Kansas City West / Lawrence KOA , Lawrence, Kansas

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

How much you like this park depends on what you want from your camping experience. The facility is nice for families. Two playgrounds, one with a mini-zip line the kids seem to love. A small but sparkling pool, shuffleboard, rec room, peddle bikes, etc. Bath house is clean, but is very far from the tent areas. There is a large fenced dog area. Most sites are very flat and the electric and water are fine. Employees are very helpful and amenable. The environment leaves me cold. Most of the sites are just wide enough for a picnic table (the narrow way), and rigs are parked back to front so you share your site with your neighbor. It does keep you from sitting next to your neighbor's sewer drain. The interior roads are gravel and talc-like dust. Every time somebody drives by, you are swept with dust if the wind is in the wrong quarter. The tollway is less than a mile away and noisy, and there is a busy railroad somewhere through the shrubbery. There is also a mysterious large ditch of standing water along the west edge of the park. Again, if the wind is from the west, or you are over on that side of the park, you can smell the stank. There are a number of trees large enough to provide true shade. It is fine for an overnight or a day or two. I would never stay here for an extended time, again. We camped at Kansas City West / Lawrence KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Both the car GPS and the Garmin could not find the park effectively. Coming from the north, we had to drive about three quarters of a mile farther down 40 to find the park. The Merc Co+op has great organic foods, and the best bread I could find in town.

Arrowhead RV Resort, Ely, Minnesota

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

This was a surprise, and we were confused as to why it wasn't packed. It is situated at the edge of Ely, and there were walking paths into town. The park itself appears a bit desolate. It is flat, and needed mowing. However, there was green space around the park. The bathhouse and clubhouse were newly remodelled and beautiful. It had FULL hook up and was easily long enough for our 40' rig and tow vehicle. It was quiet and convenient to town. Perhaps they can spend a bit more time making the sites reflect the buildings in terms of quality. It is a four-season park. It is gated, and if the camp host had not happened to be there when we arrived at 5pm, we couldn't have gotten in. I called the first number on the door to get the code. No answer. There was no information packet waiting for us. Be sure you have the code before you arrive. We have already reserved to return for an extended stay next summer. We camped at Arrowhead RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Deerwood Park, Evansdale, Iowa

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

The park was quite nice and relaxed. The FHU sites were packed, and we saw almost no turnover in the 8 days we were there. The keep 1-2 FHU for overnighters. There was always sites with just electric and water. Most sites backed up into large grassy areas. Many were well shaded. Tent camping looked Spectacular. Noise from highway was bothersome in our area of the camp. The river was murky, but they had had 8" of rain upstream just prior to our arrival. Decent park for kids with lots of room, tons of playgrounds, easy access for launching kayaks and such. There is also a disc frisbee course we didn't see. We would stop here again. We camped at Deerwood Park in a Motorhome.

The local Best Buy had a great technician who installed new stereo and cameras in our rig. Authentic, inexpensive Mexican restaurant in town called La Michoacana. Order at counter, so don't dress up. I would have eaten there every day.

Canal COE, Grand Rivers, Kentucky

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

We stopped on a weekend layover traveling from Florida to Minnesota. Unfortunately, the temperature almost 100 with heat index of 107. It didn't get much below 80 at night. We didn't get around the park as much as we'd hoped. Bath houses were clean, except for a wash of dead bugs in the morning, of which the park was aware and trying to control. Electric and water were fine. The sites were all very different, some shaded, some smaller. There was not much choice for our 40' rig. We stayed on the edge of the boat ramp (84). Last site available. Interestingly, it was very private, flat and except for almost full sun, a fine place for us to stay. Sites 103-110 are basically parallel parking along the edge of a large paved oval by the swim dock. Most other sites are very charming and tucked into the landscape. Most are well shaded with mature trees. I was pleasantly surprised that the park had giant industrial fans on the shaded swim dock. I assume so that the little children didn't die of heat exposure. I would love to return in more clement weather. We camped at Canal COE in a Motorhome.

Bring what you need with you. There is quite a drive to a close grocery store. There is a small market a few miles away, but a little pricey. Patti's 1880's Settlement is a huge tourist spot. Bill's Restaurant received a B from us, and was more expensive then it was worth. Think Country Kitchen on steroids.

A-Okay RV Mobile Home and RV park, Dothan, Alabama

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

This is a park set up in the middle of a field. About a quarter of the sites appear to be long term. Electric and water were fine. Wi-fi was tolerable. I noticed no other amenities. It was quiet and peaceful. We would return for an overnight stay. We camped at A-Okay RV Mobile Home and RV park in a Motorhome.

Texas T Campground, Cornersville, Tennessee

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

Most sites were pull-through with little shade. What appeared to be long term guests had all the shade. Site was level, good electric and water. The wooded area for tent camping appeared flat (it was not) and well shaded (it was). It was quiet and tidy. This was a more than adequate place to stop for the night. We would return. We camped at Texas T Campground in a Motorhome.

Maxwell-Gunter AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp), Maxwell Gunter AFB, Alabama

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

This was our third stay in a military base. As is typical, it was tucked in the farthest possible corner of the base. However, if you trust the signs, you will find it. GPS is not helpful. Sites were level, power and water were satisfactory. The only negative aspect was the lack of mowing of the dog walking area. I was wet almost to my knees from morning dew and walking the dog. We stayed her due to mechanical difficulties, and would stay here again. We camped at Maxwell-Gunter AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Cozy C RV Campground, LLC, Bowling Green, Missouri

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

This park is clean, tidy and convenient to the expressway. Tent area was very flat and lush, but full sun. Almost all sites were in full sun. Bath house is locked, and you need to ask for the key. I did not care for this park. One staff member was polite, but terse. Lots were extremely narrow. About eight feet of grass between them. They are barely tolerant of animals with half a page of rules devoted to this Issue. My biggest concern was the cement posts at the ends of each site. It makes maneuvering larger rigs difficult. Almost all of them had marks where vehicles had scraped. BUT it sure keeps the grass safe from those of you intending to pop wheelies or peel out with your sports cars. We camped at Cozy C RV Campground, LLC in a Motorhome.

