Christies Campground, Newport, Maine

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

We stopped for a night on our way home from a trip to Nova Scotia. It is mid September, so the camp's residents were mostly seasonals. Seasonal sites occupy probably 70% of the campground, so if you are looking for a site in the height of the season you may want to call first.

We camped on site 22, right on Sebasticook Lake. The view was gorgeous and the site well maintained. There are only 7 lake sites and another 7 with front lake view out of 69. Lake front sites do not have sewer hook up. Full hook up sites are $30.00.

There are several docks and boat ramps and a small beach.

The owners were very nice and friendly. Our one night stay was uneventful and enjoyable.

The campground is conveniently located close to Hwy 95 and on Route 2 for travelers driving the scenic route East - West. We camped at Christies Campground in a Motorhome.

Lakeview Camping Resort, St. Agatha, Maine

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is a gem. Unfortunately, the most likely users will be Maine residents or Canadian tourists because St Agatha is far away from the tourist routes.

We drove 200 miles from the St Stephens border to see the beginning of US Route 1 on Fort Kent and to stop by the town of Madawaska, the most northeastern point of the US.

Going back to the camp, it is located on a hill overlooking Long Lake, and the view is nothing short than spectacular.

The campground itself is beautifully designed and maintained. We camped on site 44, with unobstructed view of the lake. It was spacious, full hook up and great wifi reception. We camped in mid September, so the park was not too crowded but I can imagine it being full the entire summer season. It has many amenities for the entire family enjoyment.

The owner was very nice and helpful as well as the office staff.

The campground also has the advantage of having a great restaurant on site. We had dinner there on a Tuesday night and the place was rocking! Clearly a local hangout. The menu was extensive, the food was great and we'll priced.

I am so glad we found it. It made the long drive worth it.

I. We camped at Lakeview Camping Resort in a Motorhome.

Rockwood Park, Saint John, New Brunswick

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This park is perfectly located for US travelers if they want to take a break from the long ride through Maine. It is located at Rockwood Park in the city of St John and right off the highway.

The campground itself is not fancy. There are some spacious semi-private sites (160 to be 190) but chances are that you may find your site on the main part of the campground, gravel, next to each other, no privacy, full hook up.

We had an unexpected delay on the road and arrived at the campground at 2.00 am. To our surprise, there was someone at the gate, who couldn't be nicer.

We also spent the night at the campground on our way back to the US. Both experiences were great, with the staff being helpful and accommodating.

After a long ride from Nova Scotia, it was such a pleasure to take our dog for a long walk on the beautiful Rockside Park, which among many great features, it has a doggie park. We camped at Rockwood Park in a Motorhome.

King Neptune Campground, Indian Harbour, Nova Scotia

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

The geographical location of this campground was perfect for us : between Halifax and Lunenburg and close to the highway.
The campground itself is on great ocean front real estate, but the lot is small so the sites were placed to maximize space. They are random and a bit crowded. Regardless, the location is great and the clientele was polite and respectful.
The camp is family run and they keep the business model simple : cash only, spot guaranteed reservations, actual sites are assigned on first come first serve basis. We camped at King Neptune Campground in a Motorhome.

Paradise Park Resort Campground, Old Orchard Beach, Maine

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Everything about this campground is perfect:

Location - Close to Portland. In between Kennebunkport and Cape Elizabeth. In walking distance from the beach, boardwalk, and pier. Couple of blocks away from the bike path that connects Portsmouth and Portland.

Campground - There is something for everyone. Two pools, playground, pond, woods, open sites, private sites, community center. The campground is well maintained.

Management - The owners are super nice, ever present, ever helpful.

Great value, better amenities than nearby campgrounds at better price. We camped at Paradise Park Resort Campground in a Motorhome.

Green Lakes State Park Campgrounds, Fayetteville, New York

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

The park itself is gorgeous and very well maintained.

We camped in the Pinewoods loop on site 20. This is a brand new site (opened on July 2016) and it is in impeccable condition. The sites' spacing is just right, there are pull thru and back in sites and the campground is just right off the trail to the lakes. Pet friendly!

The best sites are 2 (back in ) and 12 (pull thru). But you will not go wrong with any other site on the section 1- 24. We camped at Green Lakes State Park Campgrounds in a Motorhome.

Calusa Campground Resort and Marina, Key Largo, Florida

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $70.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is NOT a campground. It's a colony of 5th wheels parked permanently with enough space to park a boat or a car by their side. Most people have converted this space into some sort of living space that varies from carports to tiled and permanent structures. The property is divided by a canal lined with boats. The place is tight, over crowded, and incredibly noisy since playing music VERY LOUDLY in the RVs, boats, and monster trucks that cruise the narrow roads night and day seem to be the main pastime.

So if you come all the way to Key Largo looking for relaxing days, lovely sunsets and gentle tropical nights, STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE.

If you want to party, scream instead of talk, and pretty much experience what it is to live in a foreign colony, then you will love it.

