Traverse City State Park, Traverse City, Michigan

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

The "value" totally depends on what site you get. Be prepared to need or bring an extension for your electrical cord. The first site we booked was 21. The electrical boxes were way too far from our RV hookup, no matter what we tried. The campground had 2 extension cords but they had already been lent out. The ranger called Home Depot and found one for us but it was $50! Thankfully, the ranger moved us to another site where we had to park our RV on an angle to reach our cord but it worked. The site was unlevel, but not a problem for our hydraulic jacks. The awning couldn't come all the way out. The interior roads can be a little tight but as long as everyone parked their vehicles off of the interior road then you should be OK. The bike trail was awesome! We enjoyed riding to Moomer's ice cream at east bay pizza and riding our bikes to downtown Traverse. There is a pedestrian overpass to walk to the beach. We didn't see the playground, but there are playgrounds off of the bike trail, including a great one at the pizza place. The site was tough at first, but once we were in our site this turned out GREAT! We camped at Traverse City State Park in a Motorhome.

St Ignace / Mackinac Island KOA, St Ignace, Michigan

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $53.00
Overall Rating:

When I explained my frustration to the lady at the desk about trying to find a suitable site, she said "This campground was built 45 years ago. Not for todays campers". The campground is from 45 years ago. The sites are horrible. We booked a backin 30 amp, but the site that we were given had trees blocking us from opening our awning. The lady at the counter politely gave us 3 other options. We drove around twice and still did not see the other options as a suitable option, either the site was oddly small for our 31 foot RV or the hookups were spread too far apart or, again, the trees were blocking us from opening slide outs or the awning. We asked about the Pull Thru or the other backin sites and were told they were $13 MORE a night because they were 50 AMP $53/night). We finally decided to upgrade to a 50 AMP backin for $13/ more a night, but after our KOA discount then it wasn't as bad. The pull thru sites looked worse. The backin site that we selected had the electrical on the right side, the water spicket in the back and the sewer hookup on the left side near the front of the RV. Thankfully all of our hoses reached but we had cords and hoses everywhere. We stayed here for the "free shuttle". The "free shuttle" is provided by the ferry, so we really could have stayed anywhere else to get the free shuttle. Rusted dangerous looking pieces of metal in the playground. I couldn't even let my toddler play on them. I wouldn't stay here again because they need to lower prices to justify what you get, they need to put money back into the campground, they need a new playground area and they need to cut down and remove some trees to make the sites work better. This should not be a KOA. We camped at St Ignace / Mackinac Island KOA in a Motorhome.

Happy Acres Kampground, Bristol, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

The site was not good. We expected a better looking environment and updated equipment for how much we paid plus the place looked all booked up, meaning they are making good money here. They do not put any of the money back into the campground. It is a dump. We got a 30 amp premium site $45. Nothing premium about it, not even full hookup. No concrete slab. Weeds were everywhere. Bugs were everywhere. One couple left because the tiny stinging bees were so bad.

We did like walking by the animals. The animals looked good except the duck area and peacock area was very dirty and poorly kept. The fun zone is an additional $20/weekend per child. A can of pop was $1.35. We got two cookie ice creams and a generic bumper sticker for $10! The playgrounds weren't playgrounds, it was an old swing set, an old merry go round, etc., in the middle of a weed/mud filled area. The playgrounds were untouchable due to dirt and many had broken pieces and splinters.

The lake/beach was a swamp. The beach area is very tiny with dirty mud type sand. There are weeds everywhere. The pool is very small and cloudy. I cannot believe the price at this place. I really wanted to like this place. We camped at Happy Acres Kampground in a Motorhome.

New Orleans West KOA, River Ridge, Louisiana

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $56.00
Overall Rating:

The Kamp workers were very nice. The gentleman that helped us back in our 31-ft motorhome did a perfect job on the first try! The shuttle fills up fast and you have to be checked in before you can sign up for the shuttle. We do not tow a car. This is why we chose the campground was because of the free shuttle. We had to use the Uber driver that lived at the KOA. He was $5 cheaper than the taxi each way, but he was such a joy to use that we gave him a very large tip. I wish we didn't sign up for any excursions because this gentleman gave us a nice tour of the city and the information was great! Save your money! My daughter enjoyed the little playground. The pool looked dirty but it was still early in the season. All of the workers were polite and courteous. It is definitely safe. We camped at New Orleans West KOA in a Motorhome.

Pigeon Forge / Gatlinburg KOA, Pigeon Forge, Tennessee

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $53.00
Overall Rating:

I really liked how this campground was right next door to the trolley service plus there was a really nice/busy park next door. If you are a runner, it had a 1/2 mile track that you could run on! When we arrived, I asked the girl to look up my KOA membership number. Her response "I'm new, I'm not sure how to do that". She tried and succeeded, but obviously hadn't been trained well. The kid who drove us to our campsite put us in the wrong one. We paid for full hookup so we had to hunt for our site then move-LOL. They have a nice gym on site. The campground was not full, however if it was, I could see these sites being really really tight! We camped at Pigeon Forge / Gatlinburg KOA in a Motorhome.

