Fort Pickens Campground, Pensacola, Florida

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $13.00
Overall Rating:

As others have said the locale is unbeatable, especially in the Fall and early Spring, when the temps are nice. Primitive beaches on both the Gulf and Bay sides of the island. Ospreys in the tree tops. Great Blue Herons and Brown Pelicans fishing on the bay side. It's easy to be kicked off by weather is the one down side. We've been evacuated twice - once in Fall and once in Spring. Still one of my favorite places. We camped at Fort Pickens Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Pat Thomas Park, Quincy, Florida

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

This park was a real find for an overnight on a roadtrip. I'd happily spend weeks here. Spots right on the lake, fishing piers, and a boat dock. There's something very peaceful, calm and beautiful about this lake. Old man is on grounds most days, and takes the entry fees, but they don't accept cards. Grounds are maintained by inmates and are really quite attractive. Beautiful boardwalks and pier walkways on the shores of this campground. Will be back again. We camped at Pat Thomas Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Lake Letta RV Park, Avon Park, Florida

Date of Stay: December, 2015 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

I would have given this a higher overall rating, but only lowered that due to the fact that many might find this place just a little too quaint and old school for them. Jean and I Like places that are not rows of rectangles on straight streets, and this park was laid out nicely, is well maintained, and has a barrel load of activities going on every week. Friendly people - you extroverts will enjoy this park. We camped at Lake Letta RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Highlands Hammock state [park is 20 minutes south and has a tram trip through the back restricted area of the park. We rode in a large trailer with seats, about $5 or $7 a piece, hour and half trip and we saw otters, alligators, storks, cranes, blackheaded vultures - many bird species. What an absolute bargain - and walk the cypress train boardwalk - so impressive and beautiful

Big Lagoon State Park, Pensacola, Florida

Date of Stay: December, 2015 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very nice park for bird watching - in the campsites were mockingbirds, thrushes, cardinals, chickadees, and on the beaches were herons and shorebirds. Very natural area, with dense undergrowth between spaces for privacy. You can get some noisy local campers on the weekends. Florida residents half price on the nightly rate. We camped at Big Lagoon State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Avalon Landing RV Park, Milton, Florida

Date of Stay: November, 2015 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

The $50 rate was what we were charged for 2 nights after we came in 2 days early on a reservation. The campground was not full, and they could have just started our month early, but did not. I would say this is a great place to overnight, but I'm not a fan for long term stays. The park has no activities for residents - even Thanksgiving. They did not allow us to put up a non floored 10x10 screen room to enjoy the out doors bug free. Felt a bit "Stepfordian" to us. Summary - nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there. We camped at Avalon Landing RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Fort Pickens Campground, Pensacola, Florida

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $13.00
Overall Rating:

Others have talked about the facilities, which are fine. What I will always love about this campsite is access to pristine beaches on both the Gulf side and the Santa Rosa Sound side. 10 minute walk to gulf and 5 minute walk to sound from our site. Wonderful birds - more ospreys and great blue herons than anywhere else I've ever been. Lots of shore birds, brown pelicans, and others in heron family. You can stay 14 days and then must be out for 2, I think. We stayed here 3 2 week times in fall of 2o15, alternating with Big Lagoon State Park. Amazing deal for seniors with the pass. We camped at Fort Pickens Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Standley Lake Regional Park, Westminster, Colorado

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $13.00
Overall Rating:

We are full timers and spent late May through August in this park. This is the only park I know of in Denver area that is NO reservations - which is great. You can almost always get in during week days, and often on weekends, just by showing up around the noon check out time. First come, first serve. The 2 catches are that you must be out one day after 14 days, and you can't occupy the park on holiday weekends - 4th of July, Memorial Day, etc. They are reserved for boaters with passes. You can buy an annual $16 senior pass, which eliminates the $7 a day entrance fee. We paid $12 a day, plus the one time $16. Wonderful, spacious sites by the lake, and some not so spacious further back. We camped at Standley Lake Regional Park in a Fifth Wheel.
