Austin Lone Star RV Resort, Austin, Texas

Date of Stay: December, 2017 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

We spent three nights at Austin Lone Star RV Resort in our 40' fifth wheel. We had a pull-through site that was plenty long and wide enough to enable us to park our rig, our tow vehicle and a car. The hookups worked well and were located conveniently. The roads within the park are somewhat narrow but we had no trouble getting around in our big rig. They no longer provide cable TV but there were plenty of stations available over the air. The wifi worked well. The laundry room was larger than usual and the machines were quite modern. We didn't use any other amenities. There is an entry gate that is closed at all times for security. We were given an access badge upon arrival that activated the gate. With Passport America available for two of the nights, the rate was very attractive. The only issue we had was with the Austin traffic (congested everywhere). Access to the campground is via the northbound I-35 frontage road so, if you're coming from the north, you'll need to exit I-35 south of the campground and then head back north. There's an exit ramp off of northbound I-35 just before reaching the campground. We wouldn't hesitate to stay at Austin Lone Star when we return to Austin. We camped at Austin Lone Star RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Tyler Oaks RV Resort, Tyler, Texas

Date of Stay: December, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We spent three nights at Taylor Oaks RV Resort in our 40' fifth wheel. The campground appeared to be pretty new and is quite nicely designed and maintained. There are 154 sites, with more than half of them being pull-throughs. The roads were adequately large and made it easy to get around with a big rig. The sites all have large concrete pads with gravel drives connecting the pads to the paved roads. The site was plenty long and wide enough to enable us to park our rig, our tow vehicle and a car. The hookups are conveniently located and worked well. Our only complaint was that the sewer connection was several inches off the ground and, that combined with the slope of the site, required our waste to flow uphill. Wifi worked very well. We didn't use the other amenities but, from the outside, they looked good. The campground is about 6 miles from downtown Tyler. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again when visiting Tyler. We camped at Tyler Oaks RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Bayou Boeuf RV Park, Sterlington, Louisiana

Date of Stay: December, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

We spent two nights at Bayou Boeuf RV Park in our 40' fifth wheel. The campground has about 50 spaces but, being mid-week in December, it was only about 25% full. The owners were very friendly and gave us our choice of sites. The site was gravel and plenty long and wide enough to enable us to park our rig, our tow vehicle and a car. The hookups were good and conveniently located. The campground is next to a fairly busy highway so there was some highway noise. We didn't use any of the amenities so can't comment on them. The city of Monroe is about 6 miles away but there are groceries and fuel within 3 miles. This is clearly not a fancy campground but it worked great for a short stay and the price was right. We would return if in the area. We camped at Bayou Boeuf RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Gulf State Park Campground, Gulf Shores, Alabama

Date of Stay: December, 2017 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

We spent ten nights at Gulf State Park in our 40' fifth wheel. The campground is very large but is just a small portion of this huge state park. We stayed in one of the pull-through sites along Raccoon Rd. The site was a very long and level asphalt curve with a large patio in the middle. There was more than enough room for our rig, our tow vehicle and our car. Although our site was centrally located, we would probably not stay on Raccoon Rd. in the future due to noise from the road traffic. The hookups at the site were very good and located conveniently. There are numerous amenities in the park, too many to mention. The laundry room is the size of a commercial laundromat. The beach pavilion and fishing pier are across the road from the campground and are available to campers for no additional cost. There are an almost unlimited number of trails for hiking and bicycling. The only negative was the cost which was higher than most state parks. In addition to the quoted rate for a site, there is an 11% sales tax, a 15% resort tax and a $4 registration fee. Our cost for 10 nights exceeded $42 per night. Given the amenities offered by the park, this isn't unreasonable but it was considerably more than we had expected to pay for a state park. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Fontainebleau State Park, Mandeville, Louisiana

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

We spent six nights at Fontainebleau State Park in our 40' fifth wheel. We had site #74, the only pull-through with sewer hookup in the park. The pull-through was asphalt and curved. The asphalt was broken up in places and this made it somewhat difficult to get level. One peculiar aspect of our site was that the electric and water hookups were on the door side so we had to run our lines under our rig. The entry roads are mostly one-way and are somewhat tight in the turns for a big rig but we managed. There are much more spacious pull-throughs in the South Campground but these lack sewer hook-ups. The campground was very nice and provided nice amenities such as a beach, fishing pier and nature trails. We spotted an armadillo, several deer and a couple of wild boars in the park. The laundry room was quite small but the restrooms were nice. We would recommend this park. We camped at Fontainebleau State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Sandy Creek COE, Jasper, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $9.00
Overall Rating:

