Pioneer RV Resort (55+ park), Phoenix, Arizona

Date of Stay: February, 2007 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for two months during the peak winter season, because we had waited too late to make reservations at some of the resort parks in the area. Unlike other RV parks in the area, this one had lots of empty spaces. The pull through spaces are just dirt with hookups, and the back in spaces are similar. The park is mostly park models or old trailers. The activities are very limited, bingo, bridge, trips to casinos, gospel singing, ice cream socials. The indoor swimming pool was cloudy the entire time, so we didn't use it. The staff is very courteous, but this park doesn't have much to offer, other than it's on the edge of town and convenient to freeways. We camped at Pioneer RV Resort (55+ park) in a Motorhome.

Gold Canyon Resort (55+ park), Gold Canyon, Arizona

Date of Stay: February, 2007 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

This is a senior oriented resort with mostly winter residents in park models. There are some RV spaces scattered throughout the resort. The spaces are quite wide, with a small cement patio. We were in the only space available that week, as the park fills up during winter months. The clubhouse is very nice, with a large, open area for billiards, and a nice pool area. There is a full schedule of social activities, dances, wine tasting, and entertainment. The staff was very friendly and courteous from the gate guard, to check-in to the person who escorted us to our site. They take only cash or check, no credit cards. The 9 hole Executive Golf Course was nicely maintained. This resort is on the far east edge of the Phoenix area, so there is not much around, but the views of the mountains and fresh air is wonderful. There is one supermarket nearby and a couple of western style steakhouses. Plus, it is just a mile from the Gold Canyon Golf Resort and Spa, so there is great golf nearby and restaurants at the resort. We will definitely return. We camped at Gold Canyon Resort (55+ park) in a Motorhome.

Salinas / Monterey KOA, Prunedale, California

Date of Stay: June, 2006 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This park is on the side of Hwy 101 and very noisy. The spaces are extremely narrow, with tall hedges between them. It was difficult to get our slides out without hitting the bushes. They say big rig friendly, but that is not the case. The photos in the ads are very misleading. It is just a parking lot sloping down a hill toward the freeway. We camped at Salinas / Monterey KOA in a Motorhome.
