Lone Star Jellystone Park, Waller, Texas

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $70.00
Overall Rating:

The park's water features are fairly nice and offer a variety of options for children from 2 - adult. However, we noted black algae growing in the entrance of the lazy river and the bathrooms were totally nasty. The camping/cabin facilities are awful. The roads are too narrow and bumpy, there is absolutely no signage instructing ways to enter or exit the park, the RV sites are mostly dirt and not maintained and all the sites are too closely spaced. They advertise that they accommodate big rigs, but the roads are almost too narrow for big rigs to navigate. When the park is fully occupied, there is no room on the roads for big rigs to move through the park. I am surprised they are allowed to associate themselves with Jellystone Parks. They fall well below the Jellystone Parks standard and are not worth the premium price they charge. We camped at Lone Star Jellystone Park in a Motorhome.

DiamondJacks Casino and Resort, Bossier City, Louisiana

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

We have stayed in several casino RV parks for easy overnight stays, and this was one of the nicest casino RV parks we have seen. The roads and sites are all paved / concrete, they are very level and have ample space between sites. The sites have grass, trees and picnic tables. It is close to the highway and we did hear some highway noise, but it was nothing the A/C couldn't drown out. We were parked across from the office so we did not hear any of the trains, even though there was a track close to the park. We would definitely stay again. We camped at DiamondJacks Casino and Resort in a Motorhome.

Shadow Mountain RV Park & Campground, Mena, Arkansas

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

The roads and sites are all gravel and the sites were level. The park is in a country setting, with lots of trees and a fishing lake down the hill. It also has a nice well-kept pool. It is quiet and a very nice place for a peaceful stay. The manager was very nice and helpful. The office / manager's site is the only eyesore in the park and needs some serious work. We enjoyed our overnight stay and would return. We camped at Shadow Mountain RV Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

Wanderlust RV Park, Eureka Springs, Arkansas

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This is a wonderful place to stay while you enjoy the natural beauty and attractions that Eureka Springs has to offer. The park is very quiet and has absolutely no road noise or bright lighting. The park roads and sites are gravel. Every site has nice trees (very tall, so no interference with satellite disks) and picnic tables. Some sites seem a little close, but our site was quite spacious. We had ample room for our 44' Motor home and wot. There is a nice pool and meeting room and while there are no walkways in the park, the quiet setting is very nice and perfect for walks. The park provides many views of the beautiful mountains. The location is great. It is very convenient to the Passion Play and Jesus statue. We were parked at the end of the park and could literally see the top of the Christ of the Ozark statue from our RV window. The park staff were very nice and helpful. They took us to our site and stayed until we got everything up and running. We camped at Wanderlust RV Park in a Motorhome.

Riverside RV Resort & Campground, Bartlesville, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

This is a friendly little park that has a great atmosphere. It borders the river and there are many riverside sites. The owners are very friendly and go out of their way to make sure you are happy. The park is all gravel, but all sites are level and shaded by trees. There is lovely landscaping throughout. There is a pool, which is showing signs of age, but otherwise kept nice and clean. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Riverside RV Resort & Campground in a Motorhome.

Air Capital RV Park, Wichita, Kansas

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This is a no-frills park with two very different sections. Avoid spots 61-90. We chose this park because of its high Good Sam ratings and its website materials. Both are misleading. For starters, the pictures on their website are from only the front half of the park. They do NOT show the back half, which is sandwiched next to a commercial building, a motel and parking lots and seems oddly similar to parking in a Walmart parking lot. We were assigned there and were shocked at the difference in perspective. Our rating reflects our experience in this section of the park. To make matters worse, we were assigned a site intended for a travel trailer, even though they knew we were in a 44' motorhome and needed a level site. After multiple tries, and finally salvaging timber from around the site, we finally were able to get our rig level, but the setup was very poor. When we confronted the person at the front desk she did not understand that the site was inadequate. Finally, we spoke to other staff members (and perhaps the owner) who acknowledged the problem and apologized. They had no other spots available. To the management's credit, they did attempt to find us another spot, but by that point, we had made other arrangements. We will not stay here again. We camped at Air Capital RV Park in a Motorhome.

Twin Fountains RV Park, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This park was one of the prettiest parks we have seen. Despite being inside the city, it has a very isolated feel and is very quiet. The roads and sites are all paved and easy to navigate. The grounds are beautifully landscaped with ample trees, and picnic tables and fire pits in most sites. The grounds have rolling hills, but the RV sites are level. The amenities are very nice. The pool is very good but the hot tub is a bit small. Given the size of the park, they really could use a second hot tub. While we were there, the heater wasn't working, but they were actively trying to get it up and running. The fountain was also under construction work which was a bit of an eyesore, but the park was so lovely it was a minor distraction. The staff is very friendly and exceptionally helpful. There are many restaurants and attractions within a few miles of the park. We camped at Twin Fountains RV Park in a Motorhome.

Texan RV Ranch, Mansfield, Texas

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This is a nice park option. Overall, we had a good overnight experience and would return. The location is nice - it is just outside the city and very quiet. They were able to accommodate our big rig, but the sites are a little close and we had to unhook our tow to exit our site. It has a full compliment of amenities, except for no hot tub) and is well maintained. There are small trees on each site and plenty of grassy area with tables. The sites are set up so the utilities are shared with the adjacent site and the picnic area is shared on the other side. It seems a little less private in that setup. We camped at Texan RV Ranch in a Motorhome.

