Campfire Lodgings, Asheville, North Carolina

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

What a nice little park. Premium sites with Blue Ridge in back window hard to come by so we settled for a "Deluxe" site with restricted view. But the common area was a great place to drink coffee and enjoy the best view I've ever had in a campground. WiFi good and they are working on improving it. Didn't use cable but it was available. Showers great and bathhouse very clean. Owners are visible and responsive. Only downside is curvy steep half-mile entrance, but that's the price you pay for being on top of the knob; wasn't as bad as I expected. Very easy to get to Asheville, Parkway and other attractions. We camped at Campfire Lodgings in a Travel Trailer.

Charlotte Motor Speedway Campground, Concord, North Carolina

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Basically a parking lot for the three racetracks nearby, which would not have been available had there been an event. Bathhouse a good distance away and not terribly clean. Service was ok but seems campground is an afterthought to everything else. This is adjacent to a Camping World store and service center, and relatively convenient to the interstate north of Charlotte. Sites fairly level with some slope.. We camped at Charlotte Motor Speedway Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Magnolia RV Park and Campground, Kinards, South Carolina

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

Pretty shaded campground just off interstate. Bathrooms were new and spotless. Service great and spaces plenty big. We didn't swim but pool looked very nice. Gravel sites and red clay roads. Could be an issue when wet but the owners had recently graded them, so no problem. We just spent one night en route to NC but would recommend highly. We camped at Magnolia RV Park and Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Spartanburg NE / Gaffney KOA, Gaffney, South Carolina

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

Typical consistent KOA. Owners nice and helpful and park clean. Ordered pizza one night. Not the best but definitely convenient! However, main complaint was RV sites that weren't very level. We don't usually mind adjusting but the crown was very narrow and drop off pretty steep at end of pull-through. We unhitched and hitched OK but it was steeper than typical. We camped at Spartanburg NE / Gaffney KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

If heading north on 85, follow other reviewers' suggestion and turn right onto access road. It's longer but much better than sharp turn if you go left.

Prude Ranch, Fort Davis, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2016 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

The state park nearby was full, so when I saw Prude Ranch listed on this site, we decided to try it since we had previous experience here in regular cabins. This is NOT a full-service park, although they had full hookups. The facilities, like hookups, showers and bathrooms, are somewhat dated, and the sewer hookups weren't working when we were here. The sites are next to a rodeo arena in a grassy field. But the service was good and the surroundings beautiful. It was just what we needed for our two-night stay. We camped at Prude Ranch in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

There are lots of things to see just up the road: the town of Fort Davis, a National Monument fort, an observatory and a gorgeous state park are just a few miles up the road, and there are several scenic drives you can take. Depending on the time of year, Prude Ranch offers horseback rides and dinner or breakfast, and a pool.

Cotton Lane RV & Golf Resort (55+ park), Goodyear, Arizona

Date of Stay: March, 2016 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

I will give this park good ratings after a six-night stay here while attending Phoenix west area spring training games, with some caveats. First, we don't have pets and weren't here to participate in the social activities - of which there are many - so we don't know about the rules for potlucks, whether the dog park near us is adequate, or have complaint about the absence of pickle-ball courts. We have stayed in a similar 55+ park before so knew to expect few showers (most residents have their own) and narrow pull-throughs. I agree with another reviewer that this IS a huge parking lot, which is what you will find here in Phoenix in the desert. However, this one is very convenient to I-10 and the other highways to ballparks and the city, and it worked great for us. Our site was level, all facilities were nice and clean, and everyone was friendly. Oh, and through our 5 years of RV travel, I've learned to never expect good WiFi, and we are pleasantly surprised the rare times that it actually works. We enjoyed our week here. We camped at Cotton Lane RV & Golf Resort (55+ park) in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

If you stay in the pull-through section, pull forward past the tree so it doesn't get in the way of your slide-outs or awning.
