West Branch State Park, Ravenna, Ohio

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Lovely park well kept with good space between sites. We don't use their showers/bathrooms normally but I did check them out & building was newer and cleanliness was average. We had a pull thru with full hookups and were very happy. Beautiful surroundings, wasy drive from interstate. Note: full hookups MUST be reserved in advance. Otherwise if you arrive after hours you can only get electric. Supposedly you can reserve same day for a site. We camped at West Branch State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Elkhorn Ridge RV Resort & Cabins, Spearfish, South Dakota

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

Expensive but well worth it! Well maintained lots to do in warmer weather & convenient for Mt Rushmore, Devils Tower, Deadwood and Crazy Horse monument. Huge pull thru's and a great fenced dog park (big area & split large and small). They are close to the highway but have a berm so you don't see or hear the traffic. A great place to base out of and a very beautiful park where you are not all jammed together. Shade trees are young though so expect full sun in summer. We stayed 6 nights for 290 ish. We camped at Elkhorn Ridge RV Resort & Cabins in a Fifth Wheel.

They do have fire rings throughout but not every site has their own.

Check out town of Deadwood for bars / reataurants and there is the start of a rail trail in town.

For groceries head to Lead they have a nice Lynn's Dakotamart.

Buck Creek State Park, Springfield, Ohio

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed one night & this was a welcome break from the places by the interstate where you hear cars all night. A beautiful state park well cared for & plenty of green & space betwen sites. Lots of hiking & nice quiet roads for biking. There is a lake and marina and a campers beach. Regular season starts May 1 & until then it is walk up only. You self register after you pick pit your site. They give a 50%pa discount Mon thru Thurs. Ohio veterens stay free. A really nice park where I would have gladly stayed longer but we are on our way home! I checked out laundry and bathroom and they were basic and not too bad, though it did not look like they were being cleaned daily. Potable water at the dump station on the way in...sites are electric only. We camped at Buck Creek State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Great stopover place if you have kids! Was too loud at night for us...even with earplugs next to highway. But the place was beautifully maintained. Only place we found to walk dogs was around the driveway. We camped at Worlds of Fun Village in a Fifth Wheel.

Beautiful sites near a lake with a 3.1 mi paved walking trail. Awesome big off leash fenced dog park where they can swim in the lake (opposite the walking trail.! TaHaZouka Park, Norfolk, Nebraska

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $12.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here overnight to hike part of the Cowboy trail which runs right beside this campground. The park was not fully open so it was self service and the water was still off. Plus the showers/bathrooms were not open yet (open 16 April). They gave a discount from the usual 18.00 because of that. We loved it as qas a fpod place for the dogs and we were 1 of 2 rigs there. Nice space between sites and lots of tall hardwoods foe shade. Trees are well trimmed and easy to maneuver our 32ft 5 er. We camped at TaHaZouka Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Cottonwoods RV Park, Columbia, Missouri

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Nice park adjacent to fairgrounds and easy on off from 63. Some very long pull thrus and then the rest of the sites are pull thru but shorter. Nice grass in between, but not as much space between sites as I like. We had an empty site in front of is so it was OK. No campfires allowed. Our price was for 50 amp which was extra $. Trees are nice for shade - but you need to be careful when turning in/out of site. We camped at Cottonwoods RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We hiked part of the nearby Katy trail and also appreciated a great foodie grocery store...Lucky's Market. If your hungry you can get a pizza slice & a pint for $5 and sit on their nice covered patio. They have a liquor store adjacent with a great beer / wine selection and we bought some awesome fresh trout for dinner.

Fishberry Campground, Valentine, Nebraska

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This was an overnight stop for us and we really like it. They have all pullthru's large enough for any configuration, no need to unhook towed's. They have full hu with 50 amp service. It is not paved, but the gravel roads were well maintained and the whole place was clean and tidy. We loved the wide open grassy space and that we were far enough from the road not to hear / see the traffic. We were there off season and could pick any site we wanted. It was self pay and the owners lived on the ranch nearby. Would be good for group site as they have a lot of open space & a covered pavilion/picnic area. They have showers/restroom...we just did not use them. We camped at Fishberry Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

The town of Valentine is less than 5 miles away & is the start of the 190 mile cowboy trail. Good for hiking & biking. We walked the 3 miles from downtown to the bridge over the river & it was well worth it! Good stop if you are traveling with dogs.

Valentine has all services you could need & we used Tony's tire to replace a stem & were very happy. Good small town America feel.

Santa Rosa RV Resort, Navarre, Florida

Date of Stay: January, 2016 - $70.00
Overall Rating:

We had a waterfront site right on Santa Rosa sound. This was the first RV resort feel type park we stayed at. Heated pool and a group campfire area. The seasonals here were the friendliest of any place we had been. Next time I would stay a month as the monthly rate is MUCH better and there is tons to do. We drove over & walked our dogs across the sound on Navarre beach...there is a path along the road. No dogs on beach though. You can fish right from you spot here & seemed to be good fishing. They also had a small fenced dog park which I really appreciated begin able to throw the ball & give our 2 girls some off leash time. The park is right off a very busy road, so we were very glad we had a waterfront site. We camped at Santa Rosa RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Bayou Segnette State Park, Westwego, Louisiana

Date of Stay: January, 2016 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

If you want to be close to New Orleans...this is it. Great fish market just outside and a short drive into downtown. This is a SP. Sites are nicely arranged in two loops with lots of green space in between. Very private feeling. It is swampy, so I imagine there are bugs in the summer...but that is the south. We loved it here...very quiet and private feeling. Also felt very safe, with park trucks patrolling regularly and limited access. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Hidden Lake RV Resort, Beaumont, Texas

Date of Stay: January, 2016 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

Very clean showers with a private room for each shower/toilet. Laundry facilities also very clean. Staff very friendly. We laid over just one night on our way west so wanted to be close to I10. Other than that not really much reason to stay here.

Site was really wet, but there had been a lot of rain...but still nowhere else we stayed had this much standing water. Looked to be a lot of permanent / seasonals staying. Park was well kept, clean & safe and staff very nice. Bathrooms were cleanest yet. We camped at Hidden Lake RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Pecan Grove RV Park, Austin, Texas

Date of Stay: January, 2016 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Within walking distance of downtown Austin....tons of music venues and parks with hiking trails all within walking distance. Plus fabulous restaurants....if you have a hankering for civilization...this park will put you close. The park feels very safe and has a few spaces kept for overnighters...the rest are permanent residences. Very quiet at night & very friendly. Verizon coverage excellent, but their wifi (we were told) is slow...we did not try just used our hotspot. Driving & parking here is not for the faint of heart...very tight make sure you plan your route ahead and come on Sat or Sun for less traffic. We had a pull thru close to the front & our rig is 32 ft . Great dog walks! We camped at Pecan Grove RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

LOVED it here...sites were big and you could walk to the beach. Bring your bike as they have a biking path along I 98. Seaside within walking / biking distance with restaurants & Public. Very nice place...would have loved to stay longer here, but they were booked up for the week between Christmas & New Years so we could only get 2nights. Very tranquil & great for dog walking.
