Next door to 2 RV dealers so we took advantage of their checking out their stock since we are thinking about downsizing from our 37' 5W.

Stella Mare RV Resort, Galveston, Texas

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Love this park. We stayed 3 months this year. Close to shopping and restaurants. Located across San Luis Pass from the Gulf so Gulf access is close. Great park for walking. Friendly staff. They have added weekend activities since last year's stay. Sorry, No Cable TV and the WiFi is not reliable. We requested a picnic table but were told we were on a long waiting list. They are trying to get them put together but that all takes time and manpower. We will return if coming to Galveston next year. We camped at Stella Mare RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Request a back in on the east side if you are a bird watcher. Cranes, pelicans, and a variety of ducks. Our dogs lay in on the back of our sofa so they could look out the window and "bird" watch. Bring your own satellite and hot spot as it will be more reliable. They are aware of the problems but nothing seems to change. Enjoy your stay as the staff will go out of their way to help with any problems they can solve.

Durant / Choctaw Casino KOA, Durant, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: December, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This is the best park as all sites are pull thru. Cable is excellent. WiFi is good though we did not use it this trip, but did on our return trip. Park is maintained well, has a great dog park (which our dogs love), a pond at the back has a variety of ducks and a few geese roam the grounds once in a while. Restrooms and laundry are clean. The only negative is that the seating in the shower area is IN the shower portion so is always wet when you need to sit down to put your shoes on. Park is a short distance by shuttle (or even walking) to the casino for a variety of restaurant choices and of course, gambling. We camped at Durant / Choctaw Casino KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

A must stop for us on our way south each winter and return trip each spring. Meals at the Butterfield Buffet in the casino are usually good.. not fancy, but good. Shuttle is available most hours and will pick you up and drop you off at your site. Great park for walking your dog and doggie pick up bags are available at the dog park. Garbage cans are located at each site which is a plus as they pick up daily.

Stella Mare RV Resort, Galveston, Texas

Date of Stay: January, 2017 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

We spent approximately 7 weeks in Stella Mare in a back in site. This is a new park with great potential. We will return. PROS: 1. Great location - easy access to Galveston activities 2. Park is well built with adequate electric. 3. Nice long sites. Great space between sites. Lots of pull thru sites. Space for 2 vehicles to park. 4. Friendly staff - very nice people willing to help. 5. Park kept neat & clean (aside from the occasional customer who neglects to pick up) 6. Many pet pickup stations which are maintained. (No excuse for those not picking up.) As well as a dog walk areas. 7. Trash pick-up at the site all day long. 8. Great park for walking. Walk to the beach which is just across the highway. 9. Wifi reception good thru TENGO with customers paying TENGO for the service over the free limit which is only for web browsing and Email. If you want to stream movies, and games, you will pay for it. 10. Since it is a new park, there are no trees, only new palm trees so Satellite reception is good. CONS: 1. No cable connection (yet?) so satellite is a must. You can receive a few stations from Houston using the RV antenna. 2. No picnic tables at each site. Only their Premier Sites have picnic tables. 3. Since this park is on an island which is subject to a possible hurricane or high water after big storms, the bathhouse and office are on stilts. They have a temporary office in one of the homes on the premises that can only be accessed by climbing the stairs. 4. Laundry facility is located IN the restrooms (2 washers & 2 dryers in each). Since building was on stilts, the elevator was not accessible during our stay and we had to use the stairs. 5. Sites are just off 90 degree angles - not slanted enough for large rigs to enter and leave without a bit of pre-planning. But once in, it is a great space. We camped at Stella Mare RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

We stayed 6 weeks and paid $565 (included electric) per month. If you have a big rig and want a back in, make sure the palm tree that is close to the road is on the blind side. That way you can back in across the grassy area at the front if necessary. There are no fire rings so ask before making a reservation if you can use your own free standing one. We really enjoyed our stay.

Woodland Lakes RV Park, The Woodlands, Texas

Date of Stay: January, 2017 - $54.00
Overall Rating:

Park was not easily marked. We missed the faded sign and had to turn around - not easy for a 38'5W. Road was a dead end and narrow with construction on one side. Park appeared to have lots of permanent guests. Located off Hwy 242. That road is divided and you could not make a left turn off Firehouse (where the park is located) so we had to find a place to do a u -turn so we could get back to I-45.

We were here for 1 night on our way to Galveston. Cable was not available unless you rented a box from the office for a deposit. WE did not find out about this until we asked another customer. We were not offered a box at registration, but were told we had cable. We actually had a pretty good site - it was on the end and we have view of one of their lakes. The site was not easy to get into and the roads were narrow and gravel. Site was gravel with a brick patio (grass growing between the bricks and not level so not really usable). The park was full so I guess we were lucky to get a spot so close to Houston. We camped at Woodland Lakes RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Durant / Choctaw Casino KOA, Durant, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: January, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Great Park. A must stop on our way south each year. We clear the antifreeze from our lines and spend a few days eating at the casino. so no cooking for me! Pull thru Sites are long and lots of them. They have a great dog park which our pets love - 2 sections. Showers are great. Only thing missing is a stool to sit on in the dressing area. Laundry is clean as well. A recent change: they no longer have a combination to get into the restrooms after the office closes; building is Closed 11pm-7am. We camped at Durant / Choctaw Casino KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Take a shuttle to the casino - great restaurants even if you don't want to gamble. Or you can walk to it.. just across the road. The shuttle will pick you up and drop you off at your site or at the office and is available 7AM to 10pm. Limited shuttle after 10pm. This is the BEST KOA in the system according to us.

