 to find). Needed a place for one night while waiting for new wheel for rig. Back-in sites were only $34/night but pull-throughs at $48 easier. Spaces wide on concrete but mostly w/o shade; if staying in summer will be hot. Park has many long-term residents (with newer rigs) for those working for gold mining industry in area but one of best parks in area. Staff were pleasant at check in process and accommodating for our possible need to extend stay. We camped at Iron Horse RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Mountain Shadows RV Park, Wells, Nevada

Date of Stay: September, 2015 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Staff very helpful at check-in and with need for assistance to help finding tire business in area. Had an pull-through end site, making it easy to get in/out. Many in park work for gold mining industry but were friendly although some rigs are older. Park full by evening. Bathrooms/showers were very clean. Would stay at park when in area again. We camped at Mountain Shadows RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Market is nearby but did not need; library across the street. Although largest town in area, there are limited businesses in area. If you need specialized work for rig/tow vehicle Elko is best destination.

Gold Dust West Carson City RV Park, Carson City, Nevada

Date of Stay: September, 2015 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Park was easy to find on Hwy 50 just off Hwy 395. Parking for check-in is next to laundry/shower building; check in at hotel. Spaces in park are narrow, as are roads; use caution when turning from rows to exit; might need a 'spotter' to make sure you clear garbage area if not in back row (with a 32 ft 5-er was tight from an inside row). Wi-Fi adequate in space near pet walk. Would suggest taking a flashlight if coming back from casino area after dark as lighting walking to RV area very limited. We camped at Gold Dust West Carson City RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The Mexican café in casino was adequate with limited menu but margarita was good. Husband found slot machines were 98% penny ones.

Camp A Way, Lincoln, Nebraska

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for 15 days due to a family member's decline in health. The staff were very accommodating to our needs, working to fit us in with only 2 nights notice and then making room for us to stay an extra night. You are guided to your site by a staff member -- the only time that happened on a 6 wk trip. We were across from one of the workampers who shared with us tomatoes from their garden. Our dog loved the dog park area and watching the many squirrels near our site. While just off the interstate, it was quiet (a/c may have helped with noise!) We camped at Camp A Way in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Check out the Lincoln sites -- State Capitol bldg., Sunken Gardens, Quilt Museum, Larsen Tractor museum. Travel to Omaha for the Henry Dorley zoo and to Beatrice to the Homestead museum, each an hr away. They have special rates for Nebr. football home games. Want ice cream? Go to the Dairy store on the UNL east campus!

Wagon Wheel Campground & Cabins, West Yellowstone, Montana

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $56.00
Overall Rating:

The camp host, is a wealth of information about West Yellowstone, things to do, places to go and where to eat!! This is one of the best RV parks in West Yellowstone; you are parked among pine trees. Other parks are crowded with no shade. The bath/showers were always clean as well as the laundry area, with the cheapest wash/dry we experienced. We were in a pull-thru site near the street and it was always quiet at night. The only negative is the cost of cabins in campground where family members stayed. While nice, nearby motels may have been cheaper. We camped at Wagon Wheel Campground & Cabins in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Take the time to drive out to Earthquake Lake and tour the visitor center. On the way, arrive early and have breakfast at the Campfire Lodge Resort (or go trout fishing there also). Continue on out to Virginia City to tour a restored gold mining town. We also found it best to fuel up at the end of day when returning to camp and not in a.m. -- too many others doing the same thing.