Whatever you do, stay away from site 325. Even party people must sleep at some time, but this people play think they are running a 24/7 salsa club and the speakers are kept at their capacity all day long.

We were looking forward to enjoying the sunset. There is no place reserved for this purpose.

It is not a dog friendly place. You have to pay $5.00 fee per pet and there is not one inch of green space for the dog to do its thing. We camped at Calusa Campground Resort and Marina in a Motorhome.

Compass RV Park (formerly Indian Forest Campground), St Augustine, Florida

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Perfectly located, you can bike to historic St Augustin in 4 miles through bike paths.
The campground is surrounded by luscious tropical foliage, it is secluded, quiet and nicely kept.
The owners are super nice which is a plus.
Among some of the amenities you will find a dog park, a 1 mile hiking trail, a gorgeous pond, and a camp stage with performances on Saturday.
Just perfect for us! We camped at Compass RV Park (formerly Indian Forest Campground) in a Motorhome.

James Island County Park, Charleston, South Carolina

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We camped in a motorhome. We didn't have reservations and the staff was super helpful and flexible and found a way to accommodate us. (Reservations are a must, the campground is very popular ).
The sites are kind of close to each other, but there is so much foliage and mature trees around them that makes them much more private than what you see on the map.
The best part of the campground is the location. The park is incredibly beautiful, offering something for everyone. For me jogging and taking my dog to swim at the dog park was exactly what I wanted to do. Great trails, lakes, ponds and the best dog park ever! Also, it is 15 to 20 minutes from Charleston, an absolutely divine place. If we return to the area we will absolutely make sure to reserve 4 or 5 days instead of the 2 days we spent. Tons to do, need more time. We camped at James Island County Park in a Motorhome.

Paradise Park Resort Campground, Old Orchard Beach, Maine

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $49.00
Overall Rating:

Very conveniently located with easy access to Portland/Freeport on the north and Kennebunkport on the south. The campground is family owned and run and it is very well kept. There are several cottages and seasonal sites that are well kept and decorated in ways that add personality to the place.

The focal point of the campground is a beautiful pond fed by a creek. The trees and vegetation provide privacy in a big cross section of the sites. We camped there the first week of October and it was just perfect. We had the place for ourselves. I think in the tourist season peak I would choose a site more private like H-27 or H-26.

The staff was very nice. We would stay there again. We camped at Paradise Park Resort Campground in a Motorhome.

Bar Harbor / Oceanside KOA, Bar Harbor, Maine

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $86.00
Overall Rating:

The campground is located right on the ocean, so the views are very nice. If you are willing to pay $96 (w/o discount) for ocean front view, then this is your place. We visited in early October, so the campground's occupancy was lighter than normal. We were able to find an ocean front site without reservation due to the time of the year but we were told that these sites are pretty much impossible to get during the summer without reservations made months in advance.

This is a typical KOA, a "McCampground" with all the amenities as well as the tight sites and lack of privacy experience. It is nicely kept, clean, the staff is super nice and driving around the island and seeing what other campgrounds look like, this KOA is probably the smart choice.

Probably the very best site is 272, right on the ocean and away from other sites. We stayed in site 343 which I would probably say it ranks in the top 5. Overall, it was a nice experience because it was not too crowded or noisy. We camped at Bar Harbor / Oceanside KOA in a Motorhome.

Quechee / Pine Valley KOA, White River Junction, Vermont

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $47.00
Overall Rating:

Great location, super nice staff, neatly kept. We normally try to avoid KOA's for their size and tight spaces but this camp was a true and nice surprise. It is located in between Woodstock and White River Junction right off the expressway, the sites seem private and unique due to the woods and varied elevation they are set in. It does not feel, nor look like, the standard KOA with sites next to each other. Cottages are sprinkled across the entire campground, providing space and diversity to the experience.

We really liked this area of Vermont and we decide to explore it again, we will definitely stay here. We camped at Quechee / Pine Valley KOA in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Lovely place. It really offers an experience of relaxation and vacation. The camp is on the river shore surrounded by great foliage. There is a very nice beach and the grounds are nicely kept.

Since we were there at the end of September, the occupancy was low, which we loved.

The staff was very nice and the location was good, close to Old Forge.

We would definitely stay there again. We camped at Singing Waters Campground in a Motorhome.

Back-Achers Campsites & Cottage Rentals, Himrod, New York

Date of Stay: September, 2015 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

The camp is very well located if you are interested in exploring the Finger Lakes wineries. It is small and very unassuming, which we like. We tend to avoid the "mega-campgrounds". Most of the sites are occupied by seasonal campers so availability of sites is very limited. The best site is #1 for non seasonal camping. Plenty of space and not overlooking anyone else. There is no privacy, the sites are pretty much one next to the other.

We love the private beach and lake access. Very romantic and quiet. We would definitely stay there again sure we decide to go back to the Finger Lakes. We camped at Back-Achers Campsites & Cottage Rentals in a Motorhome.