We spent three nights at Sandy Creek COE Park in our 40' fifth wheel. We had a very long concrete pull-through site with plenty of room for our rig, our tow vehicle and our car. Our site had a lovely view of B. A. Steinhagen Lake. Although the site lacked a sewer hookup, the 2-rig dump station was nearby and not too difficult to access with our big rig. The campground is about 12 miles from Jasper, TX so you'll want to do your grocery shopping before arriving. We are big fans of COE parks and we would rate this as the best we've visited. We would definitely return again. We camped at Sandy Creek COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Country Place RV Park, Conroe, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

We spent a week at Country Place RV Park in our 40' fifth wheel. We had a very long pull-through site with plenty of room for our rig, our tow vehicle and our car. The site had concrete pads for our rig and a concrete patio with a picnic table. The campground appears to mostly cater to long-term campers but we found it to be very well maintained and clean. The owners were very friendly and made us feel welcome. The campground is very attractive, with three large ponds and a fishing pier. There are plenty of mature trees, especially in the long-term camping area. There is a game room and small fitness center. The laundry room was clean. The wifi is Tengo Internet for short-term campers but worked well. Cut and Shoot, TX is a small town (pop. 1,150) and most shopping will require driving several miles into Conroe. We would definitely return if in the area. We camped at Country Place RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Bar S RV Park, Milan, New Mexico

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed overnight at the Bar S RV Park in our 40' fifth wheel. We had a very long pull-through site with plenty of room between us and our neighbors. Although we did not use the facilities, we were impressed with how neatly the campground was maintained. The campground is very close to I-40 but we could not hear any highway noise. The only real negative is that there are railroad tracks within a few hundred feet of the campground. There are trains running all night, with some of them literally shaking the ground under our rig. Despite that, the price is great so we would probably stay there again. We camped at Bar S RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

OK RV Park, Holbrook, Arizona

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed for two nights at OK RV Park in our 40' fifth wheel. We had made reservations for a pull-through site several days in advance and were assigned to site Red-0. When I checked in, I was told that they rarely use that site and we soon discovered why. Although the gravel site was quite long, the electric hookup was near the front so we needed to pull all the way up. This put us right next door to our neighbor who was facing the other direction. That meant that our doors were only a few feet apart and we shared a common concrete pad and picnic table. I was told that, when we left, we should move the rope that served as the fence for the property and drive down a dirt road. I discovered that the dirt road had major ruts in it so we opted to back out of our site, rather than pull through. The campground had cable TV with 50 channels. However, we were expected to use the coax cable provided by the campground. I tried repeatedly to adhere to the rules which said "Please do not detach our cable" and "Do not remove or replace cables" but the cable didn't work despite numerous attempts to AutoProgram. The cable ran under the ground to a splitter bar at the neighbor's site. I went to the office to report the problem and the girl said she would be down to help me as soon as she'd checked in an RV that had just arrived. Two hours later, when she had not arrived and the office was closed, I took matters into my own hands and hooked up my own coax cable to the splitter bar and the cable TV worked great. The campground brochure actually says "If you need help, ask within 2 hours of arrival" so maybe the lack of support was the result of my untimely complaint but I've never seen such a strange policy. As noted in other reviews, the trains run constantly throughout the night with horns blowing so sleeping with the windows open was impossible. I suspect that other sites at this campground might not have all these problems but we will not return. We camped at OK RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Santa Cruz Redwoods RV Resort , Felton, California

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $65.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed for ten nights at Santa Cruz Redwoods RV Resort in our 40' fifth wheel. This is our second stay at this campground and we will continue to make it our base for visits to family in Santa Cruz. We had site 62, a large pull-through site that was easy to access. The campground is very well maintained and clean. It was fairly crowded on the weekends, with lots of children, but there were many empty sites during the week. The laundry room was clean ($1.25 each to wash and dry). Since the sites are surrounded by very tall redwood trees, we couldn't use our satellite but the campground cable was decent and provided 20 channels. There are eight wifi signals and the wifi worked OK, but not great, most of the time. Make sure to follow directions from website; you don't want to drive up highway 9 from Santa Cruz. Our only real complaint is the $20 per night charge for an extra vehicle, which we think is exorbitant. We could easily have fit our second vehicle on our site but, instead of paying an extra $200 for 10 nights, we parked our tow vehicle with family in Santa Cruz which was an inconvenience. We camped at Santa Cruz Redwoods RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Bodega Bay RV Park, Bodega Bay, California

