Lake Aire RV Park & Campground, Hollywood, South Carolina

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

We typically like state parks and driving into Lake Aire RV Park gives you the feeling of rustic and "woodsy". The staff is friendly and welcoming. Our site was a pull-through on the end, which was very convenient for for our one night stay. The inside roads were wide enough, but a little tight for turns as residents parked on the road vs. their site. As other reviewers have stated, there are a number of fulltime residents. It rained very hard the night we were there and our site was pretty muddy with some standing water. Sites are fairly close together and I had to walk near the neighbor sewer hose hookup to avoid the water. Additional gravel for the sites may help. Overall, it was a convenient stay and we will stop again for future visits. We camped at Lake Aire RV Park & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Benton KOA, Benton, Illinois

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

We picked Benton KOA for an overnight stop because it offered cable and we wanted to watch the season opening game for our favorite college team while traveling. Not usually a fan of KOA's from previous experiences and still not although this campground was "OK". The facilities were all clean but the grounds looked like they could use some TLC. Our site was near the highway, so there was a lot of road noise. At least we had our AC running and drowned it out. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Convenient for overnight stay, but we thought it was a bit overpriced. We camped at Benton KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Deer Creek Valley RV Park, Topeka, Kansas

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We stopped at Deer Creek Valley RV Park for an overnight during travel from West to East. The staff is very friendly and helpful with recommendations and directions. As previous reviewers have stated, the park is clean, well-manicured and nice spacing on roads and between sites. This is a great stop for either an overnight or extended stay. They truly deserve the "top" review grades. We camped at Deer Creek Valley RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Willard Bay State Park, Cottonwood Campground, Willard, Utah

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

We typically enjoy state parks, so that was the reason for choosing Willard Bay for our 4 night stay in the area. This park does not give the state park system for Utah a very good impression. First, the positives... Nice beaches on the lake and the day use areas looked very nice. The roads are easy to navigate, and the sites are spacious, paved and level. Each campsite has a nice covered picnic table. We had a full hook-up site with 30 amp. Enough to run one AC. The campground appears "shoddy" as the grass/weeds are not trimmed. It is very close to the interstate, and as others mentioned there is a lot of highway noise. We were overrun with flies and knats and were constantly spraying the area and using citronella candles while outside. The bath house appeared extremely old and not well taken care of. When we arrived, we were given a card to put on our dash and told the rules were on the back. No campground map was issued, so we relied on the verbal directions given at check-in to find the proper campground. We might consider this campground as a one night stop if passing through the area, but would not recommend as a destination stop. We camped at Willard Bay State Park, Cottonwood Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Aspen Grove RV Park, Alpine, Wyoming

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

We selected Aspen Grove for the convenience to the Tetons even though it is a 40 mile drive. We wanted to stay out of the eclipse crowd in Jackson. At the time of our reservation, the price was $35.00 a night. Evidently since our stay was during the solar eclipse, the price was raised to $40.00 a night. Very overpriced for the site. We did have one of the "nicer" sites as it was a pull through and full hookups with 50 amp service, a bit of shade. The site was level and met our needs. The park has no bath house or wifi, and is "shaggy" looking with weeds growing between sites. Grounds need some TLC. There also appears to be some permanent residents. The manager was very helpful both on the phone and during our arrival. He requests a call with an anticipated ETA so he is sure to be at the park and meet you. Do not expect anything more than a parking site with hookups. The web site pictures are deceiving and do not represent the look of the park in anyway. We camped at Aspen Grove RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Rocky Mountain RV Park, Gardiner, Montana

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $53.00
Overall Rating:

Sites are gravel, close together with a small grassy area between each site. A picnic table is at each site and a community fire pit is located at the back of the park. Roads within the park are wide and gravel. Easy for maneuvering. Staff is friendly and escort you to your site. Our site was a pull-through with a shade tree. Nice laundry facility, but the most expensive washers I have ever used - $3.00 per use for washer and $2.00 for dryer. In reality, the dryer is more than $2.00 because you probably need to add an extra quarter or two for full dry, depending on the load. Cost us over $20.00 to do four loads. The site cost before the Good Sam discount was a daily rate of $59.00. Quite pricey, but you are paying for full hook-ups and easy access to Yellowstone at the North entrance. Easy walking distance to town for nice restaurants. We camped at Rocky Mountain RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Cody Wyoming Trout Ranch, Cody, Wyoming

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

The park is right off the highway, so there is some highway noise. As others have stated, the road is dirt and sites are dirt/gravel with gravel between each site, and fairly close together. The longer sites are pull-through. A nice plastic picnic table is provided, but if you use your grill, it must be set up on a different table so the picnic table does not melt.. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Nice laundry room with only 2 washers and dryers at $2.00 each. Get there early before the staff starts using for linens from the tipis. The fishing pond is small but does have a lot of fish. Grandson only had one bite in two days so I guess the fish just were not hungry. Overall, the park is nice but in our opinion pricey for what it offers. We camped at Cody Wyoming Trout Ranch in a Fifth Wheel.

Big Pine Campground, Custer, South Dakota

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

This was our second visit to the Black Hills and Big Pine Campground is now our favorite. As another review stated, the campground is built on a hill among tall pine trees. We had reservations but made better travel time than expected with an earlier arrival. We called the day before arrival to inquire availability for an additional night. The owners were most accommodating with putting us in the only available site for one night and moving us the next day to our reserved site. They were apologetic for the move, but we certainly understood the situation and were happy to arrive a day early. The owner escorts you to your site and assists in backing in among the trees. We have a 35 foot 5th wheel and had no issues... even with our move to the second site without the escort. Sites include a picnic table and fire ring and the campground is convenient to all the sites in the Black Hills. Bath house is spotless and the laundry room with four washers and dryers is clean and large. One of the nicest laundry's I have used. Firewood is available for purchase and is delivered to your site. We loved the campground with the "luxury" of full hookups and laundry on site and the rustic feel of a state park. We would definitely visit again. We camped at Big Pine Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Country Gardens RV Park, Odessa, Missouri

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

Country Gardens was an overnight stop while traveling West. I called midday to inquire about availability for the night and left a message. Received a return call within 30 minutes. Fortunately, there was site availability and I was told that the best site they could accommodate was a site up front next to the store. The area recently had flash floods and were expecting another 4 inches of rain that night. It was explained there would be no threat of flooding and as well as at our site. Because we were in the front with lots of interstate noise, the site was discounted for the location. Nice folks, nice store/office with lots of Missouri cheese selections. We used the laundry facilities while visiting and they were fine, although one dryer had broken glass on the door. Would stay here again. We camped at Country Gardens RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Dumplin Valley RV, Kodak, Tennessee

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We stopped at Dumplin Valley RV for overnight during travel. As others have stated, easy on/off and easy to find off interstate. It really is a farm where they have installed hook-ups to accommodate hosting the September music festival. It was quiet and relaxing after a long drive. No picnic tables or fire pits... just a simple site. One interior road and you drive on grass to pull into your site. We enjoyed the pretty scenery and the quiet. Would definitely stay here again. Arrowhead Lake Campground, Johnston City, Illinois

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

We stopped at the campground as an overnight stay during travel. Not too far off the interstate with easy drive through the small town. The staff is extremely friendly. We were assigned an easy pull-through site with water and electric. While we were setting up, a staff member stopped by to inquire if all was well. During a walk through the park, we discovered a group of fellows were playing music on the porch of the store. They were great and we enjoyed being part of their audience. Our site overlooked a meadow and we spotted deer in the morning as we were packing up. The dump station is easy access near the exit. There are some long term residents and there sites are kept nice and neat as well as the park. The only negative was the bath house was dirty and the showers moldy. Overall, we enjoyed our short stay, and would definitely stay here again. We camped at Arrowhead Lake Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tower Campground, Sioux Falls, South Dakota

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

We picked Tower Campground as a one night stay during a pass through travel to Black Hills. The only positives I can say is the office staff was very polite both on the phone and check-in. The location provides a convenient off interstate, easy in and out. Our site was a tight site in the west campground between two units that looked like they were permanent residence. We were concerned that our three slide-outs would invade their "space." We apologized to one neighbor explaining that we would only be there one night. His response was: "We are used to it."