Quail Roost RV Campground, Crystal River, Florida

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

Quail Roost has a perfect balance of great amenities and a reasonable price. Staff are always available and cheerful (They live on site, so have a vested interest in having an excellent park), and go the extra mile if you have special requests. The pool, bathhouses, community room and rec room are always sparkly clean. The park has a lack of bugs, large sites on the 50 amp side and is quiet and friendly! We've made Quail Roost our "home" park. We camped at Quail Roost RV Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Up on the corner by the stoplight is a great local produce market. Also at that corner is a gas station with a wonderful woodfire pizza restaurant where you can bring in your own adult beverages. If you arrive and the office is closed (summer hours are short) just call the office number. Somebody always has the phone and will be right out to help you. Oh, and right across the street is an RV sales and service facility. We've had great luck with them (Nature Coast RV)

Ontonagon Township Park and Campground, Ontonagon, Michigan

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

I considered not even writing this review so I could hog this park all to myself. There are sites on Lake Superior large enough for my 40' rig, 14' trailer and car. We have a short walk through a low dune to the beach. We were able to pull the MH in front-first to maximize the view and minimize the wind on our awning. The manager and his staff are beyond helpful and pleasant. Bathrooms are super clean, and the shower water is hot. If you don't want to break camp and dump, they have a reasonably priced honey-wagon, as they have no sewer. But who cares? There is a lovely nature trail through surprisingly mature woods to walk the dog. And I could go on and on.

The only difficulty is they do not take reservations. Some lakeside sites are 9 day limits, some are sixteen. There are always some sites off the lake available through mid-day, and the equestrian park across the street always seems to have openings. So there is always SOME place to stay here. Once here, you can scout out opening sites and move if you so wish. The 16-day limit is for a particular site, not the park itself, so you can move around and extend your stay. It's worth this minimal hassle.

We are extending our stay here, and would go out of our way to return. We camped at Ontonagon Township Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

River Road RV Park , Ontonagon, Michigan

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $30.00

These folk were vague on the phone and pleasant but vague in person. The very minimum was done to maintain the park. Lawn was mowed, but areas around posts and rocks hadn't been trimmed all season. Downed branches from storms past were cleaned up, and piled in the middle of the tenting area, which now had a few seasons of weeds growing around them, and there were assorted abandoned vehicles and machinery at the far edges of the park. Some of the sites were too narrow for slide outs, although very long. It was hit or miss, basically, but park was not full, so there was choice. Electricity and water were fine. One permanent trailer was a bit sketchy looking. So basically, it was fine for a few days, but glad we were not staying longer. We camped at River Road RV Park in a Motorhome.

Rivers Bend Campground, Iron Mountain, Michigan

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

This park had some surprising positives. First, the managers (owners?) were unbelievable. Anything they could do to help and with a truly positive attitude. I saw the walk or bike or carry equipment past our site multiple times a day. The park was immaculate. The most pleasant surprise was a large park-like addendum with a pond, a bit of woods and more than enough space to run the dog without bothering anybody else.

Unfortunately, the riverfront was cheek by jowl with seasonal people and park models, and there was no access. We would return, and considered changing our plans to stay longer. We camped at Rivers Bend Campground in a Motorhome.

Iron Mountain was a lovely little city with a couple of good grocery stores, restaurants, and an unbelievable Italian Deli (Crispigna's). The Grocery store in Niagara, WI (Marcouiller's) has a great meat department and prices, although produce is truly sad. Park owners can give further information and recommendations.

OB Fuller Park and Campground, Escanaba, Michigan

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

This park has the strangest sites I've ever seen. Some are huge, and some are tiny. The folk that take reservations assign the sites, and did give us one that handled our 40' rig and 14' trailer, parallel to the road and the beach, so no problems. The water and electric were fine. Bathrooms were pretty clean, no hot water for showers in the evening for the women. Camp Host was friendly and helpful. The water in the bay area was a bit murky, probably due in part to the wind, but overall a nice park. We would stay there again, but not go out of our way to do so. We camped at OB Fuller Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Indian Creek Camp & Conference Center, Tecumseh, Michigan

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

This campground was a bit far off of the highway, but a simple drive to reach. Staff was friendly and helpful. We were initially a bit put off as it looks like a haphazard layout of sites, all grass and dirt. However, we were pleasantly surprised.

We had the campground to ourselves. There were hiking trails, gardens and open green space. Utilities worked well. Wi-fi was spectacular (probably because nobody else was using it). The site was level. They appear to have spectacular programming for kids and appear very active during peek months.

We enjoyed our overnight stay, slept well, and exercised the animals. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Indian Creek Camp & Conference Center in a Motorhome.

Winton Woods Campground, Cincinnati, Ohio

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

Approach from the North is an easier drive than from the South. Park was bucolic and clean. Pull through sites were concrete with large grass lawns. 30 amp sites were dirt and grass, and mostly shaded. All utilities worked as expected. Not a lot for kids, although the cabins looked charming. We would stay here again, although it was a little far off of the road and expensive for what we needed.
