Ocala National Forest / Salt Springs Rec Area, Fort McCoy, Florida

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

Forget the negative comments from the past pertaining to the staff. They must have new staff this year. They are very friendly and keep the place so clean and nice. I guess if you are noisy and trashy you might get noticed, but I just saw everyone having a great time. The full-service side of the campground is beautiful and clean, very "park-like". Lots of trees and grassy areas for kids to play. The primitive side wasn't so impressive. I guess it's called primitive for a reason! A short ride or walk on paved roads lead to the gorgeous clear spring. Great for swimming, snorkeling, or floating. But it's a chilly 72 degrees so be prepared if it's not a warm sunny day. Sites vary from open & sunny to wooded. Lots of grassy open areas between loops. I had NO complaints for our stay. We will definitely return! We camped at Ocala National Forest / Salt Springs Rec Area in a Motorhome.

Roan Mountain State Park, Roan Mountain, Tennessee

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

I hate to slam the place because I'm sure lots of people like places like this, judging by the crowded conditions! The campground is busy, crowded, noisy. There's little space between sites. Kids running everywhere. Trucks & cars jammed into sites & between sites. We pulled up to our site, took one look at the lack of space and privacy, and promptly left. We gave up our 2 day fee just to go find somewhere more suitable for us. Don't get me wrong... I have kids too, but just like a little more of a feeling of being "in the woods" when I camp.... Not jammed up with 100's of others! It looks like there's lots to do here, but if you like a little privacy & peace, keep looking. We camped at Roan Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

Grindstone Recreation Area Campground, Troutdale, Virginia

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Wonderful remote campground. Very well maintained. Fully wooded sites. Some are level; some are not. Beautiful setting in the woods, close to plenty of hiking, mountain biking trails. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and helped us change sites when we realized the one we picked online didn't suit our needs. Awesome motorcycling area if you bring your scoot. Remote location so don't expect to find shopping nearby. This place is a new favorite getaway for me. I will return! We camped at Grindstone Recreation Area Campground in a Motorhome.
