Southridge RV Park, Ozona, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Driving I10 across Texas we were forced to stop due to high wind. While Ozona, TX had a couple other RV parks we chose to stay here. It is a self serve RV park, no one there to greet you but someone did come around to collect their money. They do not take credit cards, only cash or checks. It is nothing more than a big dusty parking lot. Services worked well but it was hard to find the water hook ups under the collected dirt. We were glad to have stopped there, while not beautiful it gave us a rest from the wind. They have good WIFI and great cable hookups, even the premium stations. The other 2 parks in Ozona did not have Wifi or cable. Expensive for what it was. We camped at Southridge RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tucson / Lazydays KOA, Tucson, Arizona

Date of Stay: February, 2016 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

There are so many RV parks in the Tucson area it was hard to decide where to stay. We are very glad we chose the KOA. It is not quite as big as some of the other parks but has all the services. Wifi was good, better in some places than others, both Verizon & T-mobile worked well and good cable. Sites are close together but don't feel tight. There is a large dog run but it was very busy. Two pools and hot tubs. Loved them, water temp was perfect. There are citrus trees through out the park and you are welcome to pick and enjoy the fruit. A real treat for us snowbirds. It was warm while we were there and were lucky enough to park under their solar paneled awnings. It made it much easier to keep our rig cool in the shade. We did hear it was a little harder to get good satelite under the awnings but it didn't effect us. We camped at Tucson / Lazydays KOA in a Motorhome.

Hacienda RV Resort, Las Cruces, New Mexico

Date of Stay: February, 2016 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

While we only stayed here one night this was a perfect stop over from Texas to Tucson. All the amenities were good, wifi, cable, & cellphone service. They do have a dog run but it was too busy for us to use. Popular spot for RV groups and we could see why. One of the cleanest parks we have ever seen. Crew were constantly on duty keeping the sites perfect. We camped at Hacienda RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Maverick Ranch RV Park at Lajitas Resort, Lajitas, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2016 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

This is the place to stay while visiting Big Bend. Sites are well laid out so even though they are close you feel like you have more space. There is no cell service, limited cable and the wifi was only OK. The bathrooms and laundry are nice and club house was great. The pool was opened but too weather was too cold. We were there for SuperBowl and they had a gathering in the club house. We stayed about a week. We enjoyed the hiking on the resort trails. No dogs are allowed on the trails in the park but at the resort they are allowed on the trails. We did take advantage of the resort's workout room and their bar & grille. We camped at Maverick Ranch RV Park at Lajitas Resort in a Motorhome.

Marathon Motel and RV Park, Marathon, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2016 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Great place to stop to or from Big Bend National Park. While a small park the sites were big enough pull thrus for most rigs. The wifi was OK, Verizon OK, good cable, water and electric hook ups. Staff was friendly and helpful.. Not much else in Marathon, but we did hear there is one very good restaurant and a couple of good breakfast places. There is a RV repair shop in town should you need help with anything. We camped at Marathon Motel and RV Park in a Motorhome.

Sunset Point on Lake LBJ, Marble Falls, Texas

Date of Stay: December, 2015 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This is my second review of Sunset Point. We liked it so well after our first visit that we decided to spend two months there. Great place to be winter Texans. Perfectly taken care of, from the grounds to the bathrooms. Good staff, very helpful. Helped us find good restaurants, groomer for our dogs and a beauty salon. Nice clientele, quiet during the week and popular on weekends. It would be wonderful to spend time there during spring or fall when it is a little warmer. Don't need a pool, the lake looks very inviting. There is one nice cottage available. We rented it one week for quests. Worked out nicely. Take advantage of the weekly free breakfast and the monthly pot luck dinners. Good way to meet people. We camped at Sunset Point on Lake LBJ in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Places to visit; Frederickburg and the wineries, Enchanted Rock State Park, Vanishing Texas boat tour of Canyon of the Eagles (we didn't get lucky and saw no eagles) and The Blue Bell Cafe. Lots of reasonably priced restaurants in area and plenty in close by Austin.