Coachlight RV Park, Carthage, Missouri

Date of Stay: January, 2017 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Our usual stop on the way south each winter and the way back each spring. The staff is always friendly. We did receive a welcome sheet with the rules, park layout and TV channels. Their pull thru sites are adequate for our 38' 5W. Only down side is that they do not have restrooms and we are winterized (i.e. no water due to anticipated cold weather). While the park does have several dog pickup stations, some of the customers do not use. But this is a problem in most park that allow pets. Also, we could not access their TV channels. We camped at Coachlight RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Southlake RV Resort, Houston, Texas

Date of Stay: December, 2015 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

Aside from the narrow one lane road to get to the park, the park staff and grounds are great. We have a shorter site than we like but then, it was the last monthly site for December. We had to leave another location and this was the closest to our family so we could spend Christmas with her.

Park is smaller than expected but great for walking. They have a dog walk for our critters but the code for the gate is a hassle but understandable since the park is in Houston (Pearland area). Dog pickup bags are located throughout the park in several areas. WiFi is free and through Tengo. It looks like there are a lot of people who full time in the park, but check with the office EARLY to get a prime spot. The staff is great to work with.

We will be back. We camped at Southlake RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Sandpiper RV Resort, Galveston, Texas

Date of Stay: December, 2015 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

We have been staying at SPRVP since it opened 4 years ago, and, until this year, have always been happy with our stay. They have restrooms & a small laundry, all located up a flight of stairs. While the park is nice and convenient, close to the beach and great for walking on the Seawall. This year we were not happy for many reasons: 1) Inconsiderate staff - don't care attitude and poor excuses for every problem (see what follows). 2) We made our reservations for December in September and requested a site on the northeast side of the park. When we arrived we were placed in a site with a view of the building, a concrete wall & the highway. We requested a change but were told "We can't. You're here for a month. We never guarantee sites." We never requested a specific site, just a specific area and several of those sites were empty for the short time we were there. 3) The first night our CO2 detector went off. After checking to be sure it was not our problem, we complained to the office and requested a site change. We were told to "deal with it or leave." We opted to leave and requested our money back. We had only been there 3 days! Why did the staff not call the gas company? They did not want to! Why did they not move us - same reason. We will not be back! We camped at Sandpiper RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

The Palms RV Park, Aransas Pass, Texas

Date of Stay: January, 2013 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

Brand new park. We stayed a week. We lucked out getting in as the park was almost full. Sites are mostly back-ins but spacious. Plenty of room for our big truck and 36' 5W. Great dog walk area as well as a great park to walk. Really enjoyed our stay and we will return if in the area again. We camped at The Palms RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Admiralty RV Resort, San Antonio, Texas

Date of Stay: January, 2013 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Rate is approx as we stayed for 1 month. We have stayed at this park for many years. It is a convenient park to getting downtown and there is lots of shopping close. Pull thru sites have an additional parking spot next to the rig (which is a Standard Plus type site) making it easier for the bigger rigs to park their tow or towing vehicle. On the down side: if you have a pet, there are several cats loose and it made it difficult for us to walk our dog. If dogs / pets have to be on a leash, why do the cats get to roam? Otherwise an enjoyable stay. We camped at Admiralty RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

Rate indicates a special winter rate. Park is clean and neat and in our opinion the absolute best of the KOA campgrounds. We stay here on our way south each December and way north in March. Great for walking pets. Shuttle to site from casino. Best place in casino to eat is the Blue Moon Cafe. We camped at Durant / Choctaw Casino KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Date of Stay: February, 2012 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Park had special rate of $25 per night in February and that included cable, although cable is not at all sites. Park is one of the best KOA's we have every seen. Well managed and just beautiful. Shuttle will take you to casino and bring you back. Office staff friendly and accommodating. Choctaw Indians own and operate and they have very high standards of excellence in all the amenities. We will return on our next trip through Oklahoma. We camped at Durant / Choctaw Casino KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Sandpiper RV Resort, Galveston, Texas

Date of Stay: January, 2012 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed a month so we got a special rate because the park was still in the process of being built. It has excellent location and a short walk to the beach as it is located at the entrance to Stewart Beach on the north end of Galveston. Wi-Fi & Cable were good. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Can't wait to see the pool when it is finished as they were still working on it when we left. This is a small park but it is better quality that the other parks in the area. We will return next time in the area. We camped at Sandpiper RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Ransom Road RV Park, Aransas Pass, Texas

Date of Stay: January, 2012 - $12.00
Overall Rating:

While we did not actually stay in this park, we visited friends here and wished we had. Park was clean and sites were a little close but adequate. Because of the snowbirds, this park was full and did not have availability until too late for us to change our plans. My husband played pool with some of the residents and found them to be friendly. We would like to stay here next time in the area if they have space. We camped at Ransom Road RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.
