Red River Valley Fair, West Fargo, North Dakota

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

I spent one night at Red River Valley Fair Campground in June 2018 in a 39' fifth wheel. Had I not needed to meet my wife's flight into Fargo, I would have kept on driving. The website said it is first come, first serve. When I arrived at 1:30 pm, I drove through both sections before finding two open back-in sites, both with only 30 amp service and no water or sewer connections. The site has a concrete pad and a gravel drive. There is a picnic table. Most of the other RV's appear to have been here for a long time and most of them are quite old. Unless you really need to be in Fargo, I would recommend looking elsewhere. We camped at Red River Valley Fair in a Fifth Wheel.

Lazy Days Campground, Miltona, Minnesota

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

I spent three nights at Lazy Days Campground. The owners were very friendly and helpful. Since I was there on weekdays, I had the pull-through section to myself. The seasonal campers were in back-ins in separate rows. The pull-through sites are mostly on grass but are quite spacious and level. The hookups worked very well and were well located. The campground is extremely well maintained. It is clearly going to get even better over time. There are many trees that are currently only 10-20' tall. There is a very attractive pool area, as well as lots of things for children to do. The campground is not near any major highway so it was very quiet at night. I would recommend this campground, especially if you have kids. We camped at Lazy Days Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Pine Harbor Campground, Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

We spent one night at Pine Harbor Campground in our 39' fifth wheel. We stayed in a quite spacious pull-through site with 50 amp + water among the trees. FHU's are not available due to the many mature trees but there is a dump station on site. The owner was extremely friendly. Since we were just passing through the area, we did not get to enjoy any of the facilities. We would return if in the area. We camped at Pine Harbor Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Blackhawk Valley Campground, Rockford, Illinois

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We spent six nights at Blackhawk Valley Campground in our 39' fifth wheel. We had a long pull-through site on grass that was more than adequate for our needs. The pull-through site are set up with alternating directions so our neighbor's door faced our door. Thus was not a problem since the sites were spacious. The campground is in a valley that is several miles from the highways, thus it was very quiet. The only negative was that our AT&T service was quite weak due to being in the valley. We didn't use any of the facilities so can't comment on them. We would definitely return to this campground if in the area. We camped at Blackhawk Valley Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Howell Station COE, Pella, Iowa

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $11.00
Overall Rating:

We spent two nights at the Howell Station Recreation Area in May 2018 in our 39' fifth wheel. We really enjoy COE campgrounds and this was the best we've stayed at. The campground is absolutely gorgeous with many mature trees and lush grass. There is a large amount of space between sites. The Des Moines River runs along the campground and there are well-maintained walking trails beside it. The campground is quite big rig friendly. All the sites are back-ins but the road is fairly wide so backing in wasn't too difficult. Although all the sites have 50 amp electric, there is no water nor sewer connections at the sites due to the many trees. There are large dump stations by the entrance and drinking water is available there. We would definitely return to this campground if in the area. We camped at Howell Station COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Geneseo Campground, Geneseo, Illinois

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

We overnighted at Geneseo Campground in May 2018 in our 39' fifth wheel. It was a nice site to spend a short stay. The pull-through site was somewhat short so we had to disconnect our tow vehicle and park it sideways behind our rig. The only real challenge was due to the electrical connection being in the very front of the site, which caused us to have to use every bit of our power cord to reach it. The Hennepin Canal runs along the campground and there is a nice walking trail along the canal. We saw many people fishing from the banks of the canal. Be sure to call to get directions to the campground. There is a bridge with only a 10' clearance coming through town but the office staff can direct you around this. We would not hesitate to return to this campground if passing through the area. We camped at Geneseo Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Spaulding Lake Campground, Niles, Michigan

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We spent five nights in May 2018 at Spaulding Lake Campground in our 39' fifth wheel. This was our second stay at this campground and we enjoyed it again. The campground is well maintained and the staff is very friendly. Our site was a gravel pull-through and was adequately long to accommodate us. There was a decent amount of room between us and our neighbors. There were mature trees all around us and the three ponds were a short distance from our site. The campground is far enough from the highway that it is very quiet but close enough to retail businesses such as Walmart. The only discount given is for seniors. We will stay there again when in the area. We camped at Spaulding Lake Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Grand Ole RV Resort, Goodlettsville, Tennessee

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We spent a total of 14 nights over two stays in April 2018 at Grand Ole RV Resort in our 39' fifth wheel. We really like the campground and will likely make this our "go to" site for future visits to the Nashville area. We have stayed at the campgrounds on Music Valley Drive in Nashville and prefer Grand Ole RV Resort due to cost and customer service. The campground is very close to I-65 and a relatively short drive into downtown Nashville. This campground is a great example of the way a family-run business should operate. We were in a bit of bind because our tow vehicle needed to be in the body shop and we weren't sure when we would be able to move. The staff was extremely helpful and found a way to meet our needs. This campground is clearly very popular and appeared full almost every night we were there. The sites are somewhat close together but not uncomfortably so. We had no problem extending our slides and awnings. We enjoyed the professional musicians that perform every evening. The only real negative is the railroad tracks that pass along the perimeter of the property. The trains run frequently and are quite loud. We camped at Grand Ole RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Austin Lone Star RV Resort, Austin, Texas

Date of Stay: December, 2017 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