Guadalupe River State Park (GRSP), Spring Branch, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2015 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice state park. The bathrooms were the cleanest we have seen anywhere. The sites are large and wooded in the Turkey Sink area. Some of the sites, while large are a little tight to back a big Motorhome into. Watch the overhead trees. Water and good 50 AMP service at sites. Great hiking, the river is breath taking, we and our dogs had a wonderful time playing in it. The Discovery Center is excellent and well staffed. Park hosts were as good as they get, very helpful. Wifi isn't available at the sites but you get a good signal at the bathrooms. Cell service isn't good, and we could only get 4 antenna TV stations. Wish we had known sooner, Tweedy's an excellent RV supply center, is only 7 miles down the road. Good if you need supplies or parts. We camped at Guadalupe River State Park (GRSP) in a Motorhome.

McKinney Falls State Park, Austin, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2015 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

A nice state park within minutes of Austin. Nice small park store, helpful staff. Roads are not in the best shape but they have had a lot of rain and flooding in the area. Not all the sites are level. There are some good pull through sites with 50 amps, #9, 10, 14 are good ones. Large area around each site. Plenty of trees for shade. No Wifi, but plenty of TV available with our antenna. Cell service was only OK. Bathrooms were large and clean. We camped at McKinney Falls State Park in a Motorhome.

Sunset Point on Lake LBJ, Marble Falls, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2015 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This a great small RV park in a beautiful location. We were there in November so it was quiet and a wonderful place to be. The owner/manager was friendly and available. Office staff was great. They were planning a Thanksgiving party. We are sorry we couldn't stay. Bathrooms are very well kept, best set up we have seen. Laundry room was spotless. The whole place was in excellent shape. Wifi was ok but slow, cell service better in some parts of the park and cable was good. Good places to walk your dogs. If you are there in the summer the swimming looks great. There is a community fire pit that looks like a good place to meet other RVers. We will stay there again!! We camped at Sunset Point on Lake LBJ in a Motorhome.

Stephen F. Austin State Park, San Felipe, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2015 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

We loved this state park. The sites are very big, easy to get into, with full hook ups. The best part of the park were the camp hosts. They stopped by our site several times to see how we were doing, gave us recommendations for meals out, trails to hike and other spots to stop in Texas. We had a problem with a water connection and once reported it was fixed with in an hour. We definitely would stop here again. We camped at Stephen F. Austin State Park in a Motorhome.

Sam Houston Jones State Park, Lake Charles, Louisiana

Date of Stay: November, 2015 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Good park to stop when traveling along I10 through Louisiana. The road going into the park is narrow with no shoulder. We wouldn't have wanted to have to pass another RV. The sites were good, tree covered, plenty big enough for our 37' motor home. Not sure how they would work for bigger rigs. Bathrooms were large, clean and in good shape. Lovely hiking trails around the campsite, good places to walk our dogs. We camped at Sam Houston Jones State Park in a Motorhome.

Sun Roamers RV Resort, Picayune, Mississippi

Date of Stay: November, 2015 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Nice RV park, we were given a nice pull thru. A mix of full timers, seasonal and day use RVs. Most all looked in good condition and park was in good shape. Good full hook ups. Plenty of place to walk, good place to walk our dogs. While we didn't use this park as a home base to visit New Orleans we saw several people around us driving into New Orleans for the day. About 45 minutes to an hour to get to New Orleans. We camped at Sun Roamers RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Flatwoods KOA, Sutton, West Virginia

Date of Stay: November, 2015 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here for an overnight. Liked it enough and stayed for two. It is a little difficult to find so be sure to watch for the KOA signs on the street. Our GPS sent us on a crazy round about route. The road down into the site is a little steep, but not a problem. Be sure to check in at the Days Inn desk before heading down. We took advantage of the exercise facility, pool and hot tub in the hotel. The hotel's restaurant was good too. It was nice to be able to walk to dinner.
The Wifi worked well, bathrooms, shower and laundry were clean and fairly new. Plenty of places to walk our dogs. We camped at Flatwoods KOA in a Motorhome.

Bayou Segnette State Park, Westwego, Louisiana

Date of Stay: November, 2015 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Great place to stay while visiting New Orleans. The park has good information about getting around in NO. The sites are well designed, most are concrete pads, and have concrete picnic area with table and grill. Many of the sites have wooden decks as well. The WIFI was decent, electric and water were good too. No problem with the bathrooms. Only two advisories are the fire ants and the unfriendly office staff. The fire ants are manageable but it would have been good to know about them going in. The office staff are not rude but they could be more pleasant and friendly. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Take the ferry across to New Orleans, it will save you time and $$. Cost for parking was $5 some days, ferry cost $1 for seniors, $2 for adults. Be sure to have correct change for the ferry.
