Chain-O-Lakes State Park, Spring Grove, Illinois

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

There are not too many campgrounds available in the Chicago area. We tried Fish Lake once and it was terrible. This is our "go to" campground when we come to Chicago. Its clean and well maintained. Many hiking and biking trails are within the park. The signage on the trails needs to be replaced as the current ones are not readable. Lots of mosquitoes and deer flies. Bring bug repellent. Sites are large and relatively level. Sites are electric only. We camped at Chain-O-Lakes State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Indiana Dunes State Park, Chesterton, Indiana

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Large campground that was completely filled. Best to make reservations several weeks in advance. Sites are concrete pads and are level. Many sites are close together. Our site (#69) offered more space and a little more privacy. Many good walking trails. Bathhouses were clean and the park is well maintained. We camped at Indiana Dunes State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Patoka Lake State Park, Birdseye, Indiana

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

The majority of the campsites are in an open field with no shade. We arrived on a 94 degree day and it took several hours to cool the camper since our site was in the direct sun. Our original site was occupied requiring us to find another site. Majority sites are not very level. The sites on the outer edge of the campground do offer some shade. I would not stay here again. We camped at Patoka Lake State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Pickwick Landing State Park, Pickwick Dam, Tennessee

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

There are 45 non handicap sites of which I would say only 6 sites are level enough for a camper greater than 30 foot. All sites are paved but are in great need of repair. The sites are roomy and offer good privacy. The bathhouse is very clean. If you are in need of a level site, you are best to go to the TVA dam campground. We camped at Pickwick Landing State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The Catfish Hotel is an excellent place to eat. RB Barbaque is a good place for breakfast. Can't comment on the ribs as they were out. The pulled pork was excellent. Stay away from the Rib Cage. The food is terrible as is the service.

Bayou Segnette State Park, Westwego, Louisiana

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

This is my third stay in less than a year. Good place to set up as a base camp for exploring the surrounding area. My suggestion is to pick a site that has a wooden deck. Otherwise, I am in agreement with other reviews that are rated at very good or higher. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

The Woods RV Park and Campground LLC, Montgomery, Alabama

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

Convenient to the interstate and to a TA truck stop and other eateries. Did not use the bath house but did look inside. The showers and toilet were OK but not spic n span. WIFI and cable were good. The pull through site was gravel and relatively level. Good for a overnight stop. We camped at The Woods RV Park and Campground LLC in a Fifth Wheel.

Cades Cove Campground (NPS Campground), Townsend, Tennessee

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $9.00
Overall Rating:

This is my second visit within the last 5 years. Both times was during the winter months in camp area C. During my visit there were only 12 other campsites that were occupied. The campground is dry camping only and has no cell service. The only way to communicate with the outside world is by using the pay phones at the ranger station. There is only 1 dump station available which I believe would cause a real traffic jam during the summer months when both the B & C loops are open. If you enjoy hiking, fishing or biking this is the place to be. The bathroom was clean and heated but no hot water or shower is available. The scenic loop is nice and you actually see wild life (mostly deer). My site was large enough for my 33 foot fiver but was a challenge to back it in due to the narrow loop road. For larger units, good luck. We camped at Cades Cove Campground (NPS Campground) in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Great area for hiking. You can bike the scenic loop (approx. 9 miles in length) but you will be sharing a narrow road with lots of cars. A shorter and easier bike loop is Sparks Lane (approx. 3 miles in length). I believe they close the loop to car traffic in the AM on Saturdays.

Bayou Segnette State Park, Westwego, Louisiana

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

We arrived on a Sunday and only 1 ranger was on duty for checking people in for the day use areas as well as for boat dock and camping areas. I must say she was extremely good and handled the work loaded extremely well. Later in the stay we had the unfortunate experience of dealing a lady ranger that was surly and needed to be behind a desk out of sight. The sites were very spacious but the dump station was shut down. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Beware of the ants. Their bite hurts and leaves you itching. Their nests are located along the edge of the asphalt pad. Just outside the park is a fresh seafood market located a 1/4 mile to the east of the entrance.

Meridian East / Toomsuba KOA , Toomsuba, Mississippi

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

The pull thru site was level and more spacious than the majority of KOA's where I have stayed. The campground had more of a park setting due to the front and back of the site were bordered by large trees and open area. It is off the beaten path but I would stay here again. We camped at Meridian East / Toomsuba KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Twin Lakes RV Park, Cumming, Georgia

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

My site was a pull thru that was not level and was just long enough for my 33 foot 5th wheel. The sites are very close together. During the night, some idiot was using the campground roads as a drag strip. This campground is more of a mobile home park than a recreational park. If you are staying here, you are better off taking a site down by the lake. I will not stay here again. We camped at Twin Lakes RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Crooked River State Park, Saint Marys, Georgia

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

The park is well maintained and has several trails ranging in length from .5 to 1.5 miles. The park is situated close to Cumberland National Park, St Simon Island and Okefenokee which makes it ideal for a base. All sites are spacious and level. If you desire privacy, select the sites on the right. Cable TV is advertised but does not work which made me downgrade the overall rating. If they are not going to fix it, it should be listed. We camped at Crooked River State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is my third time staying at this campground in the last 4 years. I have always found the grounds and bathhouse to be very clean and well kept. The pull thru sites are long and level allowing me to remain hitched for my 1 night stay. We camped at Beaver Run RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Sawnee COE, Cumming, Georgia

Date of Stay: February, 2017 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

Sites 12 thru 25 are the most scenic and are the ones being reviewed. They are on a peninsula overlooking the lake. All sites have tall pines offering shade and sun. The parking pads are paved and level but narrow. They also have picnic tables that sit on a concrete pad and offer a fire ring as well as a BBQ grill. The only draw back to many of the sites is the ground drops off steeply from the parking pads making exit/entry to your camper difficult. We were in site #20 and to get to the first step of our camper was about 20 inches. If it were not for this I would have given the sites a rating of 10. We camped at Sawnee COE in a Fifth Wheel.