Katy Lake RV Resort, Katy, Texas

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

This is a nice park, with a good location close to Katy shopping, restaurants and entertainment. The facility is gated and well off the road, so it is secluded and quiet, despite being well inside Katy city limits. The game room and pool and hot tub area are excellent and there is a nice concrete walkway around the lake perfect for nice walks.

The management is generally attentive, although they attempted to put us on a short site even through we paid for the longer site. When we complained, they moved us, but it appeared they were trying to short us for what we have properly paid for. The water pressure and hook ups were good. Wifi was inconsistent and often did not work. We camped at Katy Lake RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Sugar Sands RV Resort, Gulf Shores, Alabama

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This was a return trip to Sugar Sands RV resort. This time, we stayed a week and had time to enjoy the area. The park is immaculate, the pool very inviting, the shower/bathroom facilities spotless, and the laundry facilities are good. The location of this park is great - close to the beach areas and lots of restaurants, groceries and shopping. Great option for enjoying all that Gulf Shores has to offer! We camped at Sugar Sands RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Ameristar Vicksburg RV Park, Vicksburg, Mississippi

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

The sites are gravel and wifi is unreliable. They use minimal gravel and when it rains, there are mud puddles everywhere. The staff is friendly.

The location is very convenient to I-20. The hotel and casino next door are very nice and there is a shuttle that runs between all the properties that is very prompt. The casino is nice, has good food and is not run down like many non-Vegas options. It is located right on the Mississippi and offers some pretty views.

If you are looking for a place to stop have access to entertainment and dining options without driving, and don't mind the average condition of the RV park, this is a good choice. We camped at Ameristar Vicksburg RV Park in a Motorhome.

River Country Campground, Gadsden, Alabama

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

This park is located right on the river in Gadsden. Even if you do not get a river side site, you will enjoy beautiful river views. We were in a pull-through site and enjoyed a nice view of the river from inside our RV. There is a nice walking path along the river with swings along the path to sit and relax. The sites are spacious and the utilities work well. (Good water pressure and wifi.) The roads and sites are all gravel and not particularly smooth.

The pools in the park are exceptional. There are three pools (including an infinity pool and a zero-entry child's pool) and a splash pad, all enclosed in a fenced area and located right by the river. Best pools anywhere! We camped at River Country Campground in a Motorhome.

Stone Mountain Park Campground, Stone Mountain, Georgia

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

There were lots of positives and negatives to this campsite, but overall our experience was a good one.

- The signage in the park is nonexistent. If you don't have a map, you will never know where the campground is. It is a couple of miles past the west entrance of the park.

- The park sent us an email a couple of days in advance reminding us of the low clearance level on the east gate and directions on how to get to the west gate. Nice action on their part.

- The roads inside the campgrounds are badly in need of repair. Driving slow is a must, even without the rig.

- Lots of sites, so look closely before you book. The sites are on hills, and elevation is not indicated, so it is easy to get one that is on a incline or low spot. We chose a site far from the office because it looked less crowded, not covered by trees and had a view of the lake. We had no problems backing in our 34' rig and satellite worked great.

- Forget WiFi. It never worked. Fortunately, Stone Mountain is close enough to Atlanta to get good cell coverage so we used our cellular data lines.

- The pool is small, but nice. We were lucky enough to be there mid-week after school started so it was completely empty. But it closes at 6. Why a campground would close a pool that early is beyond me.

- The shower / bathroom facilities were old and unattractive. One look and I never used them.

- There is the Stone Mountain entrance fee of $15 that is not included in the camping price. Irritating but to be expected.

- There is no better access to Stone Mountain Park than this campground. Despite the negatives, the sites are beautiful and it is really convenient to move around the park from this campground. We camped at Stone Mountain Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Oak Plantation Campground, Charleston, South Carolina

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

This was a very nice park. The roads were well-maintained and the sites were spacious and level. The staff is very helpful and friendly and do a good job handling things at the park. The park is quite large but there is only one laundry room with four washers and two driers in the front of the property - another laundry room in the back of the property would be really good. The pool is quite nice and is located at the front of the property, so if you are in the back section, it is quite a walk to the pool. The location of the park is great - 15 minutes from Charleston and the beach. We camped at Oak Plantation Campground in a Motorhome.

Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground, Swannanoa, North Carolina

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $63.00
Overall Rating:

This park is amazing. The sites are immaculate, the shower and laundry facilities well supplied and clean, wifi works well and consistently, the water pressure is good and the staff is very helpful and friendly. We stayed in one of the mountain top views with a deck that included a wooden swing, picnic table and grill. The deck was built into the side of the hill so the back of it was literally 20 feet off the ground. The view was amazing and totally worth the effort it took to get to the top site.
The mountain sites are hard to reach, but the staff members are expert at escorting you up the hill. They even convinced us not to unhook our tow knowing exactly how much space we would need to make the turns up the hill.

I strongly recommend this RV park if you are looking for that special place to enjoy the glorious mountains near Asheville. You will not be disappointed! We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Motorhome.