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $58.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed for five nights at Bodega Bay RV Park in our 40' fifth wheel and were satisfied with our stay. We were fortunate to be able to upgrade to site 25, a FHU site that sits next to the bathhouse. Our pull-through was gravel and was plenty long enough to hold our rig, tow vehicle and extra vehicle (extra $5 per night). The site was an adequate width and had a fence between us and our neighbor. The roads were wide enough that there was no trouble maneuvering a big rig through the campground. The campground was tidy and well maintained. The office staff was friendly and helpful. The bathrooms and laundry room were well maintained. The laundry room has 3 washers and 3 driers ($2 each per load). It didn't have many other amenities but we were there to visit the area, rather than hang out in the campground. The wifi worked pretty well most of the time. The campground is about a mile north on Hwy 1 from the center of Bodega Bay. The drive along Hwy 1 can be a challenge in a big rig but it's certainly doable is you go slowly around the curves. Although the rates were higher than we were used to paying, there weren't many other options close to the town and it is California. We camped at Bodega Bay RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Mad River Rapids RV Park, Arcata, California

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed for five nights at Mad River Rapids RV Park in our 40' fifth wheel and were very satisfied with our stay. We were in site 14, a pull-through FHU site with 30 amp. Fortunately the weather was cool enough that 30 amp was sufficient for our needs. Our pull-through was gravel and was just long enough to hold our rig and tow vehicle. We had an additional car that we needed to park in the overflow area by the office. Our site was close to the office and only about six sites away from the laundry room and restrooms. The campground was tidy and well maintained. It is a short distance from the on-off ramps for Hwy 101. We felt very safe. Our wifi worked well, possibly due to being so close to the office. Short-term RVers get the sites in the middle of the campground, closest to the office. The longer-term RV area appeared tidy and we did not see any run-down units. We would return if in the area. We camped at Mad River Rapids RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Honey Bear By the Sea RV Resort and Campground, Gold Beach, Oregon

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed for four nights at Honey Bear By The Sea park in a 40' fifth wheel. We stayed in site 36, a pull-through site with 50 amp. Since we were at the end of the row, we had slightly more space on our door side than our neighbors but it was a little shorter (as noted on their website). The tent sites appear to be extremely large. The campground was quite tidy. The office staff was quite friendly. We got take-out from the restaurant and it was very good and reasonably priced. The laundry room and bathrooms were clean. Washers were $1.75 and dryers were $1.25. There were short nature walks around the campground and the beach was a short trail and across Hwy 101. The playground area looked nice and there was a game room above the restaurant. There was a huge forest fire raging near Brookings so the air was quite smoky most of our stay (not the campground's fault). Otherwise, we would have spent more time exploring the campground. Although the campground has a Gold Beach address, it is actually nine miles north of the city of Gold Beach. We would return if in the area and there were no forest fires nearby. We camped at Honey Bear By the Sea RV Resort and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Seal Rocks RV Cove, Seal Rock, Oregon

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed at Seal Rocks RV Cove for a week in a 40' fifth wheel. We were in site #43, an ocean view site with 50 amp. It was a back-in but there was plenty of room so backing in was not difficult. We loved the view of the Pacific Ocean from our living room windows. The beach is a short walk down a path and across Hwy 101. The campground is a short drive from a lot of popular locations. Newport is only 10 miles to the north; Yachats is about 17 miles south; and Florence is only about 38 miles south. The campground lacks some of the amenities often found at RV parks, such as a laundry room or pool, but the proximity to the ocean made up for that. The wifi is better than average for a campground. It often worked well but at times it would drop frequently. The only real negative is the constant highway noise from US 101 but the view more than compensated for that. We would definitely return to this campground if we were back in the area. We camped at Seal Rocks RV Cove in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

We stayed at Meadowlark RV Park for two nights in a 40' fifth wheel. We were satisfied with our stay at the campground, although it is by no means a destination park. The hookups worked well but the wifi rarely worked. Our pull-through site was on gravel but was long enough to accommodate us comfortably. However, since the hookups were so far to the front of the site, we needed to disconnect our tow vehicle and park it behind the 5er. We did not have a picnic table on our site, although we noticed that most sites did have a picnic table. The campground was extremely convenient to I-5 but our site was far enough away from the highway that we couldn't hear any highway noise. We camped at Meadowlark RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.