The sites and road are dirt. As another stated, for the cable tv you must have a remote from the office. A return box is provided for leaving in the AM when the office is closed. The bathhouse nearest our site was old, dirty, and creepy. It was quite a hike to use the nicer and cleaner bath house in the other campground.

Overall, the $40.00 rate is a rip-off for the site we had, and we would not stay here again. The other section of campground is a bit nicer, but ours was the pits. We camped at Tower Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Blythe Island Regional Park Campground, Brunswick, Georgia

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

The park has both back-in and pull-through sites that are spacious with palms/bushes between sites and convenient to I-95, Brunswick, and Saint Simon's and Jekyll Islands. The sites are sand/dirt with a cement patio, picnic table, and fire pit. One of the first campgrounds we have been to in a long time that the picnic table was not beat up. Staff is friendly and accommodating. Our fire pit looked like someone had tried to pull it out of the ground and was unusable. When we reported it to the office, the very next morning two fellows arrived and fixed the fire ring. There is a nice lake, small beach, and laundry with three washers and dryers. The park itself is very nice, however we had to clean up our site upon arrival from a large number of cigarette butts and some trash items. We were disappointed that to fish in the lake, there is a $5.00 permit fee per person plus a $5.00 deposit each for the permit. Additionally, if you want to use your own kayak there is another $5.00 fee. For hubby and I to fish out of our own kayak for one day, we would have to pay $25.00 with $10.00 refundable. That just seems ridiculous. There are a number of RVs that are parked in sites either for the summer or permanently and used on weekends. We arrived on a Sunday and left on a weekday. There were many sites where RVs were parked, but no one was there. We camped at Blythe Island Regional Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Long Point Park Campground (Brevard County Park), Melbourne Beach, Florida

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

We had a back-in waterfront site that was long enough for our rig, but ended up not being very wide. The electric and water hookups are "shared" between two sites and since we were on the right of the hookups we had to park close enough for our electric and water hose to fit under our rig to the hookups. As a result, this did not allow for as much room as we would have liked for our patio area. Our site was next to a large, beautiful tree which provided welcome shade. The root system from the tree was raised out of the ground and made it bothersome walking and for placing our patio. The sites are sand and our site was not level at all. There was a nice opening between the mangroves for us to put our kayak in the water. Bring bug spray... the minute you walk near the mangrove trees you will get attacked by mosquitoes. Overall we enjoyed our stay with the water for fishing and kayaking and beach access. One odd experience during our stay... we went out to dinner one night, and upon our return our fire ring was gone. Our next door neighbor had a fire going, so we asked if they took our ring. They said they did. They left the next morning and never bothered to return the ring. We thought this was a bit rude. We were told by another camper that this park used to be a state park and since the county took it over it is not kept up quite as well. We would stay here again, however we would be sure our site would be on the left side of the hookup station. We camped at Long Point Park Campground (Brevard County Park) in a Fifth Wheel.

Carver's Cove, Cape Canaveral, Florida

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

First the pros: very nice dock on the Banana River for fishing or sitting; location is convenient to restaurants, Cocoa Beach, Cape Canaveral; friendly and accommodating hosts; nice laundry at $1.75 each for use. Cons: most of the sites are occupied by long-term/permanent rv's; dirt road that is occasionally grated but has a lot of pot holes; park is older, not really kept up well and looks old. In our opinion, very over-priced and you are paying for the location. Would not stay here again. We camped at Carver's Cove in a Fifth Wheel.