Deerlick Creek COE, Tuscaloosa, Alabama

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

The host was very polite. He even changed our spot to give us a view of the dam. We have a toddler. I wouldn't recommend this place with small children because of how the sites are designed. They are like cliffs. You have a concrete pad with a wood deck but beyond that it falls off into the woods/water. Thankfully, we brought our toddler's locking gate pieces, therefore we were able to block most of the wooden deck with the RV and the rest we used the gate to block access of her being out and running around. It was quiet and cozy. It was a little scary backing in, but once there, then it is great! It is a bit of a drive from the highway. We used this as an overnight stay coming from New Orleans and headed to Pigeon Forge. It was perfect for that! We camped at Deerlick Creek COE in a Motorhome.

Freeport / Durham KOA, Durham, Maine

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

This place was cute and you could tell the owner put a lot of effort into the grounds or the people that stay there care about their surroundings. We stayed in front of the playground and you could see cute decorated areas. If you stay there, you will know what I mean. The owner was wonderful to talk to! He has inspired us to be campground owners. The store was really cute with lots of items for sale and a log cabin feel. There were some potholes coming in. I wish campgrounds would get those fixed. We ran into worse ones at other KOAs. Maybe it's a KOA thing! You are very close to Freeport downtown and downtown has RV parking! We just loved this area. He has ponies too and he is going to have a little farm setup, maybe next year! How great for kids. We had no issues with the WiFi. The dump station wasn't fully working because they had a problem with the water line when it froze a couple of nights before we arrived. We camped at Freeport / Durham KOA in a Motorhome.

Meadowlark Park, Middletown, Rhode Island

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $58.00
Overall Rating:

The reviews on this web site are starting to bother me. We have never ran into a severe problem where I'd give a bad review yet. I almost blew this place off because of the reviews. I called the lady on the phone to explain my fears and she made me feel comfortable to drive from Fisherman's Campground, 24 miles, to here. We got here and everything is "fine". She was very nice. She had a packet of info all ready to go for me. We have hydraulic jacks, so we had no problem leveling. They will even help you back in, if needed. You are close to 2nd and 3rd beach. It was "OK". We had no problem leveling. It's not a "beautiful" site. There are a lot of trailer homes, but nobody bothered us. We left our RV alone for hours and we had no issues. I never heard a peep out of anyone. The sites can be rather close together but you are here to explore not to "relax and enjoy" at your RV. We have a 31 foot RV with two slideouts and an awning. If you park just right, then we can easily let our slideouts out and put the awning out. There is no play ground, but there is a cute trail with a windmill right next door. The owner said they had a goal to put in a playground this past year, but had plumbing issues that ate up the budget. They really need a little playground. Our 1.5 year old loved running the beaches. Get the Good Sam discount and rent a car! You'll be fine. We camped at Meadowlark Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

You are very close to Enterprise rent a car where they "pick you up". We rented a car to go to Newport, which wasn't that far, but we wanted to do the 10 mile drive so we needed the car. We went to Anthony's seafood, which is practically "down the road" from the campground. This was featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.

BTW: The Enterprise rent a car is open later on Saturday and OPEN on Sunday which is very rare for Enterprise! If you don't want to rent a car, then do a tour. Stay here to explore, then stay at Fisherman's in Narragansett to enjoy, save money and fish.

Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park, Niagara Falls, Ontario

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

We had no bad experiences. It wasn't a packed campground. It had a basketball court, playground, swimming pool, and the big bouncy thing for the kids. They had lots of activities going on for kids, but we didn't take advantage of them. We stayed two nights. We used the shuttle to Niagara Falls. I think it was $7 per person. We didn't have any problems leveling. We camped at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park in a Motorhome.

34 Ranch Campground, Herod, Illinois

Date of Stay: September, 2015 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

We loved it! We were the only ones there. It's pretty much a campground on someone's farm land. There were cows in the distance and you could tell that other campers must bring their horses. There was covered horse poop. My 1.5 year old fell in the grass into horse poop twice. I consider it a great experience for her. We felt very safe even though we were alone. We blasted music and enjoyed the creek right next to our camper. The owner helped us to find a spot. He was very nice. We had a level site. It was very spacious. It was literally a farmland type setup. We camped at 34 Ranch Campground in a Motorhome.

Two Rivers Campground, Nashville, Tennessee

Date of Stay: September, 2015 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

We had no severe issues. The internet barely worked.. it pretty much didn't work. I'd stay here again. Excellent location to tour Nashville without a car. Shuttle bus was $10 per person roundtrip. Excellent service. I thought the spaces were a good size, nothing too close but close enough. It did rain a lot and the "road" turned into a lake but it drained quickly and it did not directly affect us. Spot we had was level. We camped at Two Rivers Campground in a Motorhome.

D & W Lake Camping and RV Park, Champaign, Illinois

Date of Stay: September, 2015 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

The owners are great! They drove us to our campsite and helped us to back in. They have a wonderful little park that circles a pond. We liked it a lot! We even got free breakfast! They provide free breakfast after "at home" games. It's clean, level lots and spacious. We didn't have sewer hookup at our site. I looked at other sites with sewer hookup and they looked close to the RV. I had read another review on here that complained that the sewer line was far away.. I did not notice this at any site. They looked like there were multiple sewer lines, so maybe he was looking to hookup to the wrong one. We camped at D & W Lake Camping and RV Park in a Motorhome.