We spent three nights at Austin Lone Star RV Resort in our 40' fifth wheel. We had a pull-through site that was plenty long and wide enough to enable us to park our rig, our tow vehicle and a car. The hookups worked well and were located conveniently. The roads within the park are somewhat narrow but we had no trouble getting around in our big rig. They no longer provide cable TV but there were plenty of stations available over the air. The wifi worked well. The laundry room was larger than usual and the machines were quite modern. We didn't use any other amenities. There is an entry gate that is closed at all times for security. We were given an access badge upon arrival that activated the gate. With Passport America available for two of the nights, the rate was very attractive. The only issue we had was with the Austin traffic (congested everywhere). Access to the campground is via the northbound I-35 frontage road so, if you're coming from the north, you'll need to exit I-35 south of the campground and then head back north. There's an exit ramp off of northbound I-35 just before reaching the campground. We wouldn't hesitate to stay at Austin Lone Star when we return to Austin. We camped at Austin Lone Star RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Tyler Oaks RV Resort, Tyler, Texas

Date of Stay: December, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We spent three nights at Taylor Oaks RV Resort in our 40' fifth wheel. The campground appeared to be pretty new and is quite nicely designed and maintained. There are 154 sites, with more than half of them being pull-throughs. The roads were adequately large and made it easy to get around with a big rig. The sites all have large concrete pads with gravel drives connecting the pads to the paved roads. The site was plenty long and wide enough to enable us to park our rig, our tow vehicle and a car. The hookups are conveniently located and worked well. Our only complaint was that the sewer connection was several inches off the ground and, that combined with the slope of the site, required our waste to flow uphill. Wifi worked very well. We didn't use the other amenities but, from the outside, they looked good. The campground is about 6 miles from downtown Tyler. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again when visiting Tyler. We camped at Tyler Oaks RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Bayou Boeuf RV Park, Sterlington, Louisiana

Date of Stay: December, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

We spent two nights at Bayou Boeuf RV Park in our 40' fifth wheel. The campground has about 50 spaces but, being mid-week in December, it was only about 25% full. The owners were very friendly and gave us our choice of sites. The site was gravel and plenty long and wide enough to enable us to park our rig, our tow vehicle and a car. The hookups were good and conveniently located. The campground is next to a fairly busy highway so there was some highway noise. We didn't use any of the amenities so can't comment on them. The city of Monroe is about 6 miles away but there are groceries and fuel within 3 miles. This is clearly not a fancy campground but it worked great for a short stay and the price was right. We would return if in the area. We camped at Bayou Boeuf RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Gulf State Park Campground, Gulf Shores, Alabama

Date of Stay: December, 2017 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

We spent ten nights at Gulf State Park in our 40' fifth wheel. The campground is very large but is just a small portion of this huge state park. We stayed in one of the pull-through sites along Raccoon Rd. The site was a very long and level asphalt curve with a large patio in the middle. There was more than enough room for our rig, our tow vehicle and our car. Although our site was centrally located, we would probably not stay on Raccoon Rd. in the future due to noise from the road traffic. The hookups at the site were very good and located conveniently. There are numerous amenities in the park, too many to mention. The laundry room is the size of a commercial laundromat. The beach pavilion and fishing pier are across the road from the campground and are available to campers for no additional cost. There are an almost unlimited number of trails for hiking and bicycling. The only negative was the cost which was higher than most state parks. In addition to the quoted rate for a site, there is an 11% sales tax, a 15% resort tax and a $4 registration fee. Our cost for 10 nights exceeded $42 per night. Given the amenities offered by the park, this isn't unreasonable but it was considerably more than we had expected to pay for a state park. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Fontainebleau State Park, Mandeville, Louisiana

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

We spent six nights at Fontainebleau State Park in our 40' fifth wheel. We had site #74, the only pull-through with sewer hookup in the park. The pull-through was asphalt and curved. The asphalt was broken up in places and this made it somewhat difficult to get level. One peculiar aspect of our site was that the electric and water hookups were on the door side so we had to run our lines under our rig. The entry roads are mostly one-way and are somewhat tight in the turns for a big rig but we managed. There are much more spacious pull-throughs in the South Campground but these lack sewer hook-ups. The campground was very nice and provided nice amenities such as a beach, fishing pier and nature trails. We spotted an armadillo, several deer and a couple of wild boars in the park. The laundry room was quite small but the restrooms were nice. We would recommend this park. We camped at Fontainebleau State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Sandy Creek COE, Jasper, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $9.00
Overall Rating:

We spent three nights at Sandy Creek COE Park in our 40' fifth wheel. We had a very long concrete pull-through site with plenty of room for our rig, our tow vehicle and our car. Our site had a lovely view of B. A. Steinhagen Lake. Although the site lacked a sewer hookup, the 2-rig dump station was nearby and not too difficult to access with our big rig. The campground is about 12 miles from Jasper, TX so you'll want to do your grocery shopping before arriving. We are big fans of COE parks and we would rate this as the best we've visited. We would definitely return again. We camped at Sandy Creek COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Country Place RV Park, Conroe, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

We spent a week at Country Place RV Park in our 40' fifth wheel. We had a very long pull-through site with plenty of room for our rig, our tow vehicle and our car. The site had concrete pads for our rig and a concrete patio with a picnic table. The campground appears to mostly cater to long-term campers but we found it to be very well maintained and clean. The owners were very friendly and made us feel welcome. The campground is very attractive, with three large ponds and a fishing pier. There are plenty of mature trees, especially in the long-term camping area. There is a game room and small fitness center. The laundry room was clean. The wifi is Tengo Internet for short-term campers but worked well. Cut and Shoot, TX is a small town (pop. 1,150) and most shopping will require driving several miles into Conroe. We would definitely return if in the area. We camped at Country Place RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.
